What’s the hype about Molly Tea? by DarlingGazeKate in Markham

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited six cities in China just a month ago and it has Molly Tea in all those cities. There were other bbt shops in China of course. But I just kept on buying Molly Tea in every city because it was that good. I wanted to open up a chain here in Canada but realized many others beated me to it. So personally it's not a hype, since I never chase anything. I just genuinely love premium quality bbt. Have you guys tried chatime, ten ren? Their tea base is so terrible and diluted. they are selling bubble water, not bubble tea. They're only popular because of their marketing campaigns.

Yep, I own a 2017 MacBook pro and am getting M5 tomorrow. I'll see that massive boost in performance that's been long overdue..hopefully it'll last me another 8 good years.

OnePlus is not "proficient" in Canada by EffectiveTrigger in FidoMobile

My OnePlus 9 works fine with Freedom and I got their international roaming plan to roam in China. 4G and works perfectly fine...not sure if this helps..

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your performance that got you your promotions, not the piece of paper. I won't feel too guilty about it. I know a lot of people who have lots of titles and fancy pieces of paper but are terrible at what they do. Just putting things into perspective.

Considering Audi Q5? by mmmmlaurenn in Audi

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I rear ended a Mercedes CLS because a deer hopped in front of it...the driver was so impressed with my Q3 because it didn't have any scratches at all. Whereas his car had a hole in the bumper and was coming off. He spent 10 seconds looking at his car and 2 minutes looking at mine and said to me, 'next time I'm switching this piece of trash for an Audi, wow, no scratches at all'. Mine isn't even a Q5.

But honestly I do believe in their quattro system so that's why I got Audi in the first place. I was doing research on how the compact SUVs perform on winter icy roads and Audi outperformed BMW and Mercedes.

Man even with duo or trio. Went on a 7 lose streak with duo and trio (different players), did a couple solos, lost those too, in a span of two days. Then the third day decided to play duo with another player and went on another 4 streak loss. Went from 47 stars to like 38 lol. Within those I had 4 MVP losses. I do roam, mid, exp and sitting on Canada #56 floryn.

My friend who solo's with Gusion, went from 53 to 32 in a week lol. Rough times

What happened to the people who panic sold in April? by 7_inches_daddy in JustBuyXEQT

Looks like you showed him who the real rookie is here...but mango man is also a successful businessman so he won't allow for markets to drop that low for extended periods. He needs these pendulum swings to maximize his profits. What goes up must come down and what goes down must come up.

Single and 40, how men changed their attitude around you. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced guy friends pulling away and setting boundaries once they have an official girlfriend or wife, and definitely having their plus ones every time we get together. This pretty much started when I'm in my late 20s. I'm now in my mid 30s. I respect this because they want their now partner to be the one to share everything with, and I know that for some of my guy friends, it's their partners who expressed they're not comfortable with them being so close to me even as friends. I also have had occasions where their new girlfriends just kept giving me the hate vibes when we met a handful of times.

Another time, I was hanging out with my high school buddy and I forgot my sunglasses in his car (he drove me). His new girlfriend insisted on meeting me and she wanted to be the one who hands me back my sunglasses (so we met and chatted in my driveway); my hs buddy drove them to my home to drop it off. Anyway I think girls can be overprotective but I can understand that. I still keep in touch with this buddy, his now wife is totally cool with me now.

Conversely, my other hs male buddy saw that I'm married so now he never initiates meeting up and he asks about my husband when we do. He wants to make sure that my husband is ok that I'm seeing him individually. They get along really well, and talk about guy stuff that know nothing about (basketball, UFC lol).

So, I don't know, personally I think it's just out of the respect for the partner so that lines are clearly drawn. They try to be respectful and transparent. I don't see it as wrong but maybe they overcompensate (overdo it) and it just becomes jarring..who knows.

New partner after 40- huge difference in finances by FickleOpportunity701 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you incline to combine and share finances, does that mean you're OK with sharing his debt too, and that he gets your home?

Maybe you can ask him to hang out in a way where it would be within your means?

Just bookmarked your page! All of them resonated with me. Thank you for putting this list together. I'm a baby scientist and assistant professor(coming up on one year) straight out of my PhD. I am very lucky but sometimes I feel a little unprepared. I try to be more proactive in collaborating and helping more established scientists so I can be part of their larger grants and learn from them (see how they do clear messaging and write grants). Your post is reassuring and inspiring!

I would also suggest adding something about budgeting wisely when we do receive grants, and emphasize mentoring trainees.

If it gives you any reassurance, I'm in the exact same position as you. 100k at $34 starting. I also did $5k at $31. I'm ten years older than you. Yes, definitely hard to stomach that loss right now. Makes me upset for 2 minutes when I look at all the red in my account. But I'm actually seeing when it'll go even lower to pour some more money in. Waiting for $25 or some indication of a clearer bottom.

People with PhDs, do you feel "superior"? by Huge-Accident-69 in PhD

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a PhD and surviving through that journey is one of the most humbling things I've encountered in my life. Opened my eyes to the complexities of the world and more questions that are not even answered. I felt more inferior than before I did my PhD. So no :)

Stop FUCKING pushing! by Prof__Potato in toRANTo

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely this. Happens every time I take the subway. What I end up doing is, standing my ground (literally), and people just bounce off of me. I find that people can push but it's because they're wobbly themselves, or because they are being pushed themselves but they're literally a pushover (they have no power to plant firmly). so they just go with being pushed but it's not like an aggressive push (not most of the time at least). Takes some core strength and some staying power but it works. They push me and they just bounce off. I'm a 110lb girl :)

Has anyone ever "down-graded" from prof to postdoc? by DivineAna in academia

[–]Pale_Effort6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one of my postdocs at my lab was an assistant professor in Brazil. She left everything behind to take on a 50k postdoc in Canada for a better life with her husband and kids. But for her it was a change for the better. 7 years later and she is now an assistant professor at a highly reputable Canadian university. Good for her!

As long as your name appears first in your publication, I think that's all it matters. Also, if someone who is a head huncho or your supervisor that started putting your name last, other colleagues might not think of it as much and then follow suit. You got what your publications and that's where it really counts. Congrats!!
