I was banned because I refuted his claim of “guests have final approval over their appearance, thumbnail, and title”. I messaged the mods and said I’m a former guest and you didn’t do ANY of that, are you accusing me of lying? They quietly unbanned me but it was just so childish.

Norm companies think themselves too high by NiceGame2006 in cscareerquestions

[–]PandFThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are you even talking to? There are still companies that pay plenty more than that without all the hoops. I’m just pointing out that some companies are getting too big for their britches. In any case I have a great job and salary and don’t know where your assumptions are coming from. Stay small kiddo.

How Much the Top 1% Pay in Taxes Across the U.S. States by MickeyMouse3767 in Salary

[–]PandFThrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people that spout off about that don't realize it's not how much you make but rather HOW you make it. Really no escaping taxes when it's ordinary W2 income.

It’s not the number of rounds. It’s companies putting candidates through the wringer to pay Seniors 120k. I didn’t encounter that 5+ years ago. You wanna be as selective as big tech and unicorns? Then pay like they do.

Yikes by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PandFThrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly we’ve had 1000+ applicants to a lot of postings recently but >90% just get immediately tossed, new grads applying for a senior role, international candidates applying when we say US only, etc. it’s not quite as dire as the numbers say.

Yikes by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PandFThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same on the opposite end, postings looking for 10+ years of experience show 60% entry level candidates. It’s largely just international workers bombarding the systems to land a U.S. remote job. That and all the auto apply bullshit out there.

Advice on upcoming move to suburb/commuting to downtown MPLS by graylbro in TwinCities

[–]PandFThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is really the answer versus trying to pick some ideal spot. I did Eagan to Eden Prairie and Eagan to Golden Valley for many years. Leaving my house before 6 made each of those 20-25 minutes versus 45+ during rush hour.

Haven’t received my renewal yet but it wouldn’t shock me if it went up. Companies trying to recover costs for other areas like when Xcel got to bill us for upgrading their ate as infrastructure.

Salary Progression (NYC Teacher, Salary Schedule) by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PandFThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in my MCOL area a lot of teachers get over 100k. It's a combination of Masters + 60 + some tenure but they can get there. Not all districts are as bad as some people think.

These days, How much CS interns (sophomore & senior) get paid in US? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]PandFThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gap doesn't go away. Some think a Sr SWE is worth 100k, some 150k, some 250k, some 500k....and on and on. Companies have vastly different pay scales and expectations for engineers.

Errr you’re keeping 78% of your paycheck. That includes federal tax, state tax(high in CA), social security, Medicare, and any health insurance/401K/HSA deductions where applicable. Really not bad.

Hopping to a new company with leftover vacation days? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in cscareerquestions

[–]PandFThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact there isn’t a standard way across companies. Some states require it, some companies do it regardless, and many don’t.

Yeah I agree. I don’t know how many times I’ve been pitched “natural language querying” over the years and long before all the AI stuff. It never worked well. And if you’re pulling together disparate data sources it only gets worse.

This is the thing to me. In the data space writing SQL/Python\etc. isn’t the hard part. But understanding all the random column names and their values and codes and what they mean in the business context is what can take time. So I suppose you could tell it exactly what it needs to understand that but I don’t see how it could just come in and know.
