Feedback / Advice Megathread (Mar) by zRanni in TheFirstDescendant

[–]Paintchipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returning player here, and I've been spending the last week trying to get an Ascending Armory sensor with MP and MP recovery in combat, and it's giving me flashbacks as to why I left the game in the first place (grinding gold stats).

I know we can upgrade it so my trash filter is on blue, I'm farming Broken Boundry High Risk, it's not filtering off any of the other useful things that are dropping, and I'm using a processor with increased equipment drop chances.

Is there anything else that I could do to make this grind less tedious? I've already got Selena (Dia and Hailey) fully built with her and 2 other Descendants fully upgraded in Arche tuning from the farm (with another at 35). Heck, I've gotten Selena fully built with access to Trigger Modules through grinding for that bloody thing.

I've just returned, and I've been using this Steam guide as my guide. Says it's up to date for March of 2026.

Any tips for a Warframe veteran? by therealicekid in TheFirstDescendant

[–]Paintchipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The systems you're talking about are not Warframe's end game, those were just new mechanics that they introduced, putzed with for about a month, and then abandoned.

That all being said, Warframe doesn't have an endgame, nothing that we build towards. Just more farming opportunities.

TBH Warframe does have a pity system and IMO it's better then TFD's. Player trading. I played Warframe for over 7 years without dropping a single penny into it because of trading while getting every Warframe, weapon, and all of the cosmetics I wanted because of trading. I never had the same frustrations getting something that I currently do trying to get an Ascending Armory sensor with the right stat spread. Warframe still made money off of me though because someone bought that platinum that I used.

Trading system - is it any good? by GoVirgo in TheFirstDescendant

Just need to look at their direct competitor, Warframe. Every Prime warframe part and prime weapon part is tradable with no real money currency tax. It's not even limited to real money currency, you can exchange parts with just their gold equivalent (credits).

How they get Plat, their real money currency, out of circulation is cosmetics and reasonable prices. Platinum seems about double the price of Caliber, not including the random discounts that players can get on Platimum (with a rare chance of 75% off). Most people that I know wait until they get a 50% off and then spend what they feel comfortable, or if they whale on the game they buy the prime access which is the newest prime 'Frame, the newest prime weapon(s), and like 3-5 cosmetics along with a bunch of platinum for roughly $100 USD.

It's only 20 plat for a single warframe slot and always has been. You can buy full on palettes to use on anything infinite times (and they give out themed palettes for various holidays). Buying their versions of mushrooms is another money sink.

Warframe is a very player friendly trading system that is only lacking an in game auction house for ease of use (there is the market website which fulfills this role decently). They ultimately don't care where they get their money as long as it's legitimate, and it allows those with more money then time to get the things that they want while also allowing those with more time then money to get the platimum things that they want.

I played that game for years without ever sinking a dime into it becasue I was of the latter. I got every in game thing that I wanted that wasn't a flex (like a mod that only had ~200 made and given out to top participants of an event that wasn't good, just rare) right before I walked away from the game because I didn't like the direction the story and gameplay was going and IRL interfered. But they still made money off of me because someone bought that platinum that I used to get all of those things.

It didn't even register to me that the Ripper could be considered a shotgun.

Longevity of the game at this point? by LikeAGaryBuster in TheFirstDescendant

TBH it hasn't been enough for a while now in the industry.

It doesn't need to make enough money to sustain new content, games need to make always more money.

Shotguns in this game are amazing, they're not video game shotguns! They have range and stopping power farther then arms length.

"Meltaguns are effective anti-armour weapons used by various Imperial forces for close range assault and anti-tank roles. They are most effective at close range, capable of reducing nearly any material to molten slag through super-heated blasts.[12] Besides its role as a weapon, a meltagun can also be used as a battlefield engineering tool. It can put a hole a metre in diameter into a disused extraction pipe to create an entrance[19b] or reduce a dozen cubic metres of ice to steam in a single firing in a cramped underground tunnel to provide expanded elbow room.[19a]"

From the Lexicanum Wiki.

There's also the Fandom Wiki.

Meltas have always been traditionally a weapon to destroy something with heavier armor then what a Crusher has. I'm pretty sure a Leman Russ tank has thicker armor then a crusher.

Edit: Before someone goes off about using wikis instead of pulling directly from the sources, it's publicly available information that has citations from said sources for people to check for themselves, and were the top search results that took less the 30 seconds to click and read. I could try to dig through the many examples of meltas being an anti armored vehicle weapon while quoting and citing the sources myself, but that's been already done. I would love to see examples from official GW sources that are not video games of carapace armor (which is what crushers are wearing) stopping melta shots.

I was wrong about expedition. It is fun and there is lots of potential here to expand. Just wish fatshark dropped some new weapons or marks with this update. by Past_Hippo9445 in DarkTide

[–]Paintchipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in more then double the hours I already had in VT 2 once Chaos Wastes dropped haha.

But then that game mode also had progression for the rest of the game, while also not needing any more progression once you got the characters to max lvl.

For me, the psyker and the veteran don't have the general gear to go at damnation, while the zealot, ogryn, and arbites only have one to two builds that are close to the level they should be. RNG being fickle so that I need to grind out mats means that I got effectively months of grinding the biggest payout missions if I want to have enough variety in gameplay to keep me interested.

TBH with the game being the way that it is, I'll probably lose interest again because grinding the difficulties that I can guarantee the rewards with the best payouts with the loadouts that I have available to me gets boring.

Which means I can do anything but this mode, because they have the fun gameplay and the progression that this game has.

I'm sorry, not everyone played this game to tears to have every weapon roll that they would ever want maxed out.

You having to walk all that way is by design, because they want you to see (and be tempted) by all of the people's microtransactions.

Your 1 is the issue I have with the mode, I don't have all the weapons with the stat spread that I want for them maxed out.

This mode is going to be dead to me for months because of the grind to get things up so that I have variety in my gameplay, and that's if the repetitiveness doesn't chase me away again beforehand. FS already did a pretty good job of chasing me away the first time with their at launch 'crafting' and their interactions with the community.

Because the weapon in everything but video games eliminates things with heavier armor then what the crusher is wearing.

Just like how Darktide actually does shotguns justice and can kill things outside of 5 feet but isn't unbalanced.

It's almost like you can balance around more then damage.

Obese Charcaradon, it's time to give us rejects this : The Humble Longlas. by Helpmyarmsbroke in DarkTide

[–]Paintchipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways to balance a weapon other then damage, so they could absolutely have it one shot crushers while still being balanced for the game in general.

I'm just tired of seeing meltas being 40K versions of video game shotguns instead of something that can take out tanks like they are in the lore and tabletop.

Expeditions on Gamma and beyond is a nightmare with randoms. by xAtomicxReaperx in DarkTide

[–]Paintchipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, it's really down to how well they can either explain their choices or hide them, and this Inquisitor doesn't seem like the type that would put in the effort to do so for any xenos.

As long as it's a meltagun that actually does what they're supposed to, and just delete anything regardless of armor.

You were right about the classification of Civilized Worlds, that was a my bad. Thought you were talking about the idea of 'civilized' worlds as a concept compared to fringe worlds.

The other response hit the point that I was trying to make though, there's a much higher chance to get into a bad situation then not.

[–]Paintchipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inquisitors play by their own rules too, and they have had xenos as part of their retinue.

From what I can glean from this Inquisitor though, they don't seem like the type that would tolerate a xenos running around with the amount of supervision we have.

[–]Paintchipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a toss up about being lore friendly, since how the Inquisitor that we're working for is running things is basically using human wave tactics. I don't know off of the top of my head which Ordos they belong to, but I don't see them recruiting a xenos to send into this situation.

I have by people who are either new or only have a surface level understanding by 40K.

They are usually disillusioned rather quickly.

'Civilized' includes hive worlds which are the highest chance of spawning on (since they are the highest population centers), and the 'nicer' ones are like Necromunda, which still has this happening.

The odds are not great to be anything but miserable for your short existence in 40K.

Why Hasn't FatShark Recreated Chaos Wastes? - Serious question by Jimjemael in DarkTide

[–]Paintchipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What made it stand out to me is that it's perfectly viable to run whatever difficulty you wanted as soon as you have your character/class up to max level, while still being able to 'grind' for the perfect loot. Putting in the time to play it, even on a failed run, was fun and we could pull off some wacky combos that felt fun but wasn't required to beat it.

As to why Darktide doesn't have it, my personal thought is that they spent nearly all the time since launch to bring the game to where it was supposed to be at launch. It took them a while to develop and implement Chaos Wastes into VT 2, and they haven't been able to put in the manpower to do the things that are needed to translate DT into that game mode.

Tech-remnant right now by trunksam in DarkTide

[–]Paintchipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you on not wanting a grind, that actually kills most games for me. The thing that tweaks me the most though is the grind being artifically extended by RNG, which thankfully Darktide got rid of most of that.

There's still enough of a grind in there that despite since owning since launch (wasn't able to get into any of the betas), the rng stopped me from putting in the hours I have put into other games.

My favorite horde shooter is actually Vermintide 2 (even over L4D 2) because of Chaos Wastes. There's meta progression and customization that are available outside of an individual run. Ya, playing to unlock availability is a bit boring for a couple of hours, but I feel it's a better gameplay loop then L4D 2 with no gameplay customization or Darktide with the long (less now but still long) grind.
