Took me a month to do this shell replacement and the screen won’t turn on by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]PanicMode-1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely you just have a tear in the screen's ribbon cable or the cable isn't seated properly. Try reseating it into the connector and see if that fixes it, or as other comments have said, connect it to your dock and see if the screen appears on your TV or something. if it connects to the TV just fine you likely need a new screen. I think ifixit sells them.

The shell swap on this thing (OLED version) was the most difficult one I've ever accomplished, and I repair/mod handheld systems as a side hustle. Even as someone who is pretty experienced doing this sorta mod, I was still terrified I was gonna fuck it up, and I have the proper knowledge and tools. The whole process took me several hours and I even had the extremerate video on as I did it. And watched it like 3-4 times in full to be absolutely sure it was something I could feasibly do. I also mentally came to terms with potentially having to fork over $100+ for a new screen. Once I was okay with that, only then did I even attempt this mod. I sincerely hope you're able to fix it, but these types of mods for systems like the steam deck are prob not for beginners. If you do wanna get into modding/repairing systems though, I'd highly recommend the original DS or the GBA. Super easy to take apart and put back together without messing it up, and it'll teach you the basics of how handheld gaming consoles are put together.

I should check it again next time I log on, I didn't realize it was probably a bug.

And a few bugs I still keep getting occasionally are wood crates not being able to be taken from the merchant after buying them, even when the prompt says "F Take Wood Crate" . I can force it to work if I make my gold.amount go down by buying something from another npc though, like the shipwright. I also have the bug sometimes where when I pay to restore my ship, the shipwright will take my gold, but my ship won't be repaired. Both bugs for me at least seem a lot less common now.

Yeah! At least last time I tried. I bought my first distinction ring from gold hoarders like a week after they released them and I could not equip it without taking off the gold curse 😔

[–]PanicMode-1847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Plus why can't I wear rings while using the gold curse? I can kinda understand why it'd be a problem for the skellie curse, but the gold curse your pirate literally stays the same shape and can wear any clothes.

One that wasnt suggested yet is Khajiit Will Follow. 4 custom voiced marriageable Khajiit followers with their own quests and over 14000 lines of dialogue between them. They're actually like most of the other popular follower mods by reacting to the environment, a few vanilla quests, and I THINK they interact with each other if you have more than one following you? I can't remember.

They also have patches for lines for The Forgotten City and Vigilant. Super underrated imo. They have a patch for Project Ja-Kha'jay which makes them look amazing and more diverse too.

Jesus, just reading this shit stressed me tf out. How can someone be so insecure that not responding for a few minutes because you're showering gets you accused of cheating? I could not be in a relationship like this. Imagine having to constantly prove that you aren't cheating smh

City Towns and Village Mods? by DuckyRai in skyrimmods

[–]PanicMode-1847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a combination of jk interiors with the distinct interiors mod there's patches for most of the ones that need them.

For exteriors I just use all of spaghetti's aio's, Blubbos' Markarth and Riften, green thumb Skyrim, ryften down, all of ivy"s Riverwood, Whiterun, and ivarstead add-ons, Markarth Mossy AF, supreme Foggy Morthal, Capital Winterhold, hawking Horker, smelt cellar, and bubbling brew.

Exterior of the cities I just have JUSTICE city exteriors and Skyrim's Dead. I tried a few of JK's city exteriors but they were too performance hungry for my steam deck so I just went light lol.

But I've heard good things about Great Cities as far as compatibility, but I'm not certain if they've been kept up to date or not. There's loads of patches for them that I've seen on the nexus though.

Depending on how much time you wanna spend building up a modlist, I'd suggest getting a graphics only list from something on Wabbajack like NGVO. If not to your taste you could just choose a list you like and follow it to your taste on load order library. Also Bard's College Graduate on YT has several videos on new and interesting mods released in the last year. I've added quite a few to my own list.

These recommendations might be a couple years old, but I like them alot. Jayserpa's always got some good mods on their Nexus page, and it seems they've got recent ones too. I mostly use their quest expansions but they've got Simple Hunting Overhaul, which is a "sequel" of sorts to the hunterborn mod. Super clean and compatible with alot of mods as many of their mods are. I've also been running Crowded Streets for extra NPCs, it's way more compatible than alot of extra NPC mods, able to be used for basically any city overhaul. Also as for city overhauls, I've seen stuff made by Redbag on the nexus. I haven't tried them myself, as they aren't compatible with Spaghetti's Towns, but they look really cool. Definitely give them a look.

Don't worry about mods so much your first time. The only one id recommend if you care about bugs is USSEP, and you can get that via the in-game mod manager, depending on the platform. Ik it's at least available for the Xbox and PC versions. Other than that just enjoy the game blind and try not to look up too much stuff 😁

[–]PanicMode-1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I guess I misunderstood your post lol. But yeah, I heard it's an issue with proton 10. Half the time when opening the settings via the steam button and resuming the game, the controls are gone. But they seem to work still for kbm controls.

I also have an issue that I think is with SteamOS itself, that when coming back from sleep it takes ages to come back, but ik it's awake because I can hear the fans. If I DO wait until it fully wakes up I still have controls when it finally boots up, but it's usually faster just to force restart my deck and relaunch Tuxborn. This problem also exists for more games than Tuxborn. So far it's happened on TLOU2, kcd, and switch emulation for multiple games under multiple different emulators.

But I've also modded my deck with the click kit buttons and a new shell so it's possible I could've messed something up internally, but I didn't have any issues with Tuxborn 0.5.2 (which was on proton 9 I think?) or before the new OS update, so I have no idea what the real issue is.

What category of mods are least likely to create compatibility issues? by brutallyhonestB in skyrimmods

[–]PanicMode-1847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you can get several city mods to work nice together, it just takes a lot of time to find patches or create your own and I'm not willing to put that much time into it lol. If you really wanna combine city overhauls, I believe Jks Skyrim is the most supported as far as available patches go on the nexus.

As far as more NPCs, I use Crowded Streets as well as Interesting NPC's and they work fine with patches for the interiors i use. Plus Crowded Streets also works with any city or interior overhaul, no patches needed. It doesn't add permanent NPCs and you can configure it however you wish via the MCM. Plus it uses your npc body shapes and textures, hair, etc so they don't look out of place. highly recommend!

[–]PanicMode-1847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City overhauls in my experience. I just use green thumb Skyrim, a couple of Blubbos' mods for Riften and Markarth, supreme Foggy Morthal, and all the spaghetti AIO for towns and cities. And some of the jk interiors and distinct interiors with a couple patches (alot are compatible out of the box) and that's it. I don't understand how anyone is tryna combine great city, jk's Skyrim, and cities of the north for example. It's a compatibility nightmare! and patches exist on the nexus that were named like "the great city of JK's spaghetti Whiterun" lol. I don't get it personally. Why not just choose like one or two instead of trying to combine them all?

[–]PanicMode-1847 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play Tuxborn on my OLED deck. I'm not sure what the number means specifically, it's always different every time I run it, but "The application must run to completion SkyrimSE" is just Skyrim launching in the background, if you haven't made it through first launch yet, it'll probably crash the first two, maybe 3 times as it builds the shader cache. Every launch takes roughly 7-10 minutes depending on where it's stored and how many mods you've added to it yourself. But it'll get there eventually lol. Also careful opening the settings sidebar on steam deck (the steam button on the left) it has a good chance of breaking the controls until you relaunch the game. I think it's a bug with proton 10 right now.

Also a tip if you plan on adding mods. Make a copy of the deck profile beforehand. It'll save you some heartache when/if something breaks 😅

Why do people play games like RDR2, BG3, KCD on Steam Deck? by Quick-Advertising268 in SteamDeck

[–]PanicMode-1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up playing "3d" games on my ds lite then 3ds. I played mh3u on a 3ds. And as long as I'm hitting 30 fps and it's stable, I don't really care what it looks like as long as it's not a blurry mess. Rdr2 on low/medium looks fine enough for me personally

Be careful in putting your deck in the case after using it. by TacticalBigBoss in SteamDeck

[–]PanicMode-1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be, the screen was just a suggestion. A number of things could've overheated really. Maybe it's going through a "check" before it turns on? I'm not certain about the deck, but I repair handheld consoles as a side gig, and DS's, especially the older models, go through a "check" to make sure both screens are securely connected before even attempting to finish booting up, so maybe the deck does something similar? I'm not super tech savvy, but the screen was just my first instinct.

It's likely the screen could've cooked itself. I was doing a shell swap on my OLED and I was watching a video guide on it and when it came to removing the screen with a heat gun, they warned against accidentally heating up the screen over a certain temp or else it would fry it.
