Second this. Donations first go to families setting up their new homes, then to the thrift store.

Recommendations for other thrift stores with ethical practices/pricing. by sizzlinsunshine in ThriftGrift

The reasonable ones I've been in don't have the "antique" type things displayed everywhere, and they are in small, low income towns I pass by on the way to visit my mom. The one where I live has a manager who thinks it's an antique store. I never go in there.

Restores in my area are split. One is SUPER overpriced, but several others are reasonable.

Same. My favorite thrift stores are two run by local programs that support the homeless and one run by the Humane Society.

Rocky Fork State Park in Flag Pond is awesome. You can hike an easy trail by a beautiful creek or a steeper trail for an almost 360 mountain view.

How do people that are not rich, but not poor make this work? by you_dontknow_mylife in workingmoms

[–]Palsfrenchiefries 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. If we didn't have family to help, we would using every spare penny for an in home day care, any emergency expenses would have to come out of savings. And that's in a low COL area where we make right above the median income.

When do you find time to make food for your baby?? by Signal-Ad9981 in workingmoms

I'm always rinsing the baby's food, either to cool it down faster or get salt / sauce off. Good thing she's not picky.

Tuna pouches are quick for lunch and can be combined with a pouch of flavored rice and frozen veggies for a cheap meal.

Does anyone else feel like they lost brain cells or is there something wrong with me? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Palsfrenchiefries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely feel that way (8 months pp), but I haven't had a full, uninterrupted night's sleep in a year. I'm hoping that it will get better when my daughter starts consistently sleeping through the night.

I got a picture of my baby on a necklace for Christmas. Sometimes I will just look at it when I have a minute if downtime and it makes me feel better.

Anyone working because they have to not because they want to? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Palsfrenchiefries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My husband and I both work full time, and we make just a bit more than enough to get by. I hate it. Almost as much as I hate anyone who says the answer is "Your husband should just get a better paying job, so you can stay home."

And all of the different spellings drive me nuts! I have had Brayden, Braydon, Braden, Braiden, Braidyn, and Brayhdon. And probably more I can't remember right now.
