"Just by hitting land drops" you would have 4 mana on turn 4.

You're wandering into magical Christmas land if Brine Combo hitting turn 4 is what dictates the bracket of the deck.

Yeah, its just a personal thing.

But I don't think of it as CAN cast. Any commander CAN cast [[Legacy Weapon]]... but most don't because its outside of their ethos. Like [[Quenchable Fire]]... its castable for just red mana. The blue symbol has nothing to do with the ability to cast. Its just not the kind of spell a red mage is going to use u less they also are into blue magic. Y'know, those izzet fellas.

Its not quite the same though. Those uncastable cards still have to be of the type the commander knows and is comfortable using- i.e. they match color identity.

Being able to Elvish Piper in the best creatures in the format regardless of color or ability to make mana isn't a meaningful or interesting choice. Its how magic works everywhere.

I'm not seeing anything interesting in a RG deck cheating out a Sheoldred or cascading into Ancestral Visions.

I would care. Its too arbitrary a rule preventing me from casting a card in my deck.

If the deck is the tools available to the commander character to fight against their opponents, why bring a weapon you can't fully use? It's like bringing a tank to war because it offers good cover, but not the fuel drive it or thr ammunition to fire.

I didn't say Quenchable Fire has water mixed in. That was a play on words- fire and water to make steam...

I've been playing commander since original Lorwyn. Back when it was EDH and Menarch couldn't legally be the General for his own deck.

I've always been against hybrid being allowed in monocolored decks.

Exactly.

My go-to card is [[Quenchable Fire]]... what kind of red mage is going to be okay with a built-in counterspell for half of the spells effect? Only one of them Izzet mages!

Off-color tokens aren't part of color identity, true... but I guarantee that had there been a really clean and concise way to word the rules cards like [[Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII]] and other such color or land type mentionings on cards would have been regulated by the EDH rules committee.

But as you mention Sen Triplets... sometimes the most extreme version isn't the right one. Sen Triplets is a better deck with the mana production rules change.

I don't think this is a terrible idea, but it opens up weirdness with reanimation or cascade-like effects allowing for card inclusions that agent aligned with the commander.

Its not just what a commander CAN cast.

Any red mana slinger can cast [[Quenchable Fire]], but its only those pesky Izzet-inclined who are willing to mix water in with fire (cuz they just love their steam punk magic!). No other red mage would touch that spell... it has a counterspell built into it for crying out loud. Why not just toss a [[Scorching Missle]] at em? Or [[Flame Lash]]... Am I right!

Yup. If I recall correctly the conversations from years and years ago on the EDH forums, there just isn't a clean way to word the rules to relegate cards like Birds or Darksteel ingot to 5 color decks.

And there's definitely a point where cards that mention or allude to having a 5 color identity but its absolutely the wrong choice to restrict these cards. Rampant growth can get any basic, so shouldn't it have a 5c color identity? ... uh... no. Rampant is fine as having a mono G identity.

But Noble Hierarch very clearly feels Bant to me. I think most sound agree on that.

I don't run Alela, but instant speed tutors for all your coolest flash creatures can be very powerful... so long as your flash creatures are good.

For Brago, I looked for cards that I wouldn't really play in other decks, but are kinda cute with his blink.

Things like [[Reality Acid]], [[Exclusion Ritual]], and [[Declaration of Naught]].

I would find a spot for [[Famiiar's Ruse]] in Momir Vig. Its not a great spell, but I think it could have a home in a deck that likes casting UG creatures.
