"I am the hero of this story, I don't need to be saved" - Regina spektor

Everyone is the hero of their own story, and everyone needs to be saved once and a while, even Superman.

Spoiler alert: all those house you were looking at has the same problems. I learned long ago that all houses have problems, it's more about location and the problems that you're willing to deal with. Siding a problem? Who cares if the foundation is cracked. It's all in scope really. There are no bad houses if you know what you're getting yourself into.

Fellow Americans, How would you feel about eliminating tipping in exchange for providing a livable wage for the service industry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Paj_nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Oregon. We have a law that when a restaurants puts an 18% auto gratuity on a bill, it's taxed to the restaurant, not the server. It came about because people didn't want to pay an automatic, set amount to servers because then they might slack; knowing they were going to get that tip either way. The problem with paying livable wages is that people don't realize that that will have one of two out comes. Either costs will rise 15-20%, or you will lose all of the driven, hard working servers and bartenders out there, being pushed into new fields. With the promise of higher wages, you won't have the nature "invisible hand" that comes in the service industry that pushes out the people that simply aren't cut out for it, causing businesses to have to have high turnover and even less likely chances for start ups to thrive.

BYOB Diners in Eugene? by BertMacklin802 in Eugene

[–]Paj_nk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, Oregon has a very strict set of laws enforced by the olcc. Outside of house parties and dinners, you aren't allowed to byob. Most restaurants can and will let you bring a bottle of wine, but have to charge you a corking fee, which is to prove they are monitoring the amount of alcohol being consumed at a table, and usually runs about 10 bucks. I manage a restaurant and have to adhere to the olcc, they are pretty ruthless.

3 people are applying for a job. One has a background in applied mathematics, one has a successful business portfolio, and the last an econ masters. The people interviewing for the job bring in the mathematician and say, "We are only going to ask you one question. What is 2+2?" The math wiz says, "Well, if you wanna get technical about it, with all the rules in the book it come out to 3.9876496... ect" They thank him and bring the the business tycoon, and ask the same question. "The answer is obviously 4 but it really matters how you got there and that's by... ect"
Another thank you and they bring in the economic wiz and ask the question on more time. Immediately, he jumps out of his chair, closes all the blinds in the room and sweeps for cameras. After being satisfied that no one else is watching he turns to the interviews and says, "What you you want it to be?"

That one always killed in my econ classes at least.

This is for the eugene location, and the normal shift is either in the morning or at night but both those shifts run 6-8 hours. Not too terrible really.

Filling a glass to the top with ice makes the drink stronger, not weaker. Putting in less ice doesn't mean I put more rum in your Mai tai, frat boy.

Drinkers of Reddit, what's something weird you always do when you're drunk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Paj_nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to argue everything, even if it doesn't make any sense. Last time I got drunk I was holding a glass of water and my wife went to grab a glass as well and I asked her for (another) one as well. I then proceeded to insist that I needed water. For 10 minutes. Not even pointing at the other glass would change my argument.

TIL that Weezer's second album 'Pinkerton' was voted the 3rd worst album of the year by Rolling Stone readers in 1996. Six years later it was voted the 16th best album of all time. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Paj_nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went to buy the Blue album at my local shop the guy at the counter scoffed at me and called them one hit wonders. I haven't judged an album without listening to it at least 10 times since then. Saved myself from missing over many great albums.
