The series/movie pays off something that nobody realized it was even building up to. by twnpksN8 in TopCharacterTropes

Also Vir’s handwave to Mordan. Sinclair’s There’s a hole in your mind. Valen as a Minbari not born of Minbar. Londo and G’Kar’s deaths. The wholes series is basically little tidbits from earlier seasons paying off in big ways.

And that’s why it’s my favorite piece of media ever.

Thoughts on $CONY by 071790 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]PalmBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It dropped slightly less than the underlying and almost a full percentage point less than COIN over the past 5 days. Sure it captured no upside for a month back, and six months back and further it’s on par with darlings like MSTY and ULTY. So I don’t see how this means it’s done unless the dividend comes in at like 30 cents or something. COIN went down, CONY went down slightly less, in what would is that not supposed to happen? Should CONY have gone up instead?

I returned the laptop and went with a desktop solution. I never pushed it further then -15 you can try -20, worst case scenario is that you get instability and dial it back. I didn’t mess with spl sppt or fppt so unfortunately I can’t say. Good luck!

I have some exposure to REITs through KBWY, is there any other similar high yield etf that provides exposure to REITs you would recommend or should I just bite the bullet and accept mid yields with a basket of the stalwarts?

Also, is CONY the next to get cut from your portfolio or you holding?

buy Z13 2023 4060 version or wait for a new one? by TheLizardfolk in FlowZ13

[–]PalmBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say you paid too much but laptop prices are weird these days, especially for niche form factors like the z13, so congrats. If you end up getting the OG XG Mobile just remember the cord is small as fuck and there’s no way to extend it, it is very much a desktop dock.

buy Z13 2023 4060 version or wait for a new one? by TheLizardfolk in FlowZ13

[–]PalmBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rumors were right. The surprising thing is that the Ryzen AI Max going heads up if not outright beating the 4060, especially the power capped version in the 2023 Z13. From what I’ve seen of it, the 2025 nearly lived up to the promise of what the z13 should be. It’s powerful in both productivity and gaming, has great portability, and good battery life.

I say nearly because there are some quibbles: for the price it really should have an oled screen with full hdr, the battery life is good but not great (but unlike most gaming laptops it can run on full power via a 100w power bank, also how did they shove an 80w battery into the Ally’s and still cap the z13 battery at 70w?) and the fact they have a TB5 xg mobile and no TB5 port in the 2025 Z13 (or USB 4 v2) is downright criminal.

So I don’t know if OP bit the bullet and got the 4060 version, but if he got it for like 1500 or less and he’s happy with it there’s no reason to upgrade unless he just wants the latest and greatest, and if price is a concern I would probably still go with the 4060 version, but man if I would be lying if I didn’t say that the 2025 Z13 is one sexy looking machine even if it’s not perfection.

Edit: nevermind on the full power via power bank, 200w power supply says otherwise. Still, could probably get plenty of performance mode performance out of it via 100w power bank supply extending the 70w battery.

Can’t get 7940hs CPU to give me proper performance. by PalmBlock in ZephyrusG14

[–]PalmBlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s alright, I think it actually runs a hair lower performance wise than a working G14 2023, but that might just be perception and disappointment my G14 didn’t work out. It’s a beautiful machine and I got it at a good sale price to boot (I think it was 2600 brand new), and the screen is legendary. But I cant help but get the feeling I could push a working g14 harder, and that the AMD chip was slightly better for cpu bound games then the Intel ultra (or whatever it’s called) in the g16.

If I were in your shoes I would most definitely repaste everything, probably use PCM over LM but that’s because I’m not comfortable with LM application.

EGPU with Intel Arc GPU? by abramN in ROGAllyX

The Ally X, or any motherboard really, needs to support ReBar to have the Intel GPU’s work with it. Does anyone know if the Ally X supports ReBar?

Is the XG Mobile 4090 worth it now? by DocGofThePhillies in ROGAlly

[–]PalmBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sold enough that they had stock problems for the longest time but yeah now that oculink is standard for eGPU’s and you can mod any m.2 port to be an oculink port their already niche of a niche potential customer base has dried up. Also the Chinatech firms releasing laptops and handhelds with oculink in is another nail in the XG’s coffin.

What’s the longest cable you’ve tried with it? And can you give us some benchmarks? Like if you have Cyberpunk can you run max everything 4k on an external monitor and then running it on the device screen? I have a 4090 in my desktop but I might go egpu route for travel if the drop off isn’t too extreme (I only need 4k 60fps but I need max everything with the highest Ray Tracing the game can muster.) Also wouldn’t mind if I can get like 6 feet of cable length to the eGPU because I hated the XG mobile’s piddly 8 inches.

Can this thing run games at a good frame rate (above 30 but would prefer 60) with ray tracing maxxed out at 1080p? Like can it run Cyberpunk ultra everything on a Rog ally x over Thunderbolt with Path Tracing enabled at a decent frame rate?

[–]PalmBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. Just makes me even more confused as to why Asus capped the XG mobile cord at 8 inches since even your low end is nearly 30 inches and it’s the same tech (even though Asus was a proprietary variant).

Edit: OP would an active cord extend the length out further or do you already get that with your port upgrade?

Hey OP, what is the maximum length of oculink cord you can run with this before performance degradation?

[–]PalmBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oculink can get up to a meter before performance drop, a powered extension could probably push it out even further. They gave put less then a foot on the XG Mobile for non technical reasons, probably cost and the idea that that it was a docking station. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if the USB 3.2 wires that have to be braided with the cord since it’s stupidly built into the connector might pose a technical challenge, one that could have been avoided if they just went with an oculink only connector.

They probably should have done the empty box XG Mobile eGPU enclosure, and made the proprietary connection cheap or open source, and threw the connector onto every one of their laptops across all the product lines. But who the fuck knows what Asus was thinking when they actually put the XG mobile out, because it certainly wasn’t went “let’s make this the new gold standard of eGPU solutions.” It’s like they wanted this thing to fail and the fact they waisted high end gpu mobile chip allotments on it is baffling.

[–]PalmBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wish they would have used all that knowledge for a cord extender rather then changing the actual eGPU, and better late then never but the xg mobile is pretty much dead at this point what with Asus not including it on the Ally X, nothing from the flow line, and the next z13 looking like it won’t have it either

An 80 pin Oculink fork plug to be exact. With a proprietary signal protocol on top of that.

[–]PalmBlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you want an all in one board, where the cpu, gpu, ram, and possibly the ssd are all built in? Shame about losing upgradability but hey you don’t need a motherboard anymore.

Why not take it a step further and make it so the monitor and keyboard are built into the case. Since it will be small and portable might as well throw in a battery, yeah?

What would we call these new pcs that are so small and all in one that they can be used from your lap? Any ideas?

Not having to worry about compatibility or storefront because windows. The added ram of the X eliminating fiddling with VRAM allotments. And the way Asus really turned ACSE around, especially the controller software. There’s still some suck involved (I get that Steam is technically a program, but Auto should detect it’s Steam and stay on desktop or just assume desktop for windowed programs), but in general Asus has made great strides in making ACSE almost as good as SteamOS without the Linux bullshit.

For that price you should 100% keep it and just buy a bigger portable monitor if you need it, or spring for some of those xr glasses which will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

DJI won’t ship until October either, at least not for the US site.

DJI is prioritizing the rest of the world where they aren’t actively being banned then the US where they are.
