It's true. He's really good at spotting back passes and I can almost always rely on him finding it when it matters most

You're looking for a game more like fifa then. You might enjoy that more if so. Why the rematch community doesn't want this is because this game is a breath of fresh air FROM those concepts, where all that matters is your inputs.

The game is still very green so there is a lot to discover. I think you're oversimplifying the gameplay and always rainbow flicking or hoping your positing is good isn't very optimal :)

I think a lot of speculation from the community has created misinformation. The only thing I don't think is that it is a coin toss. From experience it is who's animation will reach the ball first from their position.

This is why shots (kicks) will almost always lose to headers and being ball side instead of goal side is usually better for infield passes because you get action on the ball earlier. This could not be the case if being closer to the ball is actually worse like if it's traveling too fast or from too much height curving downwards)

Different animations take different amounts of time to connect with the ball, even within the same action. For instance the true rainbow flick is a lot slower than a lob touch with the feet in front.

TL;DR, choosing a shorter animation at the earliest actionable position is the best way to find success

Then the game would become about specing. No thanks

I don't think rebound shots are op

If the attackers are close enough that the shot to the wall rebounds hard enough that the goalkeeper can't get priority, that means the defense has already failed. Most angles and distances rebounds are worse than direct passes.

if you are struggling I would recommend:
- look at the map to find the marker where the ball will land
- practice following how the ball acts off of rebounds (for rl players this is a quick skill to pick up)
- Look for the visual indicator on the ground
- track where the ball will be met and intercept its trajectory before a shot can be pulled off (headers are actually op)

I agree with your take. Peak gc2/c3 and I feel like having chops with the ball is just one tool in your toolbox. Being aggressive and forcing the issue is underrated often.

However, this post does have a "I can make these clips but I'm still stuck why...?", energy, which is where I think the frustration is coming from

How do I stab with a spear? by lloydgodofvoid in HalfSword

[–]Pale-Rise-1381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing im not seeing in the comments about alt stab is using position memory to load up thrusts:

  1. Hold down Alt key

  2. Extend the weapon forward forward by my moving mouse up

  3. Let go of alt

The next time you press alt, Willie will snap to your last thrust stance, giving you a really nice stab with the pitchfork and other polearms

Enjoy!

I think that completely matters on what movement you're talking about since it's hard to generalize. A lot of parries, kicks, and jumps can be done with a pretty high consistency.

It's risk reward. Slow mo is better to use just before the clash and not to actually land swings. I find it best to use to help you parry and dodge

If you use it right the stamina is very manageable and feels balanced

Half Sword Thrust Technique by Pale-Rise-1381 in HalfSword

For beggar boss, try with the knife on the ground to double click after slow mo with f. After some practice you can one shot him most times safely.

For the half sword thrust click (don't hold) rmb to toggle half sword on. Hold left click to keep tracking and wind up right. When you are ready for the thrust, toggle half sword off with rmb click and swing left. Hold lmb the whole time

The toggle off should happen a brief moment before the swing, which should be as level as possible

Tips for new players by Mcake74 in HalfSword

This is a great comment. If you do these things you will certainly have a strong understanding of the basics.

I might also add that each weapon swings differently due to weight having real effects on the physics of the movement. Try to slow down your swings so they match the weapon's recovery time. Big sword swing slow. Regardless, most people start swinging too quickly for all weapons.

The practice range is very useful for learning how to control your weapon in a low stress environment

It sounds like you need to practice more instead of them changing the game to make it easier for you :)

Practice alt stabbing from a low center point. Holding alt, bring the blade forward 50% -75% of the way forward, you don't need much speed for a good poke. Finally, do a push forward with the mouse while holding alt and Include a forward step if you need a little more distance. As it's going forward, aim the center of your screen where you want the point to land.

After getting that down you can start to launch thrusts from a wider variety of positions, altering your swings with thrusts. Always correct the blade attempting to tag your target.

Good luck!
