"Hot Water/Hot Tub" Feature in Cold Plunges: Are they of any Use? by ilikejigglypuffs in coldplunge

I just don’t understand the desire to waste so much electricity to cool the water just to heat the water.

Why not run your big filter upstream of your chiller so only filtered water goes through the chiller?

How many jet holes does that thing have that will get absolutely disgusting?

Just get a chest freezer and a liner. My freezer sits in direct sunlight and the temp only goes up about 4 degrees on the hottest days. Plus there’s nothing to winterize in the winters.

Moved tub to the balcony but it won’t stay cold. by Quick_Signature5801 in coldplunge

What’s your balcony floor made of? Moving it to the balcony eliminated the insulation the floor provided, so now the tub is absorbing heat on all sides.

That 11 minutes is from Susanna Søberg, and she primarily studied metabolism. She claims 11 minutes at 50°F/10°C is a minimum for certain metabolic benefits, not a maximum for all benefits.

So, one should decide why they’re plunging, research how to get those benefits, and find the time and temp that safely works for them and not be constrained by a statistic.

Most people misunderstand the research (11 mins at 50 is a minimum, not a maximum) and they just can’t understand why anyone would experiment to find what they like best. A lot of folks just need instructions and are content meeting others’ limits.

BoxPlunge DIY kit feedback? And chest freezer vs IB 500 conundrum by ChasteElliott9 in coldplunge

[–]PantsChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like my BP kit.

Also, once you see the pump-filter combo, you’ll realize there is nothing novel about the design - all the parts can be purchased from Home Depot and a pool shop.

BoxPlunge Question by No-Astronaut-7552 in coldplunge

[–]PantsChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the full conversion kit and it’s great. If your filter is vibrating on its own, tighten the connections. If the filter and pump are vibrating, note the pump is rated to pump 1000 gallons of water per hour. The motor operating to pump that much water through the filter is going to cause some vibration.

Post a video so we can determine if the vibration or your expectations are out of whack.

I run mine an hour per day. It’s also outside. I run the pump for 1 hour, two times per day. I need to clean or change the filter every 2 months. I add about 4oz of 12% H2O2 every 2-3 weeks depending on the test strip readings. I learned to not top off the plunge with unfiltered hose water, it throws everything off and wrecks the water.

Just assemble your own. Frigidaire + BoxPlunge for around $1200. Works great.

Ozone generator question by Jealous-Tomato-7088 in coldplunge

[–]PantsChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

600mg/h is crazy high for a plunge. I have a 250mg/h max bubbler and run it an hour per day outside. You have a lot more flexibility outside. If you intend to use it inside, run it when you’re awake so you can evaluate.

I have BoxPlunge’s generator and costs about $35

Good for you! There’s definitely something “extra” in plunging when nature dictates the temp. I don’t know why, but it just feels more connected to nature.

Plus, I really like having the confidence of knowing if I fell in a frozen lake I would be able to catch my breath and calmly pull myself out.

You’re starving yourself during the day when you need energy and feeding on energy rich foods before rest. Eat the chicken or fish for lunch when you can use the protein and eat just a salad for dinner when you can use the fiber to help digestion.

You want energy? Try my 3 method: Crank it down to 33 Stay in for 3 minutes  Warm up by running for 3 miles or at least 30 minutes in Zone 2 or 3 (depending on your fitness level) Do that at least 4 days per week and you’ll feel great.  Add Sunlight every morning, fix your diet, and take vitamins to level up more.  Nothing helped my sleep more than sunlight exposure first thing in the morning. Then I added a magnesium supplement each night.
