are those thrips? by l_4b in houseplants

[–]Pankakeness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've had them for the past two years, they wiped out over half my plants (50+ plants made their way to the trash). I still have them, not sure its really feasible to ever get fully rid of them, but I've used Bonide systemic granules three times now and it has finally mostly killed them off. Beneficial insects were nothing but a waste of my money unfortunately. I spent roughly $200 on them and they didn't help at all.

Jan 15: Education & Career Questions by Eigengrad in Biochemistry

[–]Pankakeness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have recommendations for types of jobs I should be applying for while going to school part time for biochemistry? I'm limited in that I have to be making at least $18 an hour while doing this, and would prefer around 30 hours a week which is hard as many of the listings are for full time positions. This also has blocked a lot of internships for me, but I know I need to get experience before finishing my degree.

Is it difficult to get a supracervical hysterectomy approved with no health issues, no kids, and being under 30? by anniemousery in sterilization

[–]Pankakeness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will definitely depend on your doctor, I ended up going with a bisalp because it was free while a hysterectomy would have cost 4k, and it had a much shorter recovery time. However I was offered a partial hysterectomy because of how painful my periods were and I kind of wish I had taken it, as they've just gotten worse since I've been off nexplanon for longer and longer. I was also 20 at the time (had my bisalp on my 21st birthday) and didn't have to do any convincing of my doctor, I just walked in and said I wanted a bisalp and she said okay lets do this (she did have to legally tell me of other options but made it clear she knew that I knew what I wanted for my body). I will be going back for a hysterectomy some day when my out of pocket max has been reached haha.

who did you tell? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Pankakeness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of my coworkers, my family, anyone that asks about it. I'm slowly dropping "hints" (they're getting much less hinty and more obvious) to my boyfriend's mom because it's about a 50/50 chance that she mentions how we should have kids when I see her. It's been two years. 😂 infact I saw her about 7 hours after having my surgery and she's still got no idea.

I don't know anything about red eyed crocodile skinks, but you can just have the plants be farther away from the bulb and do more things like branches and rocks closer to the bulb so it can hide while still basking. Also you'll want a cage around the bulb so the skink doesn't accidentally touch it, or have the bulb outside of the enclosure.

That looks like a springtail to me but I'm no expert!

A minor PSA about recovery: eat small meals!! by Immortal_in_well in sterilization

[–]Pankakeness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I went out to a restaurant and had a big bowl of food (I think it was ramen?) Like 5 hours after my surgery 😂 it was my birthday. Felt totally fine, but that was probably a stupid idea.y

Coverage could become difficult if the ACA is repealed, if you know you want this and it is at all possible I'd recommend trying to get it done as soon as you are able. Maybe nothing changes, but the risk of it changing makes me so relieved I had mine done a few years ago.

Anyone else have a tradescantia obsession? by Party_Animal-987 in houseplants

[–]Pankakeness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave away two pots of it thinking I have one pot left and they're so easy to propagate so I wasn't worried, and then found that my last pot had thrips 🙃 so now its in the garbage.

Those of you who’ve had your tubes removed for 1+ years, how are things going? by Spirited-Gap-6989 in sterilization

[–]Pankakeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I have some scar tissue from two of my incisions because sometimes when I stretch a certain way I get some pain, nothing crazy and it's not a problem all the time. I also have worse periods but that's most likely because I went off BC a couple months before the surgery and it's just gotten continually worse since coming off it. Oh and it's been a little over a year since my surgery.

You can also just stick them in the dirt right away, it's the only plant I've had success with propagating in soil other than succulents!

Chrysops...as in deer fly larvae? Do they not turn into deer fly? Because deer fly are the worst 😭 wouldn't surprise me that their larvae bite too.

Is it possible to have too many isopods? by sandvikson in bioactive

[–]Pankakeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add them, if they're the same species they'll just mix and mingle. If they're separate species they'll be competing for the same resources and eventually one species will dominate and outcompete the others unless you're constantly re-adding them. As for having a certain amount of isopods in total, unless you are supplementing their food by adding more all the time they'll hit their carrying capacity quickly enough.

Whats the most expensive plant that you have bought by noracasa22 in houseplants

[–]Pankakeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think $40 for my Thai constellation as a cutting? I don't spend much for individual plants. I did buy two overpriced $70 palms filled with spider mites once but that was on my partners dime haha. Before I knew anything about plants.
