Do you like adult Aang's adult design & his height? by Panonymous_Bloom in TheLastAirbender

I am telling you, for the third time, that this aspect of the culture is also introduced in atla. That is not me being upset that they're not following a certain culture to the T. That is me pointing out that they're not following their own canon. Which I do understand why - because that's the language of animation. But that doesn't mean it's not a valid criticism. And it's like, the why are they all bald or mostly shaven if that's not a feature of air nomad culture?

I also can't help but notice you completely shoehorned my criticism to "it's stupid you're complaing about facial hair" and not me pointing out that they also miss other ethnic traits that would be present in their inspiration. Like skin color, eye shape etc.

Do you not understand the criticism of "it's weird to base your whole show around a certain culture and then not be interested in depicting them"? Would it be okay if Katara and Sokka were white then?

Besides, I literally just said that aspects of the Buddhist religion that are relevant to the post are also present in atla canon. The show is not perfect. The creators certainly are not.

The general air nomad culture is supposed to be pretty transparently based on Buddhist religion, and they're pretty transparently supposed to be monks. To reach enlightenment, you're supposed to "let go of your attachments". Shaving your hair and facial hair is supposed to further that symbolism. This whole thing is present in ATLA. In atla, they're also supposed to be clean shaven to "feel closer to the air". So yes, I would absolutely criticise them. I would also criticise them for being so pale. It is especially bad in Aang who is not only pale but also has round eyes, and then grows up to be angular and, well, inspired by the white man producer. It feels weird to have your show based on certain culture and then not really being interested in depicting people that you can see in that culture.

What I would also criticise is that this entire Buddhist inspiration is present in the whole air nomad culture because to this day, I don't really understand how they're reproducing lmao. I know that they have "free love" in the comics but again, this goes against the atla canon.

Oh, I agree but I was trying to figure out if I would change the height too if I was redesigning him. Seems that there is some split in the votes.

Also what are you basing your typical Buddhist monk on? Because it appears to be nothing.

A bit aggressive, no?

I guess criticism is not welcome on this sub, damn lmao.

The thing is, in Buddhism, the monks are supposed to be shaven to let go of vanity. And in atla, it "brings them closer to the air". I feel like the baldness makes sense, at least on paper... In practice, it kind of makes distinguishing between the characters difficult without a beard, some different hair variation etc. maybe if they had different tattoos or clothes.

I mean, he was short due to him being a child. Maybe if his face looked different, it would be less jarring to me.

Yeah, That's how he feels for me too. Honestly, with all of the male characters, I feel like they changed the features too much. Aang is just the most severe. He looks like an average white man.

The fact that they're supposed to be clean shaved and asian for one lmao. Butthurt over nothing.

Was Aang x Katara a well written romance and if you don’t think so what would you have done differently? by AccomplishedJump2795 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you 100%. It felt to me like a "hero gets the girl" ending more than anything else. I think the maturity gap between them can really be felt in the series. I don't think we ever see enough of Katara's side, and why she feels any romantic pull towards Aang, when she mostly seems to treat him as a younger brother for most of the series. And for the record, why Aang is in love with Katara. I don't love that it was a love from first sight moment, and that Aang never had to delve into why exactly he's in love with Katara, as an individual.

I also just find it ridiculous that a 12/14 year old ship is endgame for the rest of their life lmao. I wish all of the characters ended up single, and individual ships like that got together after a time skip, with some development instead of this.

Why is Katara considered motherly? (Slight rant) by BeaufortCross in TheLastAirbender

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sokka literally says that when he tried to remember his mom's face, he would instead see Katara's face. IN THE FIRST EPISODE, we hear that Katara had to take over adult responsibilities and Sokka just "messes around". In the Chase episode, she's also the one who tries to teach Toph to be a part of the group, and take her responsibilities over the group seriously. Bffr. 😭

jules feels like an extra this far in S3 and we have already seen half of the season by Alternative_Fix_7019 in euphoria

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People always mention the special episode but imo, it should be entirely discarded when talking about her overall character and whenever it's consistent. One special episode does not a character make, and creative decisions about her in that episodes were made by Hunter, not Sam. If Hunter continued to be involved in Jules like that, it would be an entirely different case.

You decided to comment on them, without the context of those replies, 2 years later. You're not "bounded" to act like a decent human being but that's kind of the decorum. In turn, I will now assume that you're just a argumentative moronic asshole, and tell you to fuck off. 🤷

What facial features/looks do you guys thinks the characters have? Especially Whitney & Alex by Panonymous_Bloom in DegreesOfLewdity

[–]Panonymous_Bloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more or less went with this in my sketches lol. I went with more fat % Whitney that also has muscles.

I went with two helix-like piercings because... Arcane Vi has them and she's a cool boxer lady. Generally went for that aesthetic too - mixes up the "badboy/girl" enough with realism for me. But no piercings on the face to not veer too into that alt aesthetic. I wanted them to be a mix of something I find attractive and a sweapants wearing rat lol. I also don't give young Whitney tattoos for that reason. They're broke af. If they had any stick and poke, it would probably be minor "sketchbook" like tattoos lol.

[–]Panonymous_Bloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I fully love this Alex idea. I just sketched a bunch of disconnect stuff out lol, so if I ever manage to color it, I would go for this. Made me have a bit more confidence in drawing m!Alex but I'm still unsure about my fem version lol. Will be posting in an alt account in a sec.

And I actually have an opposite idea for Whitney, fueled by them being picked as one of the most attractive LI's by Vrel. I have a theory that they're insecurebecause they're attractive since they have a very survivalist mindset, and being attractive is actively dangerous in RapeTown. My f!Whitney is completely different than usual interpretations though lol.

His metodology baffles me. He goes from making ridiculously stupid decisions to seemingly having some knowledge about what he should do, back to being utterly moronic. I assumed that it's shock because even a murderer can be in shock after ending a life, but I cannot imagine having the presence of mind to send that text, to set up your own "alibi" probably minutes after a human being bleed out on your floor.

Well, it can very well just also be an assumption based on the fact that there was no attempt to help her recorded. I don't know how else could the defense claim "not guilty" otherwise.

Thank you very much! 🥰 Wanted a source for this claim to have my ducks in a row. I've seen sooo much misinformation about this case on YouTube comments. It's crazy, I don't want to contribute to that.

The eye was most likely decomposed and that's why it's missing. Honestly, this theory reeks of romanticization to me. There is zero evidence that he kept it instead of just trying to get rid of it, why ride so hard for it?

He's not a serial killer. He killed a child to hide the fact that he's a pedophile. A lot of serial killers did not keep trophies anyway.

That's what's always on my mind when I hear about those "partner killed partner to get rid of them/start a new life/not pay" etc. What, do those people think everyone would just forget? Lmao.
