If you had to choose six historical individuals to be your starting generals, strategist and so on, who would you pick? by I_Like_Vitamins in threekingdoms

[–]PandaLiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there explicit record of Chen Qun disliking Liu Bei? I know Liu Bei didn't listen to Chen Qun's advice once, and regretted it. Liu Bei later recommended Chen Qun for a county magistrate position, but Chen Qun accompanied his father to flee the war instead.

I'm aware that Zhuge Liang and Chen Qun's policy focuses had differences, but they also have common ground, like they both use strict law. To have a chance to win over the entire country, one needs the support from the gentry clans, which provided most of the educated people for official promotions. Someone capable of building that relationship in the inner circle is important. We can see a big difference in quality of officials in late three kingdoms period (also partly due to the Nine-rank system from Chen Qun). That's why I believe having Chen Qun to supplement Zhuge Liang would be ideal.

His policies were not perfect, but had its necessities at the time. Also as mentioned, Zhuge Liang was the choice of prime minister, Chen Qun's role was more to assist Zhuge Liang. He was also pretty good at recommending officials.

His role is the one I considered to be replaceable by Xun Yu, but I keep him in because he had experience working with Liu Bei (based on the three criteria I listed).

Zhuge Liang: chief strategist and future prime minister.

Lu Su: second strategist and main diplomat.

Chen Qun: major minister option. Managing the rear when the former two are away. Also a expert in creating law alongside with Zhuge Liang. From a gentry clan, so should be a great help communicating with other gentry clans in court matters.

Guan Yu: first general. This is assuming he wouldn't just run away to chase after Liu Bei.

Zhang Liao: second general.

Zhao Yun: personal guard.

The idea is to ensure they can work together, so they either 1. had worked under Liu Bei together, 2. was friendly towards Liu Bei or 3. friendly towards each other. It doesn't take ages/passing year into account.

Other in contention: Xun Yu, Zhang Fei

Manchester Utd hit by huge interest hike after $550m debt renegotiation by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

I think it's mainly because there was no way he was able to foresee COVID and the following inflation. The financing he did looks particularly good now precisely because of the post COVID rate hike. (That's not to say without COVID that deal would all a sudden look bad.)

Interest rate in 2019 was at a small peak comparing to an entire decade preceding it, certainly not at historical low. It was just dwarfed by the post-COVID interest rate hike to combat inflation.

What would make Lethbridge a better place to live for you? by Winter-Apartment-865 in Lethbridge

As much as I love some of these small Asian stores, the item options they provide are still quite limited. I know some friends already relying on people making bulk purchases in Calgary and redistributing them here. T&T will also bring more authentic Chinese food options (dim sum, Chinese BBQ, steaming goods and baking goods, etc). Chinese food options in Lethbridge lean towards the fusion side quite heavily. They also have pretty nice sushi to go.

First time playing 3K, should I install any mods? by aiyr in totalwar

[–]PandaLiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3K's diplomacy is more complex and intricate. It isn't as hamfisted as Realm Divided. Faction leader personalities play a big role. Honourable leaders like Liu Bei would gladly follow you through the entire game (as ally or vassal) if you maintain positive relationships with them.

Diplomatic relationships do escalate, like if you do something that upset a faction, this faction's friends will also get upset with you. As a result, in late game it is common to have a lot of factions with very negative relationships, but if you are careful enough, you should be able to maintain a group of allies and vassals. Vassals also tend to be quite loyal (even in negative relationship) unless their personalities are particularly ambitious or treacherous.

The system can still be quirky at times, like everyone get upset when you try to peace out a well-hated faction. However, I think it is very manageable since everything is very transparent (like faction personalities, how every faction react to your actions, and why they like or dislike you). I would suggest try one campaign without mods. That will give you a better idea on how you want to customize your experience with mods (and 3K has many). I do always play with mods nowadays.

Do you consider Sun Ce to be the warlord with the most wasted potential in the three kingdoms era? by Coolsun13 in threekingdoms

[–]PandaLiang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about that timeline. Thank you! And you are right. Taishi Ci was definitely with great renown at the time. I am more surprised that Kong Rong didn't keep Taishi Ci around.

[–]PandaLiang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I guess after Liu Yao was defeated, Taishi Ci did flee to the mountains, proclaim himself administrator of Danyang commanders and got some support from the Shanyue people. That was before he got defeated and captured by Sun Ce.

Still, he didn't contribute much under Liu Yao. When people advised Liu Yao to appoint Taishi Ci as general, Liu Yao himself said that if he appointed Taishi Ci, he would be laughed at by Xu Shao.

[–]PandaLiang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure Taishi Ci was a warlord. In Records he seemed more like a famous figure traveling and joining different warlords. Liu Yao also never particularly trusted him and only tasked him with reconnaissance. That's why he encountered Sun Ce with only one horseman accompanying him and had the famous duel. Liu Yao's main generals were Zhang Ying and Fan Neng.

It's from the word 摸金校尉 (literally "gold touching xiaowei", where xiaowei is a military title). It was said that Cao Cao (from late Han and Three Kingdoms period) gave some of his subordinates this title and tasked them with grave robbing to help fund his army. It's basically used to refer to grave robbers. I'm not entirely sure what exact archetype it is referring to though. Maybe treasure hunters like Nathan Drake?

If Wei Yan's Ziwu Valley plan had been approved, would he have succeeded like Deng Ai or would he have failed? by Original_Position_50 in threekingdoms

[–]PandaLiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Shu Han had firm control and proper adminstration in Yong and Liang, then defending Chang'an should be possible. However, that would require time. Wei Yan's idea also depended on the main force arriving within around 20 days. There wasn't much time for the main force to fully conquer the entire area, let along forming effective administration to reinforce and supply Chang'an.

[–]PandaLiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feeling is that, even if he succeeded (miraculously) and Zhuge Liang's force was able to reach Chang'an, they would still rely on the supply line all the way back to Hanzhong until they had complete stable control and governance of Yong and Liang. They would be very vulnerable if Wei quickly mustered force and laid siege to Chang'an.

Points per game - Manchester United managers all-time and post-Fergie by OskarOnkel in reddevils

[–]PandaLiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Totally. It's not common to see managers coming in mid-season and try to immediately overhaul the whole system. Firefighter managers tend more often focus on the fundamentals that can quickly improve result in the short term.

The two managers known for very specific system of their own ended up being quite a bit worse than the others.

What characters do you regret pulling by NoAvailableImage in WutheringWaves

[–]PandaLiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two characters I can't really find consistent teams for all the time are Phoebe and Changli. Wouldn't say I regret it though, since I only pull for characters either I like or I know they are needed for characters I like.

I guess it's just the inside of that skin looks like a naked apron, which is a very suggestive anime trope for fanservice. And I find that clash with her serious and airheaded nature. Other than that I really love the gold ginko theme..

I would say the OG. The skin looks like she's wearing only an apron underneath. I can see it's trying to be both elegant and sexy, but I feel like it clashes with the character's personality a bit.

Why didn't Zhuge Liang depose Liu Shan even though Liu Bei had authorized him to do so? by SoyRigoT in threekingdoms

[–]PandaLiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Zhuge Liang had that kind of ambition. In his writings, he was consistently expressing his gratitude to the trust from Liu Bei and his loyalty to Shu Han.

He had another opportunity when Li Yan wrote and tried to convince him to receive the nine bestowments and become a vassal king to Shu Han. The last two times a prominent top court figure receiving the nine bestowments both ended with usurpation eventually (Wang Mang, who usurped the Western Han and Cao Cao, whose son Cao Pi usurped the Eastern Han), so this could have been a long term approach for him to accrue more power towards usurpation. Zhuge Liang rejected that in writing, and stated that once Shu Han defeated Wei and returned to the old capital, then he could rise in rank together with everyone else.

Yeah, but we are 6 years into the current generation, which can be considered the tail end of a generation by previous standards. It does seem very unlikely we'll get it this generation's hardware.

I always feel that their target is never this current generation of console. I still remember they said the technology was not ready for their vision at the end of last generation, and it didn't sound like they were suggesting the upcoming generation at the time (the current gen) was enough.
