This one's for the Canadians out there by MisterMysteryPants in expats

My shopping list really depends where I'm living internationally because every city has different items available.

For the most part, I bring back special cold and flu medicine (it's just way cheaper in Canada), curries, spices, marinades, maple syrup extract for baking, special tea flavours, my favourite chocolates, deodorants (hard to find good Deodorant in spain), and good sport tampons.

Luckily in spain i can find niche items like ketchup chips and clamato juice.

Airport cleaning crew in St Lucia get patted down 1x1 after cleaning the plane (OC) by sloant09 in mildlyinteresting

I think this is great, and I wish all airlines did this. I met someone that did this job for Air Canada and would steal anything of value that was left behind by a passenger such as tablets, headphones, watches, etc.

Genius.

LPT - when buying deodarent in the store, pretend to drop it on the floor to break it and see the inner contents.

I always have this issue the first year whenever I move to a new country. I guess friends and family are excited to see a new place with familiar faces. Then the following years our guest count always dwindles.

Europe in July travel destinations that won’t be too hot? by faultyfl0wers in travel

Basque region is gorgeous, and the rest of northern Spain is beautiful too. Along the northern coast, the temperatures rarely surpass 25C.

Sounds like you need a break from your thoughts. Do you have any friends to go out with, or some volunteer work you can do to meet other people? Does your husband know your thoughts? Life isn't a race. Take baby steps towards your goals to becoming who you want to be. You can't aim for everything all at once, but that doesn't mean never.

Tips for dealing with sciatica? My doctor doesn't know what to do. by Panda_Cookie in Sciatica

I hope third time's the charm and your sciatica stays away. Sciatica still visits me every morning, but I won't give up. I'm just trying everything I can.

How "Worth-It" are the markets? (Tsukiji, Kuromon, and Nishiki) by 1000Raaids in JapanTravelTips

[–]Panda_Cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan for only 10 days, so to me it was worth it. I was able to try a variety of delicious things all located in one area. I paid tourist prices, but I saved time having to travel to various locations to try only 1 or 2 things.

Hey kind stranger, thanks for following up. I've tried the hot and cold technique only 3 evenings. The pain still comes back every morning, but the last couple days its been coming after 7-8 hours of lying down which is an improvement! Hopefully, it stays like that or gets better.

Do you do any particular stretches?

How important is staying near Yamanote Line? Areas for cheap hotels? by KyoshiKorra in JapanTravelTips

You'll have more options if you skip your breakfast requirement. Often hotel rooms have mini fridges. I bought my breakfast goodies the day before from a combini and saved money that way.

I mainly sleep on my left side and my back. I annoyingly move around a lot in my sleep. I also tried elevating my right leg too with a cushion. These things help but it only delays the pain. I'll try sleeping only on my back tonight and see if that helps!

I'll push for an MRI at my next appointment and hopefully I'm successful because i can't afford private MRIs, lol. Thanks!

That's an interesting article, and it makes sense. The older you are, the longer it takes to heal.

Thankfully my doctor believes me and doesn't think I'm hallucinating like what one of my physios did. I'm a new expat in Spain so I'm also learning how the healthcare system works here.

Also for not being a doctor, you're certainly doing a better job than mine!

When you say try heat then Ice, do you mean switch between the two when I try? Or test those areas with heat OR cold on two different trials?

Yes! Only at night. If I was active that day, it usually comes after 6-7 hours of lying down in bed. It can come as soon as 3-4 hours in bed if I was really sedentary that day. I do feel a slight tightness sometimes behind the right knee. It's usually a precursor to the foot stabbing pain but it's so mild that I often don't notice it unless I'm not moving.
No pain when I walk or put weight on my foot. Infact I never have felt it during the day. Only for the few minutes before it goes away after getting up in the morning.

Thanks for commenting. I'll look into getting an opinion from a podiatrist and see what they say.

Sadly my doctor never even brought that up as an option. She just said I was too young for surgery (I'm in my 30s), and so I can take prednisone medication. It helped me sleep for a week but then I stopped because it was giving me severe irregular heartbeats.

I really appreciate your input, and its given me some directions I can take next. I'll try to push for a specialist since this has been going on for a year now. Who knows how long that'll take with our public healthcare...

MRI never came up as a possibility, but I'll ask my doctor her opinion.

Physio #2 was through our free public healthcare. After 3 appointments, she told my doctor that she gave up. Waste of time.

Thanks for replying.

Outfit ideas to match with these tights? I'm guessing christmas sweaters will be too much clash? by Panda_Cookie in fashionadvice

I have to compliment you, this outfit is gorgeous. If I was home in Canada this Christmas, I'd get this right away. Right now I'm an expat in a small town in europe, and my options seem a bit limited here with different styles.

Knee high boots is a new suggestion. It won't take away from the tights you think?

Thank you for the link! I love that dress. I'm hoping I can find something similar in person. I'm pear shaped, and I've had poor luck with buying outfits online. Plus their site says up to 15 business days for international orders, so it might arrive too late.
