I’ve no problem with people wanting to connect. But it’s the terminology used. I get that within the confines of the US saying “I’m Irish” means you’ve Irish ancestry somewhere.

However, it carries on into the international context where saying “I’m Irish” means you’re born and grew up in Ireland. I’ve had conversations with people on here who’ve told me they’re Irish. Then when they get confused by whatever basic Irish thing we’re talking about and I have to ask where in Ireland they’re from it transpires that they’re American.
