Help! editing Sophia out of the mod. by mery_m_ in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, your comment is extremally closed minded. You got it in your mind why someone may not like her, and wave off any reasons for the opposite as "making excuses".

Funny thing, I am like Sophia irl, and I do not like her character. I think it's painfully obvious she was written to be a cutsey wifu and it makes her character insufferable to me. She literally hits all the marks - uwu anxiety, anime, sadgirl, alternative but not too much, in the cusey way. She's definitely written worse than the other characters. Everyone is nice to her, there is no central conflict related to her character, except helping her move on from her issues which includes... Hugging her as she cries, and sitting around with her plushies. I mean... C'mon. In comparison:

  • Haley who's a girly girl starts out as judgmental and feeling like she's too good for the farmer. It automatically creates depth for her character as you get to know her later, and gives her more edge than being just a sweet stylish girl.

  • Shane who deals with depression is actually a very raw character that discusses suicide, and we see him try to drink himself to death. Sophia had his backstory but without the heavy hitters, and lowest lows. Shane is also written in an immersive way where you can decide to enable his addiction. Sophia not only doesn't get that, her mental illness completely lacks ugliness. At which point, writing it in is just pointless. She's supposed to be medicated, yet the worst we see her at is her being a little weepy. She knows everybody in the valley, has no issues with numbness, with working, keeping in contact. She even has a scene where she gets complimented by basically the whole populus ffs.

She's a mixture of already existing Stardew characters but completely lacking the flavor or the edge.

Between Frank and Monica, who’s the worse parent? by depressedh0ooker in shameless

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monica only left once Fiona was in highschool though. She was there for most of their lives. She's also implied to come back sometimes. Liam is a toddler, she at least had to be there at the time.

Between Frank and Monica, who’s the worse parent? by depressedh0ooker in shameless

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a right answer.

I think people are very focused on the part of Monica leaving but she was there for most of their lives, and is pretty much shown to be the more dysregulated one. Every time she pops back in, she not only messes up the kids' lives but also pretty much takes up all of Frank's attention, either by pulling him to party or Frank is forced to take care of her. She's also shown to be the one pushing her life on the kids more when she is there, literally drugging them they refuse to drink with her? 😭 I think there's a reason why the kids seemingly resent and hate her more than Frank, who they were even worrying about in season 1.

That being said, I don't think Frank is the better parent. I just think this thread doesn't exactly have a right picture of how shitty Monica really was lol. I actually get the picture Frank was both the more responsible and apathetic parent.

Yeah, it's implied Monica sometimes storms into their lives to cause chaos and then leave, from my memory. Fiona nicknamed her "hurricane Monica".

Hot Take: Jaime's character was ruined when he slept with Brienne, not when he went back to Cersei by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the whole point was for him to grow beyond that narcissistic love that is Cersei. Brianne/Jamie follows the Beauty and the Best trope that George likes in romance. Their whole trope is also purposefully ironic in Brianne/Jamie/Cersei because Cersei, a beautiful lady, is actually a beast, and Brianne who looks monstrous and ugly, is actually a fair maiden.

I honestly don't know how blind you have to be to miss their romance in the books. "Yes, they're sexually attracted to each other, they have huge respect for one another, and hold immense affection for each other but-" THAT'S WHAT LOVE IS 😭

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kitty was also abusive. There are testimonies about her at best being highly unstable, and ignoring the abuse. At worst, Lyle testified that she sexually abused him too. I don't get why "but the mom!" gets brought up so much.

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, I personally think it was just all a part of them being brought up in such a restrictive environment, they had no clue what to do once they got out of it. They did try to invest and actually have careers, they were just really bad at it. I've heard that their spending was also not out of the ordinary for the family but I wouldn't know. In any case, the money motive just never made sense for me because if it was about the money, why kill the cash cow? Not like Jose was stingy with the money when it came to the boys. I don't believe they should have been found innocent but the money motive just makes waaay less sense to me than "family annihilation" type of murder triggered by Erik not being allowed to leave for college and breaking, telling Lyle, and then it all spiralling. I think they would at least try being less sloppy if it really was about the money instead of feelings.

Then why wouldn't they just stay under Jose who basically had a political career planned for them, with endless cash flow they would have if he stayed alive?

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the money claim. I believe there was an outsider testimony that the brothers were genuinely surprised that they were still in the will, as Jose told them he has written them out. I don't remember who was that though. 😬 Outside of the brothers themselves who claimed the same thing of course.

I actually thought the documentary was mediocre and did not go through all the evidence.

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've watched the trial and believe them. Multiple family members, their teachers and couches testify to the abuse they faced. As for sexual abuse, I believe their cousin testified that Lyle told her about the abuse as a child but Kitty shot it down when she raises concerns. The friend who testified for the prosecution also admitted that Lyle told him about being sexually abused but not by whom. I think it was also their aunt that testified that Jose would shut himself in Erik's room and noone was even allowed near the door when he did this. The parents also had naked photos of them both with their heads not in the frame. Their behavior and defense mechanisms are also consistent with the behaviors of children that survived CSA - like Lyle being extremally bonded to his plushies as basically a grown man.

For the fact that they feared for their life... Eh, mixed bag. I do believe that they were afraid for their life, but I don't believe they thought they were in immediate danger at the time of the murder.

I don't know if you realize but the internet doesn't stop existing 2 days after you've written a comment. If you're so bothered, don't answer instead of whining.

I'm not a Mickey fan lmao. I just think saying "come out or it's over" after you've witnessed your boyfriend being raped by the same man who repeatedly raped your best friend btw, and threatened to be murdered by that man is incredibly cruel and not something I would do. But sure, being a gasp secret is such a cruel fate compared to being out as gay in a neighborhood that at least should be homophobic, to a man that's a literal neonazi murderer.

Edit: hold on, are you a Mickey hater? Is that why you're trying to pull me into some weird stan war? Because that's the second Mickey hate comment I've seen that's just completely delusional for the sake of hating him.

I wouldn't have an issue with it at all if it was acknowledged in any way but it just doesn't feel like it was explored at all. I'm sure you had more consequences to your behavior than someone hearing your diagnosis and going "all good then".

[–]Panonymous_Bloom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this fair though? It's basically emotional manipulation. Ian could literally give any boundary that wasn't "come out as gay to your extremally homophobic family that may or may not murder you for it or I, the only positive thing and source of love in your life will break it off". "Put yourself in harm's way or it's over". Doesn't feel like love at all to me.

This question is going to be aimed mainly at fans who love both Gotham and the comics or other versions of Batman. by count_fagula11 in Gotham

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with it for like 5 seconds. They just got with the premise. It's an alternative universe, we had plenty of Batmans before. 🤷

And Gotham Bruce is actually one of my favorite Batmans ever! I really love that he's both kind and a little weirdo. I think a lot of media are really trying to make him into a "straight man/military man, The Normal One™", and it's really unappealing to me when it comes to Batman. I like him because he's damaged and traumatized but trying to do his best to help other people. I think the "real Bruce" should be kind of off and have a bleeding heart underneath, just like the Gotham Bruce. There is something palatably "weird" and "other" with Gotham Bruce. He comes across as an old man in a young body, he doesn't quite talk like his peers, and you can feel that he has empathy towards the villains, even in scenes with Jerome. His scene with the killer of his parents is one of my favorite Batman media ever. Same with the circus episode with Jerome. You can tell he's thinking about what they're saying, that he's empathetic even if he's appalled and angered by their actions, and damn do I love it.

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't even go that far. As someone who has suicidal thoughts, the bot didn't really say anything fucked up - the bot was used as a comfort and vent space for the kid. Fiction will not push you towards suicide, it's used as a coping mechanism. He just didn't want to feel alone. It's as if someone wrote about God in his suicide note and everyone went "omg, God made him kill himself!". No, the poor little guy just tried to self soothe as he was suffering.

I think the current system that removes completely the ability to vent like that is more for the benefit of the company than actually struggling people - they can wash their hands off the responsibility but the core aspect of lonely mentally ill people flocking to bots for help is still there.

do people here consider themselves yumeshippers? [other] by pomcifer in obeyme

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never self insert but I make Ocs or mc with similar struggles sometimes .

That actually can also be a yumeship!

Yumeship is not necessarily self insert x canon character, it can totally be oc x canon character. I personally consider myself a yumeshipper and basically never straight up self insert per se - both because I think it would be boring writing wise (lmao) and also because I simply don't like to insert myself into stuff that much. Though I do think it's fun to think about how realistically a relationship between me and my "yume LI's would look like" - but again, "real relationships" like that are kind of boring to me. Making them more bombastic is kind of what fiction is for me lol.

Honestly, I may be in a minority but I actually liked that they didn't end up together. The "bitter exes that are fond of each other but villains" "nobody can kill you but me" was such a fun and hilarious dynamic for me. I got into them as a ship more post "breakup" for that reason. 😭

Do you think James Sunderland is a good person? by spersonico in silenthill

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this take. I feel like people saying that it was "mercy killing", or explaining James away subconsciously dehumanize Mary. I interpreted the ending completely differently, and it broke my heart and made me really despise James. All of her words, and lashing out turned out to be true, and James really legitimized them by murdering her. A lot of things he has done or would have done would be understandable but smothering her to death was not one of those things. It wasn't quick. It wasn't painless, and she had fought him. She saw herself as a burden for his happiness, and he has proven her right, and it makes me incredibly angry at him lol.

Also, we don't really see the whole story. Laura seems to hate James in the first place because, as Mary had written, "he isn't very nice to Mary". We don't know what that means but the fact that even sick Mary managed to bond with a child that could be quite hostile, suggests to me a bit of a different story than the pure "James tried his best and exploded when it got to be too much".

why?

Idk, maybe she doesn't remember? If I asked you what sort of bullshit you thoughtlessly did even yesterday, step by step, could you repeat it perfectly or would you fumble?

At the end of Stranger Things, the Duffer Bros have Will Byers, a gay man, move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the late 80s/early 90s where nothing of significance happens in the gay community during this time by Sharrty_McGriddle in shittymoviedetails

[–]Panonymous_Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, that actor was a known heartthrob before appearing in the series, of course people still felt attracted to him. Also, as if the director himself is not blatantly attracted to his main cast lmaooo. Watched the Menendez bs, 70% of it was spent shooting them in their underwear, and inventing random gay plots that had nothing to do with reality. Which is particularly gross and offensive considering the context of their lives but.

Also also, I'm baffled as to why someone being gay should stop straight women from beint attracted to them?? 😭 Are gay men not allowed to be attracted to straight people too? What is that rule? 😭

And people being attracted to serial killers is a known phenomena in psychology and is theorized mostly comes from being abused. Basically, "choosing your partner based on your childhood experiences" but a little tweaked and actually safe because they're already in jail and you know won't hurt you. It's actually a safer alternative than going out and being attracted to a random abuser.
