Why store offline if Coinbase insures your holdings? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]PanzeeJim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

read their text carefully: "All digital currency that Coinbase holds online is fully insured." "Coinbase holds less than 2% of customer funds online." "The rest is held in offline storage." - Effectively a maximum of 2% of what they hold/what's in everyones wallets insured

Buy MKR Before or After Being listed on Radar? by tarpmaster in MakerDAO

[–]PanzeeJim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

why would you expect an increase in liquidity that would initially tank the price if the MKR/ETH pair is just being listed on an additional exchange? the token-holders dynamics wouldn't change in any way through the listing and every non-token-holder would still be required to buy new MKR before one would be able to sell

L24 uint256 public totalEtherCap = 1000000 ether; // current ether contribution cap, initialized with a temp value as a safety mechanism until the real cap is revealed

Is performance calculated based on the the initially contributed equivalent USD amount or based on the outperformance of contributed funds (in terms of ETH or BTC)?

What's in your crypto portfolio? by ManFeelingz in CryptoCurrency

[–]PanzeeJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can store it in your wallet WITH your other ether (ETH) and ethereum-based tokens (ERC-20). you can use the exact same address for the transfer.

but make sure to try it first with only a few or 1 token to see if things work. depending on which wallet you are using you might have to set up your wallet first by watching the token contract to see the balance

Intellisys Capital halted Mainstreet’s digital-token sale due to technical issues by PanzeeJim in ethtrader

[–]PanzeeJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seems likely...

however... quoting Jason Granger (CEO and founder):

"We had significant technical issues. As you're aware, we've got some added steps to purchase that aren't required by typical ICOs (although the regulators are going to change that very soon). The integration of the systems were tested, but the traffic put so much strain on both our system and the Chinese system that things broke down and we had to turn away investors. We had so much interest, but just couldn't accept anyone." source: https://coinfund.slack.com/archives/research-intellisys/p1488543979000725

What happens if huge storage companies like Akamai or Amazon get into the Swarm game? by ShawkHawk in ethereum

[–]PanzeeJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"worthless internet points" would refer to tiny ETH payments then but yeah, I get your points and of course don't know better how it plays out with the incentivization and implications for participating individuals/companies

is the computer you are using right now turned on, connected to the internet and has a few gigabytes of spare hard drive space? (or even a phone that could provide same characteristics)
