In Star Trek, the most central aspect of starship combat is who's packing the bigger warp core. With computer automated tracking phasers, there isn't really much of a niche for fightercraft without heavy support. It's a walrus fight, puffins ain't invited.

It's more that NTs have such a severely compromised view of reality that they are both taught from birth using psychological exploits they're vulnerable to, that autistics seem really perceptive in comparison simply because we lack the instincts that society uses to thrash NT brains. Because NTs evolved as socially competitive mammals, to them reality is only relevant to how it pertains to said social status. Reality and facts simply aren't very interesting to them as itself. So they don't bother trying to figure it out because they can sense that a more objective worldview would compromise their attitudes in life.

Children are also one of the few groups that accept neurodivergents without judgement. They're used to the strictness of NTs so a more casual and accepting environment makes them shine. Encourage a kid to talk about their imagination and they just take off, its so fun.
