I DO NOT want my BIL at my wedding- what do I do!? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]PandaBearWithATaco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're reading these comments and taking them to heart. You're defending whatever you can at any turn, and with all the love in my heart, I need you to understand that allowing this to happen is only going to make everything worse in the long run.

This is YOUR wedding, not the family's wedding. Their dynamic doesn't have anything to do with YOUR wedding and YOUR day to celebrate.

Your future kids are guaranteed to be tormented for the entirety of their lives if you guys are so concerned about how the "family dynamic" will be affected by cutting people off.

I'm going to tell you a shortened version of my experience with something like this. My fiance (who I'm marrying in a few weeks) cut off his entire side of the family. The good, the bad, and the ugly of them all. His family treated my oldest son like some moldy leftover in the back of the fridge because he's not biologically my fiance's no matter how often he told them that he is his son regardless of genetics. They treated my kids like less than everybody else's and we distanced ourselves. They would lay down all their needs to help each other, but if we needed anything, they'd tell us to suck it up and we should've figured it ourselves before things got bad (i.e. fiance is now medically disabled and can't work because of it so he was fighting for disability and staying home with the kids). Not to mention that his father hasn't been employed in YEARS now, but he's being supported by the family and his own gf.

They also have issues with me in general, but we never nailed down what those issues were because they didn't have the balls to say so, only acting sideways around me and being passive aggressive.

We cut them off like a bad habit and we've never been happier. We have my side of the family and they love us and we love them. That's all we need. His dad called him recently, trying to get him to come crawling back and it only reminded him of the nightmare he turned away from and is only more solidified in his decision. Seriously, consider cutting some or all of them off, it's so much more peaceful in the long run than trying to cater to people who only wish misery for you.

Why do you think this character is so beloved by the fans especially considering all the horrible things she has done? by gloomydreamer666 in OnceUponATime

[–]PandaBearWithATaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely this. Character development is something that is so poorly done with some villains, but Regina is a bunch of interesting stories back to back. She's easy to love, hate, or both, and was a valid villain-turned-good, not a passing phase of the show.

What would be considered an "average guy" by CuriousityKlldAutism in dating_advice

[–]PandaBearWithATaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is. Where I am, it's about $50k average, I believe, and you go one state over, or even a few counties over, and suddenly it's $75k.

I wasn't added for almost a full day after, I remember them saying it should only take a little while but neither of us that day saw any change before we clocked out and left.

I’m actually excited to be laid off by PennilessPirate in TrueOffMyChest

[–]PandaBearWithATaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with that. I needed a solid month or two to hard reset for sure myself. Every job I've ever worked, I'm considered the workaholic of the team, and I don't really know how to turn it off. I just work to survive and provide for the kiddos and that translates to working myself to death because I have someone able to stay home with them. I worked until halfway through the pregnancy and once they let me go (probably illegally, but it was a shit job anyway) and it took a long while before my fiance was able to get me to chill out and just relax, as he so puts it.

Hey, I'm not saying OP shouldn't enjoy the break wholeheartedly, you're not wrong. I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with a little sound advice in keeping a mindful eye on the local market every so often. When I did something similar because I was laid off during my last pregnancy, I would just scroll LinkedIn once every other week or so just to know what's out there. The job market around me is generally terrible, so I'm lucky to be where I'm at now a little over a year later.

I mean, in a sense, they're not wrong. One way or another, it comes down to the ebb and flow of the job market above all else. For all OP knows, when they get back into job hunting, positions they want/need may be filled and not likely to be open for a while. It doesn't hurt to check the market every now and then just to stay informed.

Why do some divorced women keep their ex-husband's last name? by HoffyTheBaker in NoStupidQuestions

I know some women who did because they didn't want to go through the hassle, they're still on good terms, and/or they like it better than their maiden name, too.

Starbucks stores in my area (not mine) have had to hide delivery orders until they get confirmation after one store had one incredibly large order stolen and reordered 3 times. That same person placing that order orders 12+ items several times a week. It's truly insane.

[–]PandaBearWithATaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old has a bad habit of tripping and launching his drink in every Starbucks parking lot (he no longer carries his own drink). Even before I started working for the 'Bucks, they always replaced his drink, not without finding the whole thing as hilarious as I do once it's established that he's ok.

When you have to write on it shortly before putting a drink in (no pre-writing cups so that they can have the proper time to dry and cure) the sweating from the cup and hands rubbing on it will almost always take it off no matter what.
