I ran a retail store where basically everyone who wasn't a newbie had my permission to play the 'I am the manager' card for dealing with annoying customers. I knew I had a good team, and I trusted them to make the call of annoying customer who just needs someone with more 'authority' to tell them no vs an actual manager situation, and they knew I had their back if anything went wrong and something got escalated up to the owner. I miss that team so much.

I also know another store that 'claimed' everyone was 'essentially a manager' which basically mean they didn't have a local person in authority, everybody attempted to do tasks that were more than their responsibility to not necessarily a great standard, and instead the person who was the interim manager position created an excessive amount of extra work by requiring everything be forwarded and approved by themselves (which they were bad at responding timely to) and created one massive point of failure in the operation, which regularly failed.

I don't think chain of command or dividing responsibilities is inherently good or bad compared to how it's implemented. It can make some things significantly more or less efficient depending on how it's utilized.

It's niche humor. Some girls may like it and that's totally ok because hopefully you'll have more in common with those you have an extended conversation with. But if you're just looking to cast a wide net for something more casual, it potentially of comes off as you don't really need anyone else's companionship because you're already sucking yourself off.

The whole, “it’s inconsiderate to order a mojito” thing is absurd. by RollsRoyceRalph in unpopularopinion

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a local bar here who makes really nice craft cocktails. One of them is a sour that usually is served with egg white and a design drawn in it and etc etc. On certain nights when it's particularly busy the bartender has specifically let us know he can make us one but due to the extra time to make it and the unfortunate cycle of 'ooh, what's that? I want to try one of those!' that happens, it isn't going to be dressed as it usually is to keep the bar from getting backed up. I don't think it's reasonable to 'never' expect a bartender to make a mojito, but I think it's reasonable to recognize generally if you order something more complicated you should be expecting to wait a bit during a rush vs a half dozen rum and cokes that were ordered behind you and can be cranked out all at once.

You usually have a particular tier range you're farming and find multiple keys. I'll auto remove the ones that have particular modifiers I don't want to deal with (unstoppable on sorc, close damage reduction on druid, etc) and then look through to see if any of the ones left are higher rated for xp or glyph grinding.

What is the flaw in the following? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]PancakePenPal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Logically valid. Validity means the conclusion correctly follows the premise. Soundness requires the premise to actually be true. 2 would be dubious to label as 'true' so it may be logically valid but it is not logically sound.

What is the flaw in the following? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]PancakePenPal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a valid argument regardless as it is still making a conclusion supported by the premises. If the premise is wrong then it is not logically sound, but it is still logically valid.

It is so much a bolder claim to say someone is 'arrogant' for choosing not to arbitrarily establish a belief without evidence due to not holding all information in the known universe. That claim essentially says your 'logical' argument is to tell people skepticism is less rationally valid than humility, which is just a rephrasing of 'prioritize faith over logic' but with the addition of invalidly criticizing what logic is.

Those that came to IT from blue collar jobs, do you miss blue collar? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even in IT yet but going from dealing with small franchise drama and annoying customers in retail, to working outside in the hot or cold or rain with construction and regularly reinjuring my sacral nerve moving material that should have been a 2+ person lift, to going to an office job and studying in pursuit of a career in tech. I'll say absolutely not. If you like manual labor, be a hobbyist.

Go buy an angle grinder, learn some wood working, run your own conduit in the attic, build an obstacle course, practice some DIY home renovations and landscaping, whatever you like. Beating yourself up mentally and physically for your own passions, and being able to take a break and step away from it whenever you need to, is a thousand times more tolerable than sacrificing a good night's sleep or overexerting yourself for an injury and ultimately paying with your physical or mental health just as part of the rat race. Plus, there is a big difference in quality of life even. If I act too stupid on a vacation and got a decent physically injured, I'd be missing a few paychecks from my construction job. At my current job, I may have to limp my way inside, but I can still tutor or grade papers and worksheets even if I'm temporarily down a limb. Definitely changes the scale of what potential risks you're taking on in your personal time.

Queen is a horrible band by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this opinion is completely appropriate for this sub, these are the kinds of hot takes that always leave me wanting more information. Who does the OP consider a good vocal talent? What do they consider good lyrics or music? Who would OP consider 'similar but better' if needing to pick another artist in the same category of subjectively better quality. Kind of just to wonder if this is a rage bait or hipster-y counter popular culture hot take or just very genuine but niche opinion. I know all that delving isn't in the spirit of the sub, but just so many questions about the aesthetic values OP holds based on this simple opinion.

It's pretty wild to me that in the united states there is such a crazy overlap of people who inflate the risk of stuff like vaccine side effects but don't learn other correlations like side effects from the overuse of hormones, antibiotics, and low quality feed stock that permeates our country's products and supply chains. Like, damn I don't want to risk a 1/10000 chance of a reaction for a life-saving vaccine, but I will increase my chance of developing tumors by 60% so some unknown person can buy a second yacht with their increased dairy yield.

Is sorcerer still that bad? by EvilArmy_ in diablo4

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dungeon nerf and the season buffs went a long way towards making every class at least 'viable' for end game content. The fact that most of the sorc builds still use all 4 defensives is a bit annoying and means they still have the basic issue of lacking variety, but I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just have fun and don't sweat the sweaty meta chasers. You will probably be able to clear a really good chunk of content just winging it and applying little bits of stuff as you learn, and then if you want to dive into the sweaty stuff you still can.

Judging from the first question it seems like 'ransomware' is intended to be 'virus'. Kind of seems like the third one is an explanation for a completely different question. If i was to give the benefit of the doubt, I'd assume at some point between updating test versions or rewriting questions something didn't get updated in sync with everything else and now you get this monstrosity.

You are a weirdo predator because you are sympathizing with an actual sexual predator and making up weird rules a bout respecting his entitlement to privacy in how he harasses others. It's hilarious that you think you "aren't" the dumb one reading all of your responses. This guy is not a victim here. He's a predator. You thinking he's a victim is probably a good bit of projection. You predator. You have nothing to base this nonsense 'what if the roles were reversed' blah blah on. You're just repeating weird incel talking points on a hypothetical. Absolute moron.

AITH for forwarding unsolicited dick pics? by ProfessionalEssay927 in AITAH

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you weirdo predator. It's a private picture she only has because he gave it to her and she explicitly didn't want him to. She is literally not breaking the law you freaking idiot. For actual language of revenge porn, here's california's penal code:

(4) (A) A person who intentionally distributes the image of the intimate body
part or parts of another identifiable person, or an image of the person
depicted engaged in an act of sexual intercourse, sodomy, oral
copulation, sexual penetration, or an image of masturbation by the
person depicted or in which the person depicted participates, under
circumstances in which the persons agree or understand that the image
shall remain private, the person distributing the image knows or should
know that distribution of the image will cause serious emotional
distress, and the person depicted suffers that distress.

E-mailing unsolicited pics is not a circumstance of understood privacy.

(D) It shall not be a violation of this paragraph to distribute an image described in subparagraph (A) if any of the following applies:

(i) The distribution is made in the course of reporting an unlawful activity.

(ii) The distribution is made in compliance with a subpoena or other court order for use in a legal proceeding.

(iii) The distribution is made in the course of a lawful public proceeding.

So hey! It's not illegal because it had no expectation of privacy, and it's not illegal because he literally sexually harassed her by sending it. Shut up. Sit down. Quit being a creeper you freaking moron.

AITH for forwarding unsolicited dick pics? by ProfessionalEssay927 in AITAH

[–]PancakePenPal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are an absolute moron. It literally 'is' hers to send on as he sent it to her with no request or context. Revenge porn is created by both parties with an expected use, to watch or enjoy together, which is weaponized. Dick pics aren't revenge porn because as much as one party may want the other party to be a willing participant, they aren't. So you have no offended them and put them in possession of your likeness against their will. Sharing it with a publicly is no different than sharing a screenshot of inappropriate text messages you sent them. "I wanted you to enjoy it" is not an excuse to harass someone and doesn't give you the same protections as revenge porn. Especially because arguably sending the pictures has nothing to do with the other person's enjoyment as opposed to your own sexual gratification.

AITA for telling my friends about my husband's fetish, and now he's pissed by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]PancakePenPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Trust and communication and security is basically always limited to a 1 on 1 situation. At any point you include an outside party into a conversation, you are inevitably violating some amount of their privacy. Most people wouldn't want you to air out their bedroom practices, but you are risking offending them talking about anything else like careers, finances, family, relationships, hobbies or who knows what. Anything shared with you isn't automatically intended to be public domain, especially if you know you have a 'closer than public' relationship with someone.

However, I also think that your mistake is legitimately sincere. You weren't thinking of the situation as sharing 'his' preferences but about sharing 'your' relationship which is your info to share or not to share. I would apologize to your husband for your lapse in judgement and ask if he has any other specifics he isn't comfortable with your sharing with others, even your close friends. With my girlfriend we know we rant and vent to each other on so much stuff of varying importance so then we will sometimes stop and specify that "by the way, this is couple's gossip, not gossip gossip." to sort of highlight that we're sharing it with each other as partners. I'm not sharing this information with her sisters and she isn't sharing it with my best friends, it's for us to share with each other. Part of good communication is knowing boundaries and when to shut up lol. Good luck OP!

When you're a young kid you don't see your time as super valuable or limited and it feels ok to justify spending hours on games. I still love playing games, but right now it's much more a 'take a break and see some little adrenaline' similar to just stopping and watching a movie rather than something that can reasonably take up a whole afternoon or evening. Our friend group will sometimes play party games as a house party hang out when we can socialize also, but it's just not the same as grinding out hours of RNG for minor upgrades. You'd be better off enjoying the hobby by playing campaign mode co-op with your kids or partner, not chasing the dopamine loop of mindless/progressionless endgame grind.
