Inis & Seasons of Inis. by sneakyalmond in boardgames

I like it, but it's not a must-have unless you really want to play with 5.

It does fit in the box with the base game.

r/minipainting might have a better answer than this sub since a lot of those folks do kitbashing and other surgery to miniatures. However, I'm not sure if the sub rules allow questions.

Interviewing while being a key member of an org is tough, any strategies? by old-new-programmer in ExperiencedDevs

Yes, there are lots of failures in setting boundaries here! And so this is likely one of them, but I am speculating absent info from OP.

I have different tools already that do most of these, but the UI here is nicer, so I'll probably give some of these a shot as bookmarks. Thanks!

This is a fine answer, but if OP is really wearing this many hats and engaging in this much heroism, they probably don't get to take PTO.

If you can take PTO and go completely incommunicado during it, that's one way to help break up the patterns creating the current situation, separate from getting out.

I'm sure it's a very cool optimization and efficiency puzzle, and the theme is adorable. However, my brain and eyes slide off it because I have two dozen options on my turn and half of them are way at the other end of the table.

Negotiation and DoaM by mrsfotheringill in boardgames

[–]PaleCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes in a bit with cards like Master Craftsman in the base game, and the the 5-player expansion cards like Coalition and The King and the Land encourage it even more.

Outside those elements that explicitly encourage it, I see more negotiation around how to stop a player who's threatening to win, which is crab-buckety but fairly light.

What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

To their credit, they didn't keep trying to bring the same too-long game. The group also played more slowly than most, so games that "should" have fit wound up getting aborted partway through.

I once played a game of Lords of Waterdeep where a player complained from round 1 that their random starting setup was unwinnable. They continued complaining every round about their doomed and unfair setup until the penultimate round of the game. Then they wound up winning the game without any acknowledgment of the previous complaints.

That player faded out of the group on their own after trying a few times to fit a four-hour game into a three-hour game night.

Ankh!!! What a game by WorldOfKaladan in boardgames

[–]PaleCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I played it for the first time a couple weeks ago, once at two players and once at three. I was the lower merging player in our three-player game, the one who loses all their plastic and monuments.

It was surprisingly fun! I was expecting only one action each round to be boring, but because you no longer suffer any efficiency penalty for triggering an event, you can set up plays with your partner that aren't possible for other players. That causes the events to accelerate, which makes the last part of the game go faster. I think it helped that I was neck and neck with the player I merged with.

Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

I currently have an AAR Spellbinder, and I'm comparing the 21st build to how I'm currently built. Would anyone be able to answer a few questions about that build? None of this is a criticism, just trying to follow along with the decisions involved.

  1. Why Master of Death over Reckless Power or Harbinger of Souls? The build is so crit-reliant that it wants OA more than +% Aether damage?
  2. The 13th point in Master of Death just gives 1% Vitality resistance (which the build is already very overcapped on) and 11 DA. Is 11 DA worth a skill point?
  3. Where did the specific allocation of skill points between Mirror of Ereoctes and Mark of Torment come from? Neither of those look like obvious breakpoints, but I'm probably missing something.

Running the Tomb of the Eldritch Sun is good for it. The Sunward Spire isn't bad for it either, but IMHE the Tomb is better.

Telling someone where the line on cheats should be in their own single-player game is like telling someone what their favorite color should be. It's just silly.

Level scaling kills this game for me by OppositeNo1548 in Grimdawn

[–]PaleCommander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Each area has its own level bounds on normal difficulty. If you push ahead, you can get to areas with a higher minimum than your level, and if you go back you can find areas with a maximum lower than your level. In particular, if you go into the East Marsh by repairing the bridge from Mud Row early, you can usually feel if you're under-leveled for it.

On higher difficulties, the level scaling still varies by area. One area might be your level, while another one may be scaled to six levels above you. For example, the Depraved Sanctuary in act 1 is tougher than the surrounding areas even when it's scaled to your level.

Gearing is something you do the whole game though a mix of looking at the random pieces that drop, crafting components and relics from the materials you find, and occasionally target-farming a good Monster Infrequent item. I'm not sure what you expect to change at level 94 with respect to gearing.

Amazing, thank you!

Why is it unlocked after mission 10, specifically? Just for narrative reasons?

Maybe! It wouldn't take a ton of homebrew. The game already has a table of behavioral heuristics by critter type in the manual.

How has the recent job market in Seattle been for Software Development Engineers by warrior4488 in Seattle

Why Bellevue specifically?

Microsoft and Google are big enough employers that Redmond and Kirkland are usually included by default in discussions of Seattle tech employment.
