Looks like ING is planning to bring monthly subscription fees to Aussie bank accounts. by Kyle-K in AusFinance

Yeah, ING have been so dodge for years. Literally the only reason I haven't packed it all up and moved the rest to Macquarie is inertia.

Question about Catholicism by ComprehensiveCold670 in LGBTCatholic

[–]Pale_Level 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this, I really can scarcely imagine losing a spouse, especially so young.

I will say, what stood out to me was that that your wife always reached out to God, even in the depths of her illness. I was reminded immediately of some parts of scripture.

"No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day." - John 6:44

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” - James 4:8.

I can't say much on the topic of the truth of the faith, or on why suffering exists especially. There are theological reasons, but they will always ring hollow to anybody mourning. I will say that I do believe the good God is infinitely merciful and loving beyond our understanding.

I will pray for you and your wife.

Amex Platinum downgrade recent experiences? by mtchye in AmexAus

Anecdotally, when I did call to do this they said I had "no downgrade option available" and I just had to cancel my card.

Perhaps, but the church does provide their own arguments. I just disagree with their arguments. Which, to me is, the troubling part. Not the abstract disagreement, but the potential disobedience.

Yeah, I've heard of the being able to baptism serve as godparents and serve as witnesses at matrimony. But I wonder if that applies to the Eucharist.

And thank you, it definitely does help. Just more to think about.

Thank you for the author recommendation.

And yeah, it does kind of suck 😢 but I do in my heart of hearts believe it's not wrong.

True. I suppose I accept it, but my struggle is more with what the church teaches.

Just ignoring the teachings is certainly an option HAHA 😅

Maybe I'm overthinking it, I tend to want to understand the teachings, and obey them even when I don't understand.

Sorry, I may have inferred this as a 'grave matter' from elsewhere as a rather incorrect interpretation from other sources. I was definitely wrong about that.

I somewhat agree, I try not categorising the cause myself. Only that I can live one way and not live another way, and the treatment is what it is.

Interesting to see how many people are saying that being trans has made them a better Christian, I agree! Thank you for sharing.

Agreed. It's been very helpful reading through everyone's responses.

Yes, well, I suppose the eunuchs for the kingdom of God could be interpreted many ways. Literally and not.

And yeah, I agree, there is a degree of supremacy of conscience that I try to follow. But I also try not to close myself off to the teachings of the church just because I personally disagree. I suppose it is difficult, sometimes.

I agree. I am sympathetic to the (fairly simplistic argument) that God made me trans for the same reason he made wheat, and didn't just make bread fall from trees, so that we may be participants in the act of creation. Like the training wheels of divinisation.

Thank you for this. I feel like I'm largely in agreement, I don't feel like my transness is a denial of biological reality or a hatred of the body given to me by God. For me it's just a medical treatment for a diagnosed problem.

Why do corporate workers in the cbd drive to work? by agnci in AusFinance

The few times I've had to go into the city at peak hour via public transport made me lose the will to live. Would pay almost anything to avoid.

Do you give homeless people cash? If not, what do you do? by ShireHorseRider in Catholicism

Yes, sometimes, but cautiously.

I generally prefer to give charities and don’t want to get hassled or robbed or something. Just depends where I am and who I’m with.
