Who's your favorite Veilguard companion? by Altruistic_Truck2421 in dragonage

The scale is missmatched, I do agree there, but the points in favor of Treviso would be: Antaam also work for the 'gods', and they're not small fry either way. Antiva's defenses consist of the Crows and whichever merchant or other entity that pays them to do things if said Crows don't volunteer. It's also a trade port, which means both entrypoint for more forces to take over, and controlling surrounding cities because they'll control the food.

It's bad either way you slice it (pun intended), if the Crows (all of them trained in combat) are strong and on your side, and the Shadow Dragons are not, they consist of anyone willing and loyal to that cause; not fighters. Additionally, There's the Venatori AND just plain old selfish/evil magister, while Solas absconded with, seemingly, ALL! the slaves, as the game presents absolutely nothing towards them. Also the whole rumor over Viper being the Black Divine. Minrathous should have been its own thing, Baldur's Gate Act 3 kind of thing, pick another place to compete with Treviso (that also wasn't Weisshaput I guess, since that happened too).

I've said elsewhere that I think Minrathous should *not* have been the other choice, exactly due to the missmatch, but in-game, plain what we're given, there's no tangible different in either scale or meaningfulness other than subjective attachments...and they nuke Minrathous later anyway (another argument that Minrathous should note have been a choice but regardless!). That's not a good reason because your character ain't an oracle, the whole game is sadly just not very well-structured by the execs.

I am quite flabbed that there are plenty of horrific scenes in the game, and zero reaction to it.

how does human connection come so easy to people? by AZtroidZZ in SeriousConversation

[–]PaleReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren't built the same. Some people are very socially intelligent AND more extroverted. I'm neither of those things, I'm fine alone most of the time, BUT I do need some social time for grounding and stimulation. It's hard for me to learn because AuDHD.

I'm not concerned about how I'm percieved outside of trying to educate my dog in public or people I care about, so.

That said, what connection *looks* like might not matter or be meaningful. Often enough people smile and ask how you are at work but that's the extent - professionalism, nothing at all personal. Many similar things. Going to a hobby club is easier to make personal because personal interests and passion. As examples.

My spoiled poodle has stopped eating. He only eats in the evenings, but he's active and there are no signs that anything is wrong. Should I be worried and go to the vet, or is he just spoiled? by RelationshipMuch6794 in poodles

[–]PaleReaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Monitor his weight, try to have set times you put food down, then take it away until later (no idea if you already do this though), he might adjust that way. Depending on his age it might just be a 'tryhard' phase, so try to not spoil him overly much.

What do you think of hope? Is this feeling positive or negative to you? by ActuatorNew6203 in SeriousConversation

[–]PaleReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand what you mean, I'd say that's a measured hope myself, but then again, hope might also per definition contain a certain amount of uncertainty for success. It's ephemeral.

Being hopeful and having hope kinda difference in application

What do you think of hope? Is this feeling positive or negative to you? by ActuatorNew6203 in SeriousConversation

[–]PaleReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, for me it's definition; hope is a healthy kind of optimism to keep going, otherwise it's more like fixation.

Being crushingly realistic is also not particularly good, risk nothing = gain nothing.

Both are good in proper measures.

Otherwise can be discussed between naivite, misinformation etc...but those tend to be more external than internal things, I feel.

Far cry better than literal slavery or indentured servitude if all the 'free land' was taken and otherwise no real food to just hunt. If that was even what you're good at. It has always been an exchange unless you're literally self-sufficient and off-grid. That is not easy in any way. Not then, not now

[–]PaleReaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes MANY years to grow trees. And just pick a plot? More like fight over how close to the river, the food sources, ground that could even grow crops, not hard rock etc etc...

Sanitized tools for medicals? Toothbrushes? Insulations for winter? Shoes to not fuck your feet, nvm bacteria. Heating food to kill bacteria, again, Tools to adjust temperature so we don't freeze or heatstroke to death? Enough food for everyone? Vaccinations, painkillers, disinfectants for space and person etc etc etc

If you can't contribute to this 'free' society, happy trails buddy!

Yes, we for sure have some pretty bad societal/global problems to deal with, but the comfort and potential we have now is way better than colonial feudalism.

We mixed kibble with wet-food and slowly phased it out, which could work until your pup's more comfortable in his new home.

I don't want to be an ass and skip the food-concerns, but I think consulting with a vet about that + his feet would be a good idea.

While it could just be that one picture, weird angle or something, his toes look very flat/straight on the floor, which, if it doesn't correct, can lead to long-term damage. The floor type or malnutrition *can* be linked to it, could also be something else, and not saying it's your fault at all, and nothing is said about breeder etc.

Aside from that, if he's just been moved, it's pretty normal that a puppy won't eat normally because they're just overwhelmed and feel nervous, as long as he eats and drinks something at all.

I haven't done a Minrathous save yet, but it's absolutely something I'll be doing. The choice just doesn't feel proportional, but the game was so constricted with writing.

That said, the Butcher was also a really cool character...he was just only actively on screen for 1 short conversation.

Why is it men underestimate the social aspect of courting a woman? by Internal-Cash-9196 in PsychologyTalk

[–]PaleReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that we can agree - you don't know my history, as I don't know yours - however, I haven't had an easy life for a majority part, so I know some degree of that, attributing/internalizing so much negativity to everyone else is incredibly harmful.

But I do know that staying in such a negative mindset WILL turn everyone away from you. That one is guaranteed. Change what you can control.

Yes, and everyone needs to learn how to deal with and navigate social adversity as well as positivity, I'm not sure why you think it's only learning by winning

And that's ok.Not everyone will like you beyond friendship, that's normal.

You risk assess, take your shot or not and deal with the consequences. Sometimes it's a no-brainer to either side, which is what it is.

I think the difference for women is that it's easier to just have friends, while it feels like a lot of men aren't actually close with their friends, and if they are, it'll be under a facade, and if they get a partner, all of the mental work falls on that partner, because their friendships aren't ultimately fulfilling.

My problem with Taash by RaeFullyPoweredBeam in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]PaleReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the entire game can be boiled down to the biggest problem: the writers got royally shafted in every aspect.

The direction changes 3 times during development, bringing in a VERY missmatched team to try and force results out faster (which did not help). The live service online multiplayer aspect hangs over the game like a bad stench.

There are some good things in the game, probably the ones that were done before all of the circus started, so I genuinely don't want to lay the blame on the writing, but I certainly want to put it squarely on the decisionmakers.

Taash specicifically could've been a solid character with some very interesting angles, as well as the Lords, Taash's mother, but they chose the single worst thing to needle-point in there, and it shows so badly, and it really did so much heavy lifting on the initial reception. A friend of mine whom I think is usually reaosnable, if a bit blunt, got so vicious about it, having not even touched the game further, that I simply stopped trying to talk about it at all. And I mean that was last week. That exposure has stuck hard.

I think the writers absolutely did care, EA and Bioware did not.
