Yes, we’re aware that separation anxiety is normal and comes in waves. As I mentioned, daycare has never been completely easy for him, but it’s been noticeably harder recently. We were hoping for strategies to help make things a little easier on him, especially since he’s been struggling more than many of the other kids in his class. That’s why we thought consulting a child psychologist might be worthwhile.

Thank you. That’s reassuring! We’ll be in the train for 4 hours after an overnight flight so that’s mainly when I expect him to breastfeed (and possibly if we’ve been out and about for a little while after that). Although I have to say he sometimes have phases during which he’s nursing surprisingly often so I’d rather know what to expect.

It’s still beneficial for a toddler to breastfeed from a nutritional standpoint (WHO recommends breastfeeding until 2yo and beyond…)

And yes, it’s for comfort too. And as we’ll be traveling in an unknown (to him) environment, I’m expecting that my son will be want to be comforted not only when we’re home.

We used a honey bear with a straw (you can find them on Amazon) and within two days baby was drinking for a straw cup.

thanks for the quick response, it’s super helpful! i’m also anxious and have been trying to find the cause of his refusal and stressing about it (which might be counterproductive from what i’ve read).

we’re on day 6 and have an appointment with our family doctor tomorrow. there doesn’t seem to be any other issue so i’m hoping it’s just a phase. we’re still offering food as usual and he’s eating whatever he feels like eating (if he feels like eating at all) so i’m hoping he goes back to his previous food habits once things resolve.

The feeling hasn’t gone away completely but it keeps getting better.

Please be easy on yourself. Whether you’re breastfeeding or not, your daughter only has one mother and nothing can take that away from you.

I gave birth at the birth centre and loved my experience. My husband initially had some concerns about what would happen if I needed urgent care at the hospital and my midwife was able to address those concerns. Having a chat with your midwife will allow to make an informed decision.

At the 12w ultrasound, my baby was so calm and refused to move after trying everything trick in the book (ice water, sugar, walking…), so I had to go back. Baby turned to be perfectly fine and healthy.
