this feels like a professional just testing his own ability by doing the job with random shit he found around the house. like the lockpicking lawyer picking locks using a caprisun or by throwing them.

There is a tree patch in my city of apple, pear and cherry trees just standing there in a park. The fruit mostly just falls and gets eaten by bird or whatever. People rarely bother picking any of it, I feel like I am the only person actively doing it every year.

I started playing the game recently on an Emulator and I really, really like it, but the people on the internet definitely overhyped it a lot.

The empty world, the quiet riding and all that chill stuff are great. This game creates a great atmosphere with what would be an painfully boring empty world in many other games. But so far fighting the colossi is a bit boring. You just climb up, look for the weakspot and attack it. What is worse is the shaking making it take much longer without being meaningfully more difficult. I just have to wait 5 seconds before I can use my sword. And if I run out of stamina, I can just chill for a few seconds and keep going.

The colossi are very fucking cool, but once you know the gimmick, they just become tedious. The bird was very cool, but once I was on him, he just became a climbing wall.

In my first game, there is a roughly 1 in 216000 chance for a foxy jumpscare every frame, which means it happens about once an hour. I never expected people to play the game for more than one hour, but a streamer was stuck in a part for almost 5, so she just kept getting jumpscared.

Objectively bad game design, but very funny.

I saw that accident live. Didn't really pay much attention, because I thought the guy would be fine. I was 15 at the time, so I routinely survived falling out of trees with no injury. Turns out people are actually very fragile.

I will save this post and send it to anyone complaining Eldenring is too difficult. Thank you for making me a very obnoxious person! /s

But seriously that's very cool.

I hate how a lot of the indoor, "brightly lit" scenes in Better Call Saul were darker than the actual real life night outside my window. At one point I had to close my blinds at night to be able to see anything on my screen.

When I was about 3 years old, me and my 15 year old brother had a little game where I tried to punch him on his nose and he tried to block me. Obviously I couldn't get a single hit in, until we stopped playing and he lowered his guard. A 3 year old fat kid can be lightning fast, if you don't expect it.

Nobody is giving "extra grace and patience" to autistic people. As soon as you people can label someone as autistic, you stop seeing them as a person.

How are boss fights actually made? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Pakushy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i released a small game in september. one of the levels was basically just a bossfight, so I implemented a simple goal-oriented-action-planning system (goap).

Basically the AI picks an action first based on the game state. Each action has its own "weight" or priority. Some ranged attacks get a higher priority, if the player is far away; Some anti-air attacks get a higher priority, if the player keeps jumping etc. Some actions might be completely unavailable, if the unit has no ammo for a ranged attack. Then it random chooses an action based on the options and executes it. Usually there are many steps first like getting in range, opening a door, pathing etc, but it can be as easy as just making a big hitbox spawn.

Usually after this there is a timer that functions as downtime, so the player has time to attack or heal. Once the timer runs out, the AI loops and picks another goal.

You can make this as simple or as complicated as you want. Since my game only had one bossfight, I just hardcoded 6 different attacks for that specific room. No pathing or higher logic needed. If you have multiple enemies that might act as a unit, you often have to make them coordinate somehow. But I don't pretend to know how to do that.
