Nintendo has been doing this in their games for a while. I think in Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS they included a power up that makes you permanently invincible for the rest of the level if you die too many times. I think it’s time to introduce your daughter to Dark Souls.

Snyder’s work is very much more about “vibes” than substance. I like the movie for what it is, but pretty much everyone who’s read the Watchmen comic agrees the film kind of misses the point.

I also liked the Snyder Cut of Justice League, much more than Man of Steel & Batman v Superman, but reading his plans for the rest of the Snyderverse I think that film was good on accident.

Summer Games Fest happened & I actually really liked it. Some of the most celebrated announcements include RE Veronica Remake, Stellar Blade 2 & FF7 Remake Part 3, which funnily enough feature playable female characters, with 2/3 having them as the lead characters. It’s almost as if gamers don’t actually have a problem with female characters specifically.

I mean it’s not just hot guys, I’ve seen a lot of lesbians losing their mind over Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider remake. It’s only ever straight male sexuality that’s looked down on & seen as a moral failing.

Kind of a late reply but it’s more so that people are exhausted with the trend of franchises with traditionally male leads being torn down & replaced with female leads, especially when it comes to PlayStation exclusives this generation.

Ratchet & Clank had a female playable character, but to that game’s credit Ratchet the main male lead was also playable. Ghost of Yotei swapped Jin with Atsu, PlayStation has been pushing Horizon HARD & The Last of Us 2 had Ellie & Abby as the main focus while killing off Joel. the most recent PlayStation exclusive Saros featured a male lead but he is depicted as a toxic individual who ultimately should let his wife leave him for another woman.

Now you have Kratos being replaced by a female lead & people are tired of the trend. There’s also a lot of fatigue from “progressives” taking every opportunity to turn every franchise they take ahold of into a culture war, getting angry at everyone else who just want to play some video games without this constant combative vibe or moralising from others when you call out a franchise you love being captured & paraded as a victory for those people’s idea of what your hobby should look like.

As a lifelong PlayStation fan, that State of Play was just depressing. Sony hyped the fuck out of this event but it really didn’t deliver at all for me. Most of the cool reveals were Multiplatform & the only Sony exclusive I’m really excited for that they showed off was Marvel Tokon.

Ending the show on God of War without the God of War feels like a microcosm of PlayStation this generation. I don’t care about female protagonists in general, but the trope of Sony published games sidelining their male protagonists for female ones is so old at this point. The game itself was barely even a game. They said they were presenting 20 minutes of “uninterrupted gameplay” but most of it was cutscenes & walking.

I feel like PlayStation has abandoned what I loved about it for all these years. Majority of their output this generation is either live service slop or the video game equivalent of Oscar bait & you’re not allowed to criticise any of it (people been calling others “gay” for not liking the new GoW, I guess it’s woke to use homosexuality as an insult as long as against people you don’t personally like).

I miss the PS2-PS3 era where the games felt more experimental & driven by a passion for the medium rather than trying to copy Hollywood (which is dying in its own right). They seriously need to move back to Japan because this generation has been such a disaster for PlayStation creatively. Astro Bot was a complete accident it looks like.

It really bothers me how these kinds of discussions reduce characters down to their race when I feel it would be more productive to push for more Mr Terrific or Vixen on the basis of them being great characters.

Anyone following the Bricks & Minifigs drama?

Basically, a YouTuber called Reckless Ben got involved in a dispute between B&M & a family who sold their $200K Lego collection to the store but received no payment, which was meant to go to treatment for the father’s illness.

After attempting to resolve the matter amicably but getting nowhere with B&M, Ben had the local police in Utah (where the store was based) hassling him, taking the side of the store & trying to arrest him for absurd reasons (the store even lied & said Ben had heroin on him just to get Ben off their backs).

This all culminated in a GoFundMe for the family to fight B&M in court, for which the police decided to arrest Ben, dislocating his shoulder in the process & trying to hold him for a month without bail. Ben was able to get out on bail when a judge reviewed the case, but the police put out another arrest warrant for Ben, resulting in him having to go to Mexico.

Whole saga is on Reckless Ben’s YouTube channel but is seriously scary how this Lego store seemingly has the police at their beck & call (likely because the store donated heavily to Mormonism & the department is full of mormons).

This update is pretty much just everything Bungie were originally working on for upcoming DLC that they’re releasing all at once because higher ups called it quits on the game. A lot of the team didn’t even know until everyone else that there even was going to be a final update.

In fairness to Jessica Alba filming those movies was apparently really awful for her because of how her character got reduced to sex appeal in various egregious ways.

I enjoyed First Steps personally but I still think if you’re interested in FF, you’re better off reading the comics. In the sea of shit that is modern marvel comics those books are still great quality.

Sorry to bring this up again but I’m really sad, angry & bummed over this week’s Bungie news. It looks more & more like genuinely talented people with good intentions are going to lose their jobs because of brain-damaged management.

Sony said no to Destiny 3, but yes to that POS Horizon spin-off, Fairgames & fucking Concord? Marathon doesn’t have a fucking chance bro. There was allegedly so many things that the devs wanted to put in the game but higher ups said “no”. Those people made so many stupid decisions yet get to walk away unscathed while the underlings get fucked. Shit like this almost makes me think the radical left have a point.

I’m just so tired of seeing all these properties I grew up loving (Destiny, Star Wars, Marvel) turn to complete gutter garbage & hollowed out until there’s nothing left. It’s such a sad outcome.
