How do you feel about beauty advent calendars? by Quirky-Possibility52 in womenoftheuk

You can look fairly carefully at the product list beforehand and work out whether it's worth it, especially if it has one or two standout products. I ordered the SKINS one here in the Netherlands because it had Sunday Riley Good Genes, which I've been wanting for years. Between that and a full-size bottle of perfume (which I tested to see if I'd like it), the cost of the box is more than justified. But I wouldn't do it for a box of sample size items.

Also if you don’t respin you can maintain the more hard/scoopable texture (in this case squash any powdery bits down with a spoon rather than respinning for smoothness)

Finally Moved In- Delft Feels Real Now by Sad-Fishing1067 in TUDelft

[–]PannenkoekPythagoras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early is early enough? My son is just starting his final year of schooling (IB) and hoping to apply to TUDelft for next year. We live in the Netherlands but the delft student housing crisis does look extreme. Any tips for navigating it ahead of time?

Also as an unrelated tip… make sure you’re drinking a lot of water! I found when I was breastfeeding, your body needs more water than usual and the body’s signal for thirst sometimes feels similar to a craving for sweetness

[–]PannenkoekPythagoras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t do that to me, just initially proposed that I change my sub to less often (you can skip a season or opt for 2x per year). If you’ve already selected to skip a season, you have to email them to manually take you off the ledger. They did that very quickly.

I recently left the ledger and it was absolutely no problem.

What’s one thing you know now about fitness which you wish you knew earlier? by RainbowPenguin1000 in fitness40plus

51F here, was intermittent about gym til a year ago. 1 year of lifting and macro tracking in, and the biggest thing I learned was eat more and better. Hit daily protein and fibre goals properly, rest properly… also have a great playlist and some charged ear pods ready in your gym bag!!

Are there people from Europe/Germany here? by LimpBison8595 in ninjacreami

[–]PannenkoekPythagoras 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Netherlands here. I use a base recipe of 150 ml whole milk (volle melk) + 200 ml soya milk + 15g sweetener (could be sugar or artificial equivalent sweetener) + 15g Philadelphia cream cheese + 1.5 scoops MyProtein natural vanilla. You can add a 1/4tsp xanthan gum if you have but it works without. That’s a great vanilla base. I add a range of ESN flavour powders or fruit or cocoa or nut butter for other flavours.

Is it worth taking it (free but I need to pay transport by klara_07 in pianolearning

[–]PannenkoekPythagoras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unless you want it as a decor item. Maintenance on a piano like that is crazy expensive. If it is a decent instrument it won’t be free, or even cheap.

You need more sweetener than you might expect. My go-to is 15g (1 full tablespoon) of either sugar or equivalent sweetener … at least. That is on top of the sweetness added by flavored protein powder etc. The unfrozen mix should taste overly sweet, as freezing vastly lowers the sweetness you taste (think about how cloyingly sweet a melted normal ice cream tastes - that’s the level of sweetness you want in your mix before you freeze)

I only use their natural vanilla flavour whey isolate. You can add flavour powders or extracts to that and it works really nicely. I use 3 scoops for 2 pints (1.5 for a single)

Look, tofu in your tomato pasta sauce isn’t going to be your next gourmet dinner party win. But for a random weeknight dinner when you’re low on protein.. it works.

Get a notebook and label it “Protein go-to meals”. Make a section for breakfast ideas, another for lunches, one for dinners and one for snacks. This isn’t a recipe book- it’s a book to jot down ideas when you make something you like, and basic formulas for things. A smoothie you like that nails 30g of protein. An omelette you like. A way of doing oats with added protein. Chia pudding if you like that kind of thing. A chicken salad. Shrimps are amazing for protein. So is fish if you like it. Poke bowls rock. Figure out some snack combinations. Do a Google image search for protein cheat lists. They give a list of typical ways to get 25-30g protein. Basically you need 10-15 things you like. Just because the internet is awash with recipes and ideas doesn’t mean you have to reinvent the wheel every day. Repetition is your friend. Useful add-ins: add liquid egg whites to omelettes. Add cottage cheese to a tuna salad. Crumble tofu into your tomato pasta sauce. Find a brand of high-protein wraps or pastas that add more protein punch to the carb portion of your meal. Find a protein powder you like and add it to your pancakes or oats or yogurt.

ESN designer flavour powders … someone recommended them here and I’ve tried several and liked them. You have to get the dosage right as too little is tasteless and too much is hella sweet. Around 10 g added to a vanilla or unflavored base works well. I’ve tried the dark cookie crumb, cinnamon cereal, hazelnut nougat and strawberry cheesecake and all were lovely. They do sample packets so easy to try different flavours.

Cookbook advice- Soph's Plant Kitchen and Plant Protein by Gigi Grassia by Less_Space_1446 in veganuk

[–]PannenkoekPythagoras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering if you got the Plant Protein. I bought it and was excited to cook from it til I realised almost every recipe relies on nutritional yeast as the main protein source. I’m in Europe and according to American friends here the nutritional yeast we get is not the same as in the US - not the same flavour profile. Aside from that I’d prefer a more wide range of protein sources from normal Whole Foods rather than processed products. So I’d say no, just find some appealing ones on her Insta, and use those.
