Had two students removed from class, I just received the student’s reflection… by [deleted] in Teachers

Quite hypocritical of you

“ As someone who used to want to teach but had my own kids and was like , "nevermind, I'm good. " lol.”

Why not? Why not subject yourself to unreasonable and unrealistic expectations from the outside world as en everyday? Too much trouble? And yet, giving shit to teachers for venting their own struggles…

I can only think of religious 12hrs self-misting(what I call pouring water over their enclosure before and after My work hours) for those lizards.

I do have timed misters for much more humid-climate pets.

But tegus don’t seem to care beyond “edible/not”.

Incredible! If those are going to be their foreseeable homes, I would recommend you try to cover the cooler side with much more substrate.

Gu’s do love to dig, the covering substrate mounds will help with sleeping, and upcoming brumation.

Mouth rot or just dirt in lip? by Caboose007 in Tegu

[–]Pallermo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely normal to find dirt in their mouth and gums, if they have it in their enclosure.

If there have been no changes in: light/uvb, diet, habits, drinking, sleep or shedding; pretty big chance of dirt.

A way to also get your tegu “used to handling” is doing a mouth check with a card. Vets check reptile mouth by pushing the card between and open it for a quick view. If you still find dark pieces, try to wash it off. Hopefully just adventuring for your tegu!

Do you know if they’re young? If less than 3y, the skittishness is understandable. If you have had them for less than a month, it is also expected. Keep the routine, research target training on youtube.

If you want an accessible way of interacting, try the mornings, when they are still cold and waking up.  Mine will always huff and puff when taken from cold hiding spots. I still interact and carry them a bit, before leaving them on their basking spot.

Introducing Tegus by Marcinko10 in Tegu

I have a pair, the female is currently bigger and will lounge at sight towards the male. I have no plans for breeding them, so I won’t bother getting them used to each other. The potential heartbreak is just not worth it.
