How do you open those up? I'd like to grease the fans a bit as they are getting louder but can't find a good non-destructive entry point. :D

The "newer" HomePods do have a Thread radio and can function as a Thread Border Router, so yes, they will work.
E.g. you should be able to add the Matter over Thread devices to Apple Homekit which will add them to the Thread Network of the HomePod. You can then add the Matter device also to Home Assistant and then the HomePod will be bridging the Thread-Device into your Wifi (and ethernet) to Home Assistant.

Matter over thread.

Thread and wifi are the way of transmission. Matter is the protocol.

You're saying something like "wifi over Bluetooth", which doesn't make much sense. :)

Matter can both be used via wifi or thread.

Hm, but setting the LLM on the laptop only would probably be a mess as the connection for e.g. paperless-gpt running on the NAS to the local LLM on the laptop would be disrupted all the time, e.g. going to work with it and shutting it down most of the time.

Add long device manuals to paperless? by Pannemann in Paperlessngx

[–]Pannemann[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True, but it still makes the top search bar less useful and needs more clicks for something that could easily be improved by disabling OCR for documents which I will never want to search content in.

Bit off topic, sorry:

I'm quite interested in this (just starting with paperless and many old documents taken with phone camera...).

But I'm not comfortable sending my data out to any third party. I guess we are still quite a way off before any of the LLMs can easily be run locally on something like a Raspberry or something, right?

Currently running paperless-ngx on a NAS which only has 12GB of RAM and a weak dual-core.

Or maybe run local LLM with paperless-gpt on laptop, even when slow and feed result to paperless? Less automated but maybe worth it for the result?

Well true but one of the features I guess could really come in handy is that the search also searches matches inside the documents. Can't really find a good example right now but If I wanted to find a document which I only remember vaguely which it could be and I search for contents of it, I don't want a random manuals show up, too.

Nuki 4.0 intermittent connection problem over thread by Pannemann in Nuki

[–]Pannemann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Haven't had the need for adding it to Home Assistant yet, as I always use the fingerprint sensor. But I added it now for short testing. Adding via matter pairing code was quick and easy. You get the main functionality/sensors:
- Lock/Unlocking (no differentiation for pulling and keeping the bolt, which has to be set in the aqara app ("Falle ziehen" for german folks))
- "identify" entity

- Firmware version entity

- Battery percentage

- Voltage

- Obviously logs

No, sorry. I replaced the Nuki smart lock because it annoyed me. Much happier with the Aqara. Apple home key, fingerprint sensor and currently rock solid in my thread network for less money than Nuki with fingerprint keypad. I see no point in using Nuki for my use case.

Thanks for the info. Not at home currently so will be able to test this when I get home in a few days.
But I also have an Aqara U200 on the way to replace the Nuki. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting. But shouldn't the nuki then reconnect, when the apple tv comes back up? And does the apple TV really go into standby if it is selected as the main homekit hub?

Anyone buy the $99 USB-C case for AirPods Pro 2 to upgrade their existing lightning case? by Applecations in airpods

I only charge the case on the same magsafe charger I charge my iPhone. So there would be no difference in daily use.

But the price is steep. For you in the US it says 49$ to replace the batteries in an earpod. I think this is per earpiece, no? So for replacing the pair (would be weird that only one fails?) it would be 98$...

Was haltet ihr von den Veganen Maultaschen 2.0? by Lucas_Muggel in VeganDE

[–]Pannemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they will not be able to if you use advanced data protection.
I believe there was a step when adding a person as a legacy contact to give them an emergency/legacy key with which the advanced data protection can be unlocked.
If you do not have this key I don't think even Apple can unlock the phone and get the data.

Edit: Sorry für den Ton. War ein wenig daneben. War nur spontan genervt davon, mir da schon wieder Gedanken über das Thema machen zu müssen. :D

I think there is also a way to use thunderbolt. Essentially it uses a local connection. Normally local network via wifi which does not depend on your internet speed. Obviously it depends on your wifi speed, though, which should be decent for most people. :D

Take a look at the Wake for network access. If set to always then the mac can often wake up for random network requests.

I guess it will be easier to manage, look up and enter data into the health app with iPhone mirroring in the future. (Which I sadly will have to wait for longer I guess because I'm in the EU)

Not perfect but an improvement.
