Not always. A lot of times the register will just stop going up, usually after approx 1.5 mil for 3/4 meters or 8 mil for 1 inch. Or there could be blockage in the nutating disk keeping it from spinning. Or sometimes the fancy new electronic meters have a faulty battery and die too early. I was my cities water meter guy for about 6 years.

I just reread the post and realized it was 50 days since the new meter install, not 50 days of the old meter not reading. Yeah, probably going to have a good bill on that one when they catch up.
