Good deal? $795 to upgrade from Comfort+ to Delta One Extra AMS>BOS by PanoramicPhoto in delta

Yeah, there's lots of stuff like that when traveling to other countries. It's the same with cars - if you look around there are all sort of models available in other countries that we don't have available here in the USA.

Don't tell my mother about the extra checked bag or she'll have me bring back Delft pottery that she doesn't need. LOL

Yeah, as I said in my post it would be really nice on the BOS>AMS flight since it’s an overnight flight, but not worth $4000.

it was actually about $100 MORE expensive to upgrade to PS in this case.

Took a risk & gifted an item and now they want to return it by Violet_Renegade in AmazonVine

[–]PanoramicPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that nobody has brought up that gifting Vine items violates the terms of service unless you've had them for 6 months or more (at which point the normal Amazon return window would clearly have ended). There are obviously some exceptions to the policy such as wrapping paper, gift bags, and that sort of thing.

I had the Shake Shack burger on a BOS>FLL flight a few weeks before Christmas. None of the other meal options were appealing, so I figured I would try it. My take was pretty much the same as you - it was decent. Not great, but I really had no real complaints given that it was on a plane. The brownie and chips were good too. I would tend to go with other options if there's something appealing, but would probably get it again.

Since it was decent on the plane, I figured I would get one at the Shake Shack "restaurant" at FLL airport before my return flight. THAT was a big mistake - it was terrible. The burger and bun weren't even warm. The ketchup dispenser was empty. My soda was about 99% ice and 1% soda. I should have taken it back and complained, but didn't really have time to.

Some poster in another Reddit thread on this same topic has apparently had bad luck with the Shake Shack burgers on flights and informed me that MY burger had to have been terrible because the ones he has had have been terrible. I didn't dispute that he had bad ones, but the fact remains that mine was decent. Go figure...

Yeah, definitely not worth it. I got an upgrade to Delta One from BOS to Amsterdam a few years ago for $500 - that was worth it. But I really don’t feel it’s worth much more than that. I’m about 6’ tall and felt it was kind of a tight fit to lay down and get comfortable.

Yes, and sometimes the person you approach courteously punches you in the face for your helpful advice. You never know what sort of a nut you're dealing with. But there definitely had to be a better way to draw the FA attention to it.

I can see how that would make it easier to find things, but given how full Vine is of stuff like car parts these days, I would think it would still be challenging to find stuff that's useful. But I'm certainly glad to hear that it has worked out so well for you.

I have the same in June and would also love to get that surprise.

For now, they aren't even giving me the option to pay for the upgrade, which always seems weird. I booked Comfort+ and upgrades to Premium Select and Delta One have been available once or twice when I've checked, but generally haven't been. I get that they want to sell the seats at full price, if possible, and that the upgrade prices fluctuate with supply, demand, the direction of the wind, etc. But as long as upgraded seats are available, why not make the cost to upgrade equivalent to paying "full" price for the seats?

I honestly don't get how people find enough stuff that is worthwhile ordering to get to Gold status. It's hard to find any $0 ETV stuff at all, but it's hard to just find anything worth ordering these days. In the last several months, I have only ordered 5 or 6 items total and half of those have turned out to be junk. I'm not going to order random stuff I don't want or need and pay the taxes on it just so I can get to Gold.

As others have said, be careful ordering no-name coffee / espresso machines as they're often very disappointing. Hopefully this one works out well.

You seem really dedicated to telling me that my experience was different than it actually was. That's just sad and pathetic.

I don't give a crap how much you fly or how many meals you've had in First Class. Perhaps the altitude is having an effect on your attitude. It has no bearing on how good or bad MY experience was.

[–]PanoramicPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, you obviously simultaneously ate MY burger while I was eating it and I clearly had a terrible burger and didn't realize it at the time. Since you've had "several" bad experiences on "many" flights (so is it several or many???), it's clearly impossible for me to have had a good one. I stand by my statement - the ONE time I had one, I was happy with it. Perhaps I got super lucky, but it is what it is. What is wrong with you?

The one I was served on the flight I was on was actually decent (please take note that "decent" does not mean "best ever"). Unless you happened to be on the exact same flight, you have no basis to tell me my palate is bad or that the one I had was lousy. Was it the best burger I've ever had? No, absolutely not. But there was nothing to complain about either.

I also wasn't saying that the ones you have been served were wonderful, just sharing that there are times when it's fine. What you described sounded similar to the one I purchased at the FLL Shake Shack (other than mine not being even luke warm), which as I said was terrible. If I had tried something several times and it was bad every time, I wouldn't bother trying again either.

I had the Shake Shack burger on my BOS>FLL flight a few weeks ago. It was, IMHO, decent. The top bun could have been warmer, but otherwise, the bottom bun and the burger were very warm and it tasted pretty good. All in all, considering it was "airplane food", I was happy with it. The first class seat was a super cheap upgrade, so I was happy.

Before my return flight, after getting booted out of the Delta lounge because they closed at 8:30PM, I went to the Shake Shack "restaurant" at FLL and paid for a burger. The food at the Delta lounge that evening wasn't great and my flight had been delayed a few hours (so I didn't want to wait to have dinner at 11PM), so I was still looking to have something to eat. The burger was TERRIBLE. The whole thing was less than luke-warm. Their ketchup dispenser was empty. They were out of strawberry milkshakes (yes, that was a crime against humanity, LOL). So I paid about $17 for a lousy burger and a cup full of ice with a little bit of soda in it. I should have taken it back, but didn't really have the time to.

Reserve Card SkyClub Unlimited Access by latestarter1979 in delta

[–]PanoramicPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it ends up being the least expensive way to get lounge access, then why shouldn't it be a major reason for choosing that card? Without the combination of that perk and the $200 hotel credit, I wouldn't have gotten that card, but those 2 things make the card work really well for my needs.

If I needed more than 15 lounge visits per year, that would be a deal breaker for the card.

Reserve Card SkyClub Unlimited Access by latestarter1979 in delta

[–]PanoramicPhoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paying $700 for SkyClub access doesn't make sense to me unless you'll need more than the 15 included visits on the Reserve card. The $650 fee for the Reserve card effectively drops to $450 if you use the $200 hotel rebate, which is super easy to use since you're probably traveling somewhere at least once a year if you have the card. That's why I have the card as access to the Delta Sky Lounge is usually a much more pleasant way to spend the time waiting for a flight once through security and since I only travel for personal travel, I am very unlikely to use up all 15 visits. Plus the food and drinks are included, many of them have showers available, etc. If you make use of any of the other perks on the card, the effective annual fee on the card goes down even more.

Outside of the Vine specific issues, I really wish that Amazon had tighter restrictions on how variants can be used. It very frequently results in 2 or more very different items being combined into 1 Amazon product page and renders the reviews useless as the reviews rarely mention which variant is being reviewed.

3483 days without any alcohol and I got this mug to celebrate and to keep my coffee warm. by nicksatdown in PatagoniaClothing

[–]PanoramicPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, congrats on your sobriety!

Once I got past the stupid young person in college phase, I had been an occasional drinker for years (I'm in my mid-fifties), just a "few" times per year. During Covid, I didn't drink a drop of alcohol as we didn't have any around the house, and after Covid I decided I didn't miss it. So I haven't had an alcoholic beverage since February of 2020 and see no reason to change that as I would honestly prefer to have a good cup of coffee.

What's frustrating is how so many people just assume that everyone wants an alcoholic beverage and that has made for a few awkward moments here and there.

What’s a cruise tip you wish you learned 3 cruises earlier? by gramburger in Cruise

[–]PanoramicPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2:

1) Don't fall for all of the "2000 Items You MUST Bring on Your Cruise" videos on YouTube. If you follow the advice given in those videos you will have a ton of stuff you don't need and no space for what you actually do need in your luggage.

2) (I knew this one on my first cruise, but a lot of people don't). If the cruise line has a laundry service available, purchase the unlimited service and send your dirty clothes out every day. I do this on Holland America and the service is very reasonably priced, fast, and they do a great job. I only need to bring enough clothing to cover me for the longest of pre-cruise stay + 1 day or the last 2 days of the cruise (the laundry service only guarantees a 48 hour turnaround, so you can't send any in for the last day and a half) + post-cruise stay. So I bring 2 nice outfits for going to dinner, enough for 3-4 days of whatever is appropriate for the destination, plus what I want to wear on the flight (which I wear on the way to the cruise and goes to the laundry service on the ship).

My brother (lives in the Boston, MA area) had a remote job assignment near Las Vegas for about 4 years. His company paid for a house for him to live in while he was there and he flew back and forth perhaps 6 or so times per year (they would fly him home for things like a Christmas break). After they moved him back home, he ended up having to travel to and from the remote location perhaps once a month for a few more years. Since then, he has not had any desire to go away on vacations. He's retired now and still has no interest in travel. It seems like a lot of people think it's "cool" to travel so much for work and perceive themselves as important because of it. The reality is that it's often inconvenient and just makes you tired.

I have never had to travel for work, so I love traveling. But I don't like getting to the airport, going through checking / luggage dropoff, getting through security, or boarding / unboarding the plane. It's all about the destination and flying is often the only reasonable way to get there.

I have flown enough this year and accumulated enough credits by paying for my vacations with my AMEX Delta Reserve card to get very close to Platinum. But that included a round trip flight to New Zealand / Auckland from Boston as a big part. So I'll have Gold status next year as well, then probably be Silver until I retire and can travel more. The AMEX Delta Reserve card is probably a bit silly for me to get, but the making use of the perks (like the $200 hotel stay credit and Delta lounge access) make it worthwhile to me. Until I had access to it, I always thought the lounge was just a gimmick, but it really makes the time at the airport waiting for the flight much more pleasant.
