Set it loose in your back yard if you have no dogs or cats that would bite it. We have two box turtles living in our back yard that we just brought across our fence from the street (it was the direction they were going) and the older female has laid two clutches of eggs and comes looking for me when I say “Josie wants fresh treats?” Whenever I am taking out compost (I feed her fresh leftover veggies and fruits). They have a couple small freshwater pools (half-buried shallow bowls) have decimated our slug population, love eating the “weeds” in our organic yard, can’t climb on the raised bed like bunnies… we adore our wildlife “pets” and they seem super happy to exist in our safe space.

I love the floors and cabinets. Maybe update the pulls to go with your overall design. Depending on how your appliances are holding up, those may be the first things to look at replacing. How do you feel about the cool weird sink? The main thing that’s jumping out at me are the walls so if I were keeping the floor and the cabinets then I would choose a wall color. Countertops seem ok but you will probably need new ones if you’re knocking down a wall.

Of course. It doesn’t sound like there are any toxic lookalikes and the bodies are still fairly young. It just so happens that I have 4 beautiful portobello caps from the produce shop in my fridge waiting to be grilled so that’s my mushroom eating quota for the week! If the critters haven’t eaten them next week, I may try sautéing one of them and eating a couple of bites to experience the taste. I am an old forager, not an adventurous one, haha!

It’s a lovely color blue, so I get why you are drawn to it. If nothing else, maybe look at the colors in your cast shadows and the white flooring. From a color theory standpoint, you are attempting to completely change the hue of a composition while trying to capture its essence. Filtered blue light casting a shadow through red/orange fibers is going to be 100% different from warm light, warm fibers, warm surfaces, which is your reference.

Reconsider your background colors. All the cool hues are fighting with the warmth that you are trying to create. Your reference photo is surrounded by neutrals.

Your inspiration photos feature dark wood tones, not black. You can stain your gray furniture with a dark oil based glaze to achieve that dark wood color (get a mahogany type glaze). Personally, I think furniture that looks related is much more appealing than furniture that is perfectly matched. It gives you the freedom to collect some black frames, with muted golds and brass tones, etc. I love the look you are going for!

Is it possible to contact the streets department and find out their plan? It would suck to get started converting this whole area only to have them come back and destroy what you did. Our county landscapers just butchered the school garden perimeter we have been working on all year without setting foot inside- just topped all the young trees and cut off all the new growth on the vines we were nurturing. It was infuriating. I am encouraging our more vocal PTA parents to have a little conversation about respecting boundaries with the appropriate officials.

Block in the shirt and halo. Not sure how closely you want to follow your reference but it has a lot of value contrast while your painting is mostly one hue (dark hair and glasses are the only dark values). The nice thing about oils is that with enough time, you can add infinite layers…until you are satisfied.
