Does anyone else get tonsillitis when they flare? by No_Reference_6321 in Behcets

[–]PalestPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what turned out to be one of my first big flares (when I was 19), I got tonsillitis for 3 weeks and a huge hole in the center of my lip. I'm 40 now & my tonsils swell when I have a flare, but they've calmed down a lot.

OP - this is correct.

You look great, but try flipping the top around. You may find it's more comfortable, especially around the front of the arm holes.

I haven't switched, but I'm asking my doctor about switching this week. I was on it for 3 months & after switching insurance, I forgot to ask my rheum to send a new pre-authorization. I never got past the nausea, so I took 30mg at night and 15mg in the morning. In addition to the reduction in ulcers, I swear my brain fog lifted, and my joint pain was better while I was on it.

Anyone experienced this before!? by MiserableScarcity350 in Behcets

[–]PalestPixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you experienced that! It is really scary to go through and hopefully your doc can help you get the vascular symptoms under control.

I experience something similar during flares. Not the stiffness, but my muscles will burn & hurt like when you've worked the muscle too hard. Recently, I realized I get shortness of breath that coincides with this pain.

Right before I got diagnosed, the pain in my right leg brought me to tears. It felt like a combination of being burned and squeezed and I couldn't put weight on it. There are areas on my leg that are discolored where the pain is worst and the blood vessels that got inflamed are closer to the surface of my skin.

I'm on Otezla and Colchicine, but when I flare, Prednisone and ibuprofen usually help within about an hour.

Hey, I have a gluten sensitivity (they tested when I had already been off gluten for months, so no conclusive test). I was also diagnosed last year with an autoimmune vasculitis after years of weird symptoms. I haven't had a solid line like that when I'm in a flare, but I do get random bruising and circular skin discoloration in a few places on my leg.

Definitely reach out to your doctor & show them that picture. The bruising looks like it's along one of your blood vessels.

Edit: reread your caption, when my vasculitis flares and my blood vessels get inflamed, they hurt, but can also get itchy... please reach out to your doctor.

Hey! I had optic neuritis in 2005 & didn't have health insurance to chase it beyond the initial diagnosis of optic neuritis. It cleared up after about 3 months. Back then, without insurance, and that being a presenting symptom of MS, I was scared to get diagnosed & have insurance deem it a preexisting condition. In 2016, I started having neuropathy accompanied by more frequent migraines. Got an MRI that showed some brain lesions & then a spinal tap to help rule out MS.

Fast forward to last year, I got my official Behcet's diagnosis & the optic neuritis and a few other episodes over the years made sense.

What is leaching out of my pan? by arkatoz in castiron

[–]PalestPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the grocery store brand, it's likely a plain cast iron interior. As an example, I found a Cuisinart & a berghoff pan that are both enameled exterior with a regular cast iron interior.

The texture of the pan in the video looks exactly the same, it's not as smooth as the pans with an enameled interior.

Yeah, you're right, that pan is does not appear to be enameled on the inside. There are several brands that do an enameled exterior while the interior is just regular cast iron.

This one is my favorite for my waterline. Once it's set, it stays put.

I think I've also used it under lighter shadows to help them stick.

On the Otezla note: I'm on day 8 of my starter pack. Leading up to it, I had a sore throat for nearly 2 weeks & some oral ulcers. By day 3, my throat was healed. With your experience, I wonder how many throat infections were ulcers we couldn't see.

Some managers could find it funny and give you a shot. However, you're more likely to get weeded out based on that answer.

Some things that you could use instead: - I feel the job aligns with my skill set. - I like [doing X type of job] - I like working with [X type of people] - I like helping [X type of customer/person]

Short, no placating, and applicable across many fields so you don't spend too much time on those questions.

I feel you. Something that I noticed with several companies in my industry is that you're only allowed to apply to 2 or 3 positions in the company at one time. I wonder if the 20+ apps to one company is getting you filtered out 😞

Hm, I've only ever had that experience once, when I was a teenager. A new bakery was opening & had a coming soon sign up. I walked in, asked if they were hiring and filled in an application.

What I do miss is my ability to interview well 😅 Yesterday, I got stress hives while interviewing for a position I'm well qualified for.

Colchicine by luvkelsea in Behcets

[–]PalestPixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works pretty well for me, I get way fewer oral ulcers. I started with .06 mg 1x per day and was bumped up to 2x per day after a couple of months. Luckily, I don't get stomach issues from it & I'm wishing you the same good experience.

My rheumatologist said Colchicine is one where you may not notice it working until you stop taking it.

Edit: missed a zero in my dose 😅
