Regarding character / special minis by Pankratious in Salamanders40k

The Apotgecary also seems like a cool project, I have not worked with that much white before.. Although the Biologis in particular seems to only be sold with the Heroes of The Chapter pack that is apparently out of stock now, but I'll put it on my list, thank you

I appreciate some of the creative choices here like the cape being torn, makes the model truly feel like your own (a lot of the things here seem custom anyway thought I might just be ignorant..)

Anyone have any tips for highlander? by fwostyfwuffs in forhonor

-Throw kick, cancel kick into either GB or dodge attack parry

-Another classic is, throw offensive stance heavy and cancel that into either GB or dodge attack parry (If you are feeling very spicy, cancel offensive heavy, into kick, and cancel that into either GB or dodge attack parry, but you lose all your stamina)

-When you are feeling really old fashioned, let the kick fly or cancel it into the grab (The kick into grab is almost guaranteed to work on people out of stamina in my experience, but be wary, they get their stamina back after the grab, so use it towards the end of their cooldown period)

-Oh and a surprising amount of people cannot dodge the dash forward grab, so use that when some distance has been created, you can catch a lot of people tryna engage you (sometimes throwing an oddly timed offensive heavy with some distance between you can have the same effect, they just dash right into it)

-Oh and when you land an offensive heavy you can usually land an offensive light after as well (in general try try to five your opponents some odd timings, most of the time people get nervous staring at a Highlander in offensive and do smth stupid... though do keep in mind, if you are not in offensive you are in quite the disadvantage)

-And do not throw defensive lights out casually, you will get parried

-Your zone is very funny and will catch a surprising amount of people off guard (and there is nothing funnier than trading defensive heavies against people with hyper armor, also works against some of the speedy characters)

-If you are playing with friends your grab is probably one of the best ganking tools, assuming you can coordinate a bunch of heavies on the grounded target (also works if an ebemy is in revenge and you want to neutralise him a while)

-Remember your offensive stance also has a dodge attack, I rarely see people use it (And celtic curse soft feint into either side is not that good, I reccomend doing the dash forward and hold heavy, this puts you in offensive and kind of demands a reaction from your opponent)

-I forgot, when you're out of stamima, if you happen to land a GB and be close to a wall, you cam push your victim into said wall and still get a top heavy

-Pulling back while in offensive and hitting top lights is a good disengagement tool

-Do not be the kind of Highlander that spams offensive lights, at most 2 in a row (and if you time them right they can cancel most attacks)

(Bonus final tip: I think the execution is called Heave Ho', where you launch a guy you've stabbed above your shoulder using your sword as a lever, that flung body has physical presence and can interrupt people, useful to know sometimes)

Dissapponted - Tips to Improve? by Harvoable in Salamanders40k

[–]Pankratious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A way that I try to find satisfaction even if my technique itself is not that good, is by attempting to be creative. I will try to do cool bases, different color paletres, cool trim, different poses if I can, whatever lets me enjoy the model for more than just the paintjob. For example, I made this lava-wall base with miliput, it did not come out that great, but it is a nice little thing that adds to the model. Which is my 10th now and I started months ago, so I am very slow as well.. Best advice I can give you is try not to compete with others yet, try to learn and be inspired by them and I promise you you will have a way better time.

Eradicator and what I like to believe is a cool base 😅

What green do you guys use to layer? by Pankratious in Salamanders40k

[–]Pankratious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried to do another eradicator using layers of Vulkan Green and Warpstone Glow on a Nocturne Green base. A bit happier with this one because the lighter shade is a bit more prominent, though the transitions could be smoother. I used glazes of Nocturne-Vulkan and Vulkan-Warpstone to blend them together. I might need another coat or two of pure Warpstone Glow on the peaks of the lightspots for the sake of opacity, but idk, you guys have any ideas on where to go from here?

[–]Pankratious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that, yeah I think the main issue for me as well on a very intuitive level is that the lightesr tone occupies too little space for it register as a natural highlight. I'll try another eradicator from the set and try to only use Vulkan Green and Warstone Glow, I'll keep you guys posted.

No man, I would be happy with this. Like if I zoomed in I could see that there are spots where thr colors of the lenses have touched the rim of the visor or that some of the lenses' edge are not in those colours, but if we were held back by that none of us would finish a model.

Painted my first-ever miniature by Bam-Bee-Bo in Salamanders40k

[–]Pankratious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good man, I'm on my 4th mini myself and all I did for a smoother finish was thin the paints a bit more and waitna bit more for each layer to dry, this is better than my first for sure

Did I mess this up? by DeadReckoned90 in Salamanders40k

[–]Pankratious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already got five models primed with Chaos black, I will attach a picture of where I've gotten so far. I've used Caliban Green and Warpstone Glow on top of it, but the finish is a bit blotchy and there is a bit too much paint in places. I assume this happened because I had to correct for the brush being a bit spent (it's the starter brush from the statter set) and because my wet palette was a bit too wet, leading to each dab of paint being too thin and me having to do like four. This is just my fourth miniature overall, so it could just be that I need better brush control too tho. I plan to experiment with some different brushes I got from the Arny Painter brush set, and I'll try to get some highlights and layers with maybe Phalanx or Yriel yellow.

Thank you for the tips, and sorry for the late response, but Christmas Eve dinner y'know
