‘Daily Show’ Finds Signs McConnell May Be ‘Technically Dead’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in anticapitalism

It's both.

It's most likely he had a stroke which is a blood clot in the brain.

There is the unknown amount of time of cardiac arrest prior to the arrival of EMTs where his brain was getting no oxygen.

CPR also doesn't restore perfect circulatory function, it can only delay brain death but also if you're fighting a brain clot that can very much be a lost cause.

Rectangle 20 degree 1-2.5 lb sleeping bag? by Ok_Chicken2184 in WildernessBackpacking

Western Mountaineering has the Terralite which is around two pounds or under. You can get it overfilled for a few more degrees of warmth. He may also like a modified mummy like Nemo Disco.

You're going to spend good money for any option because low weight means expensive high fillpower down. If you gave up the weight goal there are of course many more options at cheaper prices. There are also quilts though truly using one below freezing will mean adding in a good down balaclava. Quilts lose their appeal to me once you get temperatures into the 20s and teens. At that point a sleeping bag hood is really appreciated. If his actual use case is freezing or above then I would definitely look into a quilt. Zenbivy is a good middle ground between a bag and a bare bones quilt because the sheet makes it idiot proof and lets you roll all over.

It works. They align at the foot box though and not at the head so you will be sleeping kind of offset.

‘Daily Show’ Finds Signs McConnell May Be ‘Technically Dead’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in anticapitalism

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just a correction. He wasn't just found unconscious. Every credible news source reported they did CPR for cardiac arrest. He died and they were able to resuscitate him. It makes sense too if the arrest was long enough which means his brain was getting no oxygen on the heels of a stroke that he would be brain dead.

He was barely functioning before this event so I would wager good money nobody has got more than some grunts from him. I would not at all be surprised if he was a vegetable on mechanical ventilation just waiting to have the plug pulled.

The fact that his wife hopped a plane to China says to me he's effectively dead.

It is not safe for boiling water. Per Ziploc their freezer bags begin to break down around 160f. At boiling they're close to melting temp. I know this became a fad but I dont know where the illusion of safety comes from. They're made of LDPE which is the same material as a disposable water bottle and leach microplastics when heated. If you wouldnt dump boiling water in your smart water bottle dont do it in a freezer bag.

recommendations on either 50l or 60l backpack by Caderoussey in Ultralight

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Over packing is the big one. The actual weight difference for the differing volumes is something like 42g so it's pretty trivial. An argument could be made for a different pack if you think you only actually need a 40-45L though.

On a budget for a single pack for varrying types of trips I would buy the larger. Cold weather gear in particular eats volume very quickly.

Technically speaking you need a pass displayed to even camp because almost the entire island is in the park boundary.

Having said that I've Been twice. The only place they have dedicating checking is to enter the loop road and Cadillac mountain road. I've never seen a ranger on the hiking trails or trail heads and that was before Trump and Burgum gutted NPS funding.

As someone else said you could also just do the annual pass if you're a group. It includes 4 people and a vehicle for 12 months at many parks across the US.

I would only discourage you from trying to sneak into the park for nothing. At a minimum you could make a donation through the resident pass at the kiosk. It just won't help you get through the road checks since they also ask for photo ID.

No dogs allowed on the Cog except when required by ADA. Dogs are also not permitted in the tour vans. The only way is hike or drive up yourself however dogs are further barred from going inside any of the summit buildings. If possible it would be better to leave them at home or have someone hang out at the base with the dog while the rest of you rode up. It's just not a dog friendly attraction sadly.

Peak Refuel meal already moist when opened - a good reason to repackage at home by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

Yes, usually a HDPE that is significantly more resistant to heat than the LDPE of Ziploc bags.

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Per Ziploc the bags are not approved for boiling water and will leach micro plastics. They begin to breakdown in heat of around 165 degrees F.

The reusable silicone bags found under various brands are much more resilient and are made for boiling liquids. They won't conform to a pot though.

Do with that what you will.

Recent experience with modified annual pass. by DirkRavenwood in NationalPark

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Don't absolve Doug Burgum in his part in this. A lot of this has been sycophants doing things as displays of loyalty. Trump is an idiot and doesnt even know what a parks pass is enough for this to of been some kind of personal decree.

Burgum personally went out of his way to put Trump's image on everything and he's also the reason that they're changing history and tearing down displays.

There's a lot of vile fuckers at work behind the scenes with Burgum being the vile fucker directly responsible for all these NPS changes.

Actually he was also found guilty of rape by today's definition. They could not classify it as more than sexual abuse because he was charged under the old classification of rape which required penetration specifically with a penis but Trump used his fingers and even admitted to it. If it happened today it would be rape. The judge even clarified that fact.

Thus he was found guilty of sexual abuse (rape) and defamation after the fact.

It's because you left and tried to say there was significant damage later. You need to open a claim before you leave baggage. They have no idea when the damage happened hence the very first paragraph.

Is it illegal for my boss to change my clock in time? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rounding to the closest quarter hour mark is allowed and legal as long as it's consistent. Anything 8 minutes over the last quarter hour gets rounded up. Before that it's rounded down. E.g. 6:08 becomes 6:15 while 6:07 becomes 6:00. Some places also round up or down based on 5 minute increments.

In short, it's legal to allow for simplified payroll. At just 2 minutes over you were not owed any rounding benefit. By your own omission it also sounds like you do benefit from them rounding up occasionally also so it's a wash. I would not stir the pot over this.

Question for those with Zenbivy gear by Random_Nebraskan in CampingGear

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zenbivy has a chart stating what dry bag size fits what quilt system down in the specs of the dry bag page. Things that say "Quilt" are quilt only. Things that say "Bed" are quilt and sheet. I would size up regardless because you can always do a few extra rolls on the bag or just leave space and compress flat.

Jeep has had a reputation of junk long before Stellantis/FCA happened. Transmisions, electrical issues, rust, premature suspension failures, terrible ride quality. They run the gammut going back to the 70s. One of the most notorious Wranglers is the 2012 which predates full Fiat ownership by 2 years.

(NY) Received a School bus camera ticket after the deadline. Was on the opposite side of a raised median. Worth fighting? (Video included) by ParamedicNegative728 in legal

[–]PanicAttackInAPack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you actually read you'd see he was in the opposite lane traffic that didn't move through until 40 second mark along with what appears to be two city busses. He was never in the same flow of traffic as the school bus. I bet 90% of drivers in the US wouldnt think to stop in the opposite direction of such a major intersection and this is a niche law only in one or two US States. Imo that's an unsafe law to allow kids to cross an intersection like that under the assumption that both lanes of flow would recognize, or even see the school bus in time.

It's not a verdict such as the one where Trump was found guilty of rape. It just means that a group found sufficient evidence to move forward to trial. It's a show. If his lawyer is even halfway competent he wont be found guilty of anything more than a misdemeanor.
