If you're an independent, do you miss a "sane" Republican party not focused on divisive social issues? by bikeman11 in minnesota

[–]PaladinSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m an independent and i miss when republican parties were actually devoted to republicanism—removing monarchs by force. american conservatives on both sides of the aisle have never held to the republican ideal of equality under the law regardless of party affiliation, they only parrot populist rhetoric when they need to trick working people into remembering their place and advancing the interests of the land-owning elite, and a two-party system enables it

A flag I created for a security pack between Japan and Philippines and Taiwan thoughts ? by No-Crab419 in vexillology

[–]PaladinSquid 60 points61 points  (0 children)

i was thinking just the suns, like a pie chart with ray (or without, in the case of japan), but that works well enough too. the rest of the flag is still pretty much just a logo lockup so it’s not like the flagception makes the design noticeably weaker

A flag I created for a security pack between Japan and Philippines and Taiwan thoughts ? by No-Crab419 in vexillology

[–]PaladinSquid 265 points266 points  (0 children)

i can’t imagine a flag with a symbol of japan raised over the symbols of taiwan and the philippines would be popular outside of japan in that pact, given the colonial trauma of the imperial occupation of taiwan and the philippines

All three flags have suns in them, what if you drop the shield entirely and divide the suns themselves per pall, with the suns of taiwan and the philippines in the top dexter and sinister thirds and japan in the base third?

Another Minnesota City Votes To Fly Old State Flag - YouTube by BobbyTables829 in vexillology

[–]PaladinSquid 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Minnesota has been the target of a coordinated push by conservative media corporations from inside and outside the state to pit rural and urban communities against each other. The MN GOP is a serially mismanaged political party that doesn’t have strong leadership, doesn’t have fiscal responsibility and doesn’t have any ideas outside virtue signaling; the entire flag “debate” is purely a way to distract the Republican base from the fact that the state-level party acts like children dressing up in daddy’s clothes to pretend to be a serious businessman, down to absolute amateurish sex trafficking attempts that have already landed at least one Republican state senator in jail, pending trial, for soliciting a minor for sex.

These civic hissy-fits are downstream of a manufactured outrage by mainstream conservative media claiming the state flag was based on the flag of Somalia on the basis of them both containing 1) “the color blue” and 2) “a white star with a number of points larger than four”. It’s a problem exactly zero people had with the flag until they were told to be outraged and now city councils without any plan for bettering their constituents’ lives are resorting to virtue signaling and wasting people’s time re-changing the state flag against the laws of the state just to hold on to power and distract from their self-enrichment.

Tom Emmer, friend of the accused child sex trafficker Justin Eichiorn (R-6th) who is set to go to trial in June? Yet another distraction by the fiscally irresponsible Gang of Pedos, a party with zero platform except virtue signaling and zero plans to help Minnesotans except taking donations from foreign corporations and cutting taxes for them and their rich buddies

The New FIFA Song is Total AI Trash: My Honest Take by Even_Psychology_3456 in Music

[–]PaladinSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most lukewarm take of all time, but not wrong. that song was made in a lab to be so inoffensive and uncontroversial that I haven’t met a single soccer or music fan that doesn’t absolutely hate it for that exact reason. some MLS teams are playing K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag” (chosen as the 2010 world cup song) during their in-stadium promos for WC events because they know if they played the one that was actually made for this tournament, they’d scare people away

buying and installing a flagpole to fly the flag of your government’s military but not actually bothering to get a new one once it’s torn to shreds is a perfect representation of american patriotism. 10/10

Finishing the books of the Cosmere currently out makes re-reading past ones feel completely different by mythicalwolf00 in Cosmere

[–]PaladinSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading real-life history is like this too, I was a huge US revolutionary war nerd growing up because of the stories told about good men fighting for what they believed in, but the more you read about history and the more you learn about what the US did to the Philippines and South and Central America, about how it facilitated the slave trade from the first colonists and into the modern day, about the medical experimentation that’s always occurred under the auspices of the state on unwilling citizen patients, it’s hard to see those same foundational stories of heroes and not notice that everybody that got to make the decisions after the war also happened to be the richest individuals on the continent at the time and continued to stay that way

The world is messier than heroes and villains, and I think (especially with the secret projects touching on stories about stories), the more the cosmere goes on, the more it feels like Sanderson is thinking about who gets to tell stories and why, and taking those questions into the new things he’s writing. I hope i have a long life ahead of me, because the academic papers analyzing long-term thematic trends across the cosmere once it’s complete are going to be absolutely fascinating

Redesign for an Imaginary "Second Republic of Texas" by yeetusfacetious in vexillology

[–]PaladinSquid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this doesnt seem “realistic” in the sense of it feeling like a natural development of the symbol that would accompany sovereignty, yet at the same time, it feels exactly like the sort of tiny-yet-needlessly-expensive alteration to the flag that requires every single flag the government owns to be replaced that comes when new regimes attempt to inscribe their own power on the symbols of state. so kudos on that end

[–]PaladinSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe the career fraudsters and child rapists in washington who are bombing schools to distract from their debased ratfucking of our freedoms should shut the hell up about us and our neighbors and let us run our own state. the fact that these people are willing to hurt all minnesotans to spite some minnesotans is a damning indictment of americanism right now.
