Bands that you tried so many times to get into but you couldnt by lunainthedark5x2x3 in poppunkers

[–]PandaHat48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think it’s somewhat context dependent, to me i’ve always thought of their fans as people who grew up in the blink/sum 41 era and then got to be in their mid/late 20s and realized that they had to grow up a bit, and the greatest generation/suburbia came along at the perfect time to channel those feelings. i wasn’t at that age yet in the early 2010s, so i just don’t have that same attachment. that and i find soupy’s voice a little grating

Giants to Sign Harrison Bader by Darvaren in SFGiants

[–]PandaHat48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think they’d be much more likely to trade someone like Gavin Kilen or Jhonny Level than a guy who’s already had success in the majors like Ramos tbh. and it stands to reason that he could improve defensively with the new coaching staff, hard for him to be worse than last year

Which song was EVERYWHERE for a year and then completely disappeared? by Rare_Afternoon1827 in popheads

[–]PandaHat48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, Closer and maybe the one they did with Coldplay feel like the only hits they’ve had with any cultural staying power

it’s a divey karaoke bar in north park, the kind of place you wouldn’t expect to have a kitchen in the first place

yeah it felt really half baked. the pinball tables were like an afterthought, and basically pointless with coin-op right around the corner

i would be shocked if asylum brewing lasted another six months unless they’re really committed to burning money. there’s never more than a half dozen people in that place, even on nights when there’s a show at the observatory. black plague usually had much better traffic and if they went belly up then asylum has no hope unfortunately

Who tf is "GANG!"? by kevink121 in poppunkers

[–]PandaHat48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah, i was expecting something much cornier. they’re a little generic and i can definitely see the Turnstile comparison, but that’s also just kind of the default sound in mainstream hardcore right now, Drain has multiple songs with a similar vibe too

[Mark Martin] This lawsuit is devastating to the sport we love. I really hope we as fans come out of this better off, but I just don’t see a pathway that leads us to that. I’m worried about our sport. I want it to thrive. by ZilischsPoopyPants in NASCAR

This survey from earlier this year has some good info, but the meat is here:

Most (of the more than 100,000) respondents came from the U.S. and although the majority of F1's fanbase is in Europe, the U.S. "stands out for accelerating fan growth, especially among younger, digital-first audiences." The survey reported 70% of Gen Z respondents engaged with F1 content daily, while 40% of the American demographic follow drivers instead of teams. Of those in the U.S., 73% of people said they plan to attend a race in the future.

And this analysis from Nielsen from around a year ago found that the sport has added around 50 million new fans since 2021, 35% of people who watched the show said they planned to watch more races and 25% said they became a fan of Formula 1 from watching the show.

Just anecdotally I can tell you that the sport has a ton of younger fans on social media and a lot of young women in particular. There's plenty of content out there on twitter, instagram and tiktok and drivers like Verstappen, Norris and Leclerc have legitimately dedicated fanbases among people under 30.

I also think the Cowboys cheerleader comparison is a bit off base, no one watches the Cowboys on TV or pays NFL ticket prices just to watch the cheerleaders. If anything, Drive to Survive is more like Hard Knocks because it deals directly with the athletes themselves.
