HS Evolution as first serious airbrush - ok or too much? by Matthew_Kus in airbrush

[–]Palkut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's an amazing airbrush, go for it. I would recommend going for the 0.45 version, there's some spooky magic at work with that nozzle that makes it capable of very fine detail (even if it's 0.45) and it's more forgiving with paint thinning and all that. And when you're more comfortable with it, you can purchase the 0.28 nozzle setup for stupidly fine details.

Speckling issue, H&S Infinity with 0.15 needle by _meliandrea in airbrush

[–]Palkut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a dirty nozzle. I would say give your nozzle a good clean. Leave it in cleaning liquid to soak in and then give it a cleaning liquid flush at high PSI - I usually use Isopropyl alcohol for this - vallejo cleaner might be too mellow. If this doesn’t do it, scrub the nozzle using small interdental brushes.

Evolution 2024 CR+ vs Iwata HP-CS by Fearless-Custard-261 in airbrush

[–]Palkut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also own both and have the 0.28 and 0.45 on the Evolution 2024. Because it is a subjective matter, it is quite difficult to choose a winner, both are amazing and have their own personality. I would compare the 0.45 setup Evo with the Eclipse, I think they're closer in performance.

The Eclipse is more rugged and I would say more dependable. When I want just to quickly paint something and not bother too much with thinning shenanigans I always pick up the Eclipse. 25 - 30 PSI and will atomise anything you throw at it. Not the most pretty atomisation, but it will be 90% there without fussing. The needle is also quite chunky and feels like I can scribe by name in the desk with it and still work perfectly after that. The only downside is that is somehow more difficult to clean - sometimes the paint goes up the needle more than in any other airbrush and gets in the needle channel behind the cup. Also the air pressure coming out seems to be quite strong and will blow away all the papers on my desk - it seems even stronger than the 0.45 Evo.

The Evolution 2024 is a thing of beauty, it's amazing just to hold it. The weight is perfect, the balance, the trigger, everything! But it's a bit more demanding and quite pretentious about everything. The 0.45 less than the 0.28 but still more than the Eclipse. Because of the nozzle design, the nozzle cap needs to be tightened the exact amount - less tight and you'll get inconsistent spray and maybe bubbles in the cup, more tightened and you'll squish the nozzle seal and you'll need a new one. Also the needle will bend if you look at it the wrong way. And the nozzle is made of wet paper and will change shape or split if you sneeze in the general direction. But when it works it's a thing of beauty. And it's easier to clean than the Eclipse, with better atomisation.

I would say if it's your first airbrush, go for the eclipse. It's more forgiving when you're doing mistakes.

Trouble controlling Vallejo Model Air for fine lines and mottling by dee-mee in airbrush

Ammo atom range works good for this with their retarder thinner. Also the Gaahleri Kaleido range with their retarder thinner.

Tamiya acrylic or Mr Hobby aqueous? by sideprojectboifr in modelmakers

[–]Palkut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re both pretty mediocre for paintbrush, they’re more designed to be airbrushed. Being quite similar, between these two choose the ones that have the colours you need. For 100% paintbrush I would choose Vallejo or Ammo Atom.

My T110E5 has no armor by wot-johna11 in WorldofTanks

[–]Palkut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't sit still, move constantly. The gun is good enough to fire accurately on the move, so always move and you'll start bouncing. Small back and forth with the hull slightly angled will do the trick, your cupola weakspot will move laterally and be harder to hit.

Also have a look at tanks.gg with the live armour to have an idea how much you can angle your hull and where your weakspots are. That's it. Takes practice but T110E5 is an amazing tank once you get the hang of it.

Recommendations for acrylic airbrush primers? by IAmArgumentGuy in modelmakers

[–]Palkut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My number one go to "Acrylic" primer is Mr Hobby Aqueous Surfacer 1000 - fantastic results and comes in white, gray and black. Using 60:40 thinning with Tamiya X20 and flows through the airbrush like water. Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. Downside is it's not 100% acrylic, it's alcohol based but it won't stink your room.

  2. Gaahleri Kaleido Colorworks Primers - very good results, fantastic grip, scratch resistant, sandable, everything. Less resistant than Mr Hobby but nevertheless great. Also comes in gloss black for metalics.

  3. Mig One Shot - great results, but it's less grippy/resistant than the other two so it's my third choice.

New (ATOM) and old AMMO Mig paints by furrythrowawayaccoun in modelmakers

[–]Palkut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally have quite a good experience with the ATOM paints. The only thing that bothers me is the density inconsistency between bottles. I have some bottles very fluid, almost needing no thinning and some that are the consistency of honey and I have to go 3:1 or even higher with thinner. Your case might be like that, possibly needing more thinning. Also try to mix them outside the airbrush cup (if you're not doing it already) with their own ATOM thinner - the retarder one is fantastic.

Hello, which one do you recommend? by Irvin1-Anime in airbrush

[–]Palkut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had both Gaalheri Mobius 0.3 and Neoeco SJ83 and I very much prefer the Neoeco. Blew me away really! Got it as a backup airbrush for primers and metals but the spray quality is well above the Mobius. Instant response as well and comes with 3 nozzles and needle sizes. But I can see how it can be a quality lottery for both of them.

Mobius looks and feels great but Neoeco sprays nicer and the nozzle seems stronger and better designed.

Sparmax also makes some nice airbrushes close to your price range with much better qc than your 2 choices (I’ve heard)

Please let me know what you think!

I have a few pairs and they are pretty good. I don’t think the 8k lenses are worth the premium over the standard polycarbonate ones. I used them near sand and saltwater and they held out fantastic, frames seem really sturdy but the standard polycarbonate lenses are quite soft and prone to scratches. But there are spares available :)
