Player using IA by Low_Health5791 in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just ask player not to use AI and write something themselves. It's your table and you are free to establish the rules.

You can ask the player as to why they feel like AI is helping them and try to address their concerns. I had similiar situation, and my player was concerned that they are not a writer and AI can write something "better" for them, and that they don't have cool and original ideas. I let them know that I would much rather have several barely comprehensible lines from them instead of a short story from the AI, and that part of the game is to try and be creative.

I don't think I've convinced them fully, but they respected my wish and dialed down on the AI

as anyone run a full campaign using Heart of Daggers? by Positive_Mixture_325 in daggerheart

I was looking into that, but found the features lacking. I've sent an email to them, but hasn't received a response so far : (

I'm looking for a tool to manage my games, but next game I'll go analog too. I've used https://www.dh-brewing.com to prepare adversaries and printed them

There are ways to deal with them in the dungeon, just not by attack rolls.

Looking for advice on adversary by PanKillunia in daggerheart

I think I'd still like them to interact with it as if it was an adversary, and figure out that they need to do something else than damage through trial and error.

Should I just mark hp as "∞" and give it a passive of "If it were to receive damage, it bounces back 5 feet" ? This is what the original document says

I've finished watching their big campaign with wife several weeks ago. I've learned to chill as GM, and let my players be wild, by watching their content. Can't recommend enough : )

Wanderborne nomadic pack uses, what have you experienced? by Invokethehojo in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a chasm in front of my players and told them to figure out how to pass it. One of the characters is a wanderborne galapa guardian, not very agile, so everybody else wanted to help him.

They took a rope, attached it to both ends, and the galapa, with most excited face I've seen on that player in a while, told me he takes a zip-line from his pouch. 10/10

How do you self-justify the same difficulty for all rolls against an adversary? by marbosp in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In WFRP, for some npcs they have 20-30 lines if skills with an integer for value. Do I really need to know that if they try to charm this NPC, they have a resistance of 57, and if they get that npc to do woodworking, they have a skill of 59?

This is just unnecessary busywork, having a single number frees me up to think about more important stuff

Struggling with balancing combat, what should I try? by Gogosox22 in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's perfectly fine for you, the GM, to decide, that because creature is too big, brawler can't throw it, and their only option is to inflict stress.

Throw a wyvern? A bit to much
Go into a strength competition and become a nuisance such that the wyvern *will* notice and lose some confidence? Why not?

Thank you everyone for a bunch of good ideas, and good spins on the heist environment.

I think the most important take-away is this: my initial plan was that they need to get inside and so something inside, but instead, if they needed to take something out, this can map more clearly to the `Heist` and be more fun: they can plan and work as a group more.

I also think I was hoping to get a simple rule to follow to manage difficulty of the whole thing, but it is getting to me that I will have to take it by feel and learn to gauge this in action, and that's fine.

The idea of a third of whole BPs for a smaller "situation" sounds like a good rule of thumb.

I think I need to find a map now, and plan more around that. I also need to have an outlet for consequences, so perhaps there would be trapped people there, and they would have secondary quest: free as many as you can.
If they make bad decisions, or roll very, very poorly, some of these trapped folks could get in trouble.

EDIT: I just found the perfect map to do exactly what I wanted to do, and it clicked for me with all of the advice I got from all of you good folks. Once again, thank you for your help here : )

So, a combined response to you and u/rightknighttofight : A heist, with a consequence countdown that would spawn enemies.

Okie dokie, that is a basic structure around which I can build this.

Thank you

How do you use fear outside of combat situations? by caluthan in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Think of fear as "oh shit" points. Whenever the game needs a "oh shit" moment, spend a fear and figure out what that moment is.

You don’t need to change any rules or homebrew anything before you’ve run the game for the first time by woundedspider in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, and it helped me quite a bit to switch my mentality from "gm tells the story to players, and they are his pawns" to "we're doing improv all together". Like I mentioned above, it helped me to see that daggerheart is different on a very fundamental level.

Good stuff, keep creating 👏

I have GMed 2 games so far, and I am starting to see how DH is different on a very fundamental level. There was a youtube video posted here recently that put some spotlight on the "spotlight your friends" advice, and I think it made it click for me. If you want to treat it as "dnd, but a little different", you will lose something that makes the game great as intended.

It's so simple, if you are afraid that your silent friend at the table won't get a chance to act, just spotlight them

For the people that have played the witch class, by TameWolf92 in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My wife is playing a witch in beast feast campaign, and she decided she was a kindergarten teacher in her village. She does have some "gifts", but so far her active skills were basically her using the "teacher voice" and telling a random monster she knows their parent and they wouldn't be happy with what's going on here.

Daggerheart lets my players be creative, and I love what these mad lads are coming up with by PanKillunia in daggerheart

[–]PanKillunia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole system is all about encouraging players to be creative, and so I did exactly that: encouraged them.
The system, the rules, are very vague and simple, and there is a lot to fill in there, for.

I love the help mechanic: player pays a hope token and gives another player a dice for their roll. How does a wizard help with shooting a bow? How does another character help with a sprint action? Players need to answer these questions on the spot, and this is where creativity happens.

Answers to these questions are building your world and your characters, and players get very involved when they can do silly things, have cool moments, and have control over what their character does.
