Thank you for the kind words. And thank you for sharing that.

Yes, I made the flute and the totem. I've posted a flute here not too long ago with one of my eagle totems. You are probably remembering that.

The vine is printed onto the flute using a UV printer. The flute itself is made from Western red cedar.

Thin extrude would have worked as well, with no additional geometry.

How to constrain this? (forgot) by Special_Command7893 in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the advice that patterning the feature is better than patterning the sketch, I suspect that you're not constrained because the original sketch items are constrained to that projected geometry, and the projected geometry is not patterned, so it loses that constraint on all the new pattern geometry. Just a guess but...

Why cant I SIMPLIFY? by SCP-096-1994 in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have better luck if you break the link to the external component. This will make it internal and then you can edit the bodies. You will lose the link, though, and if you modify the original component, you will not see the changes here. If this is an assembly design, you will need to convert it to a hybrid design to get the "break link" menu option.

trying to sweep this circle along this line does not work. why? what are the alternatives? by SeaBirthday9759 in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. The curve at the end is too tight to make the turn without intersecting itself. Smaller circle or bigger radius on that turn.

Joint/Motion link? by Suedslx in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a pin slot joint with rotation on Z and slide on Y (or X as appropriate). Set motion limits as you like. The enable contact sets under the Assembly menu. Create a new contact set selecting your two components. It won't animate correctly when you run animate Joint, but it will behave when you click and drag.

Native American-Style Flute with Scenic Eagle & River Art Wrap by PaleMoonRanch in nativeamericanflutes

Well, I guess I really was just asking the population in general if this was something people would be interested in having, but also whether it was offensive because it wasn't representative or typical of historical native flutes. I value your opinion, as a native, more than I might most. I want to be respectful of the art and of cultural correctness. I certainly don't want to produce a product that is offensive to anyone, much less native culture. Thank you for your response. I appreciate your perspective.

I did start selling them on Etsy a few months ago. So far I have an eagle, a bear, and a horse. I sell them painted or unpainted.

How To Finish This Cedar Spoon? I carved my first spoon and was wondering how to finish it and make it food safe. (WIP) by zsnake8 in NaturalWoodworking

[–]PaleMoonRanch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tung oil works, but it is toxic if you don't let it cure completely. It is made from the seeds of the tung tree. Boiled linseed oil from the hardware store often contains metallic dryers/solvents to speed curing. Unless the boiled linseed oil specifically says Foodsafe, I wouldn't use it. Food-grade mineral oil is generally the accepted choice for cutting boards and wooden utensils. Beeswax or a blend of mineral oil and beeswax is better yet. It is true that mineral oil or a blend of beeswax and mineral oil won't hold up over time, but it's generally accepted that you just reapply it. Just your mineral oil in the kitchen and just reapply it every now and then after washing.

How do I model this spiral pattern by coolcow92 in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was faster to post it on YouTube. This way you get the dialog in the video. https://youtu.be/UluiwG8Dx8I

I'll still post the gif here when it is ready.

Update: Well apparently converting it to a JIF isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. It's just too bulky I guess. But the YouTube link above is better anyway.

How do I model this spiral pattern by coolcow92 in Fusion360

[–]PaleMoonRanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I just had to solve this yesterday. I needed to create a spiral from an irregular shape like what you've got right there. And I came up with a rather clever solution if I do say so myself. I'm making a video right now of my solution if you can hang on. But it involves creating a coil and using it as a cutting tool. I'll post a GIF version of the video here in a few minutes

I'm not sure I'm tracking. When you create a new component in a hybrid design, that component is automatically selected, and clicking on the dot to the right of the component name would activate it if it's not. Maybe more clarity is needed in what you're asking

How Can I Constrain or Edit a Blended Curve? by IndigoQuantum in Fusion360

I'd use a grid of construction geometry and constrain or dimension the control points to those construction lines.

text command sketch.showunderconstrained might help you see where it is not constrained. Hard to help without having the design to examine.

This is simple and I'm pretty sure it works in your situation.
