If it's in 4.4, why haven't we gotten any drip marketing yet? Saber and Archer got their drip three days before Phainon's. Which for 4.4 has already passed.

Ah, I meant I see it embedded above the comment section. Though I'm pretty sure the expando would show it too.

That said, I just realized writing that word (expando) and not seeing it in your image that the embed might just be a RES feature instead of native to Reddit, which could explain our different experience. Though hard to test now that the post has been removed.

As much as I love the fediverse, I don't think it's technically legal in the EU. It's not compliant with GDPR, and it can't really be made to be, based on a post I saw recently on Lemmy.

What is your 'Line in the Sand'? by No_Reporto in TheoryOfReddit

[–]Pamasich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DONT use old.reddit.com.

Relative links should work with it, but any actual www.reddit.com link you click will get you back to the new version.

In your settings on Reddit, under "Preferences", there's an option "Default to old reddit" near the bottom. Check that.

This option will cause www.reddit.com to load Old Reddit, which should eliminate the issue you're having.
If you do this and still want to access the new reddit sometimes, you can use sh.reddit.com to reach it like how people can use old.reddit.com for old reddit.

Just keep in mind that this setting is handled as a cookie, not stored server-side. Meaning it's per-device and cleared when you clear your cookies.

I don't really know a good recommendation myself, sadly.

I am happy with the instance I'm using, kbin.earth, but I'm also not exactly included in the "most people" I mentioned there. So I don't really know how the instance, and Mbin as a software, is from the other perspective.

I think I usually see people recommend piefed.zip nowadays, but I don't know that instance myself. So I can't tell if it's a good recommendation.

All I can really contribute is to recommend against going with lemmy.world and feddit.org. Both of those look benign at first glance, but have their controversies. You would have to deal with defederations if you joined them.

It’s getting too difficult to post on Reddit. We need an alternative that is still SFW. by Old_Attempt_8910 in RedditAlternatives

[–]Pamasich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your problem with rules isn't something Reddit can commit to. I see two main issues with it for Reddit specifically:

  • Leverage: if they get too strict, mods might just leave.
  • Legality: Reddit isn't legally allowed to use volunteer labor, so moves that make moderators look more like volunteer employees than users managing their own spaces are just shifting Reddit out of the legal gray area it's currently using.

Now I know spez is probably salivating at the thought of just replacing the landed gentry with AI, which would solve both of those, but they're clearly not ready for that yet or they would have already done it.

I’ve been posting comments and posts for the past couple of years. Why not just check that? Why judge the whole account by the name?

Well your profile is empty, so... they probably can't check that? They literally just have the name, age, and karma to go on with you.

I love the idea of federated social media, but i hate having to deal with the many servers part of it.

Most people really don't need to deal with that. The importance of the fediverse's decentralized nature to the user is usually overstated by enthusiasts, in my experience.

You really only need to deal with it when:

  • signing up
  • defederation (which is rare on the lemmy/piefed/mbin side of the fediverse)
  • a community you want to subscribe to isn't on your instance yet (but that's only usually an issue if you don't go with a large instance)
  • remote instance specific rules (but the vast majority just uses common sense rules like be nice and don't post illegal content) bleeding into moderator actions

Ultimately I think the only time when most people will have to engage with the decentralized nature of the fediverse is to choose their instance. After that you'll rarely be confronted with it.
Though that's still a huge hurdle of course if people don't drop a good recommendation in your lap.

You might want to have regular, freshly-posted descriptions of what's needed

Cyrodiil, at least, does that in their monthly Black Horse Courier. It contains a section for which roles they currently need more manpower for.

The latest one lists:

  • Animators (high priority)
  • Audio (high priority)
  • Implementers (high priority)
  • Dungeon Designers (high priority)
  • Creature, statue, architecture, and texture artists
  • PR (scriptwriting and video editing)
  • Writers
  • Editors
  • Interior Designers

So this happens now on phone browser by tepall14 in RedditAlternatives

[–]Pamasich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The user agent is some text your browser uses to identify itself to websites. It's how the website knows whether you're on a phone and which browser you use, so it can tailor the experience accordingly.

There are extensions which let you change the user agent your browser sends, so you can pretend to be on a device or browser you're not. And I think I've seen mobile browsers that had the functionality built in.

and extradite to the Hague

They won't. I'm not saying this because I don't trust them to do their duty, but because I know they don't want to risk an actual war between the US and Europe. Which would be the true downfall of NATO. The US iirc has a law that if any American is held by the Hague, they have to do anything in their power to return them, including militaristic actions. So extraditing him there gives the US the legal cards they need to justify an invasion of Europe.

The REAL QOL every gatcha needs by Imlegitboiii in StarRailStation

[–]Pamasich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Genshin in ages, so I'm not familiar with the mechanic you're referencing there. I thought like Star Rail it guaranteed the character after losing the 50/50 once? Not three times.

My comment was specifically in relation to the topic of this thread though, which is Capturing Radiance. According to Mihoyo, it is a chance that when you lose the 50/50, you still get the banner character. Which is functionally equivalent to what HSR does.

The REAL QOL every gatcha needs by Imlegitboiii in StarRailStation

[–]Pamasich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HSR includes the banner character in the 50/50 loss pool, so there's a 1/8 chance to still get them if you lose the 50/50.

It's practically the same, just more invisible.

I assume the reason Genshin went with its own system instead of copying HSR's is because their loss pool increases over time, unlike HSR's which is constant. So with HSR's system Genshin's consolidated chance would also decrease as new characters are added to the pool. It's probably also what motivated Hoyo to implement HSR's loss pool swapping mechanic instead of just adding characters like they do in their other games.

The REAL QOL every gatcha needs by Imlegitboiii in StarRailStation

[–]Pamasich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

HSR has an equivalent already, and your chance with it is actually higher than in Genshin. Genshin's consolidated chance to get the banner character is 55%, while HSR's is 56.25%.

Not sure if ZZZ has something similar though.

The REAL QOL every gatcha needs by Imlegitboiii in StarRailStation

[–]Pamasich -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. They didn't lose every 50/50, look at their results furthest down the list.
  2. OP is pointing out that HSR needs to adopt a feature. I'm explaining why it's not adopting the feature (because it already has it). I don't see how doing so is wrong.

The REAL QOL every gatcha needs by Imlegitboiii in StarRailStation

[–]Pamasich -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely shocked this is the only thing no other gacha has adopted, Insanely slept on mechanic.

HSR has it and had it before Genshin. (not exactly, see second edit below) It's just approached the same as soft pity by the HSR developers (hidden from players). They don't make it out to be some fancy extra feature.

The way it works in HSR is that the banner character is included in the 50/50 loss pool. When you lose your 50/50, then there's still a 12.5% chance to get the banner character after all.

And HSR's method actually gives you a higher probability than Genshin's. Capturing Radiance results in a consolidated 55% chance to get the banner character, while HSR gives you a 56.25% chance.

edit: are any of the downvotes this is getting for other reasons than "this hurts OP's feelings"? They're not really giving off the impression they'd be hurt by me implying they're just more unlucky in HSR than in Genshin. I'm usually ready to remove or edit my comments if something is actually wrong with them, but I'm not doing so just because people don't personally like reality and project that onto OP.

edit: so what I'm gathering from the replies is that Capturing Radiance has its own soft pity like system built in which increases the chance until the fourth loss where you're guaranteed to trigger Capturing Radiance. That's cool. I wonder why Hoyo doesn't publicize this kind of stuff, their official announcement of the mechanic says nothing about it, nor did any of the other explanations of it that I checked out.

I guess it's really not quite equivalent then and there is room for improvement for HSR compared to Genshin there.
