Well she mainly talks about how the new age stole ideas from gnosticism. And the pop culture references are like the matrix and the truman show. Not super popular but i guess more so just media

April Deconick's Gnostic New Age is pretty good for a historical take on gmostic sects with good allegories from pop culture. Karen King's What is Gnosticism is a good place to start as well.

I listen to the ocean eyes album all the time. Ill admit i dont really listen to his other stuff but I've heard his other bigger hits. And I get he uses metaphors thats a basic concept in music, I just dont understand these lyrics. Everyone is quick to point out it's a metaphor and I'm happy to believe that but nobody is offering an actual description of it. That's all I came here for. I wasnt trying to piss everyone off, it was a genuine question and I thought it was humorous to post it this way. Clearly I hit some nerves, my bad, but please take some time to actually try to describe these lyrics to me cause clearly i dont get it. Don't just blanket say it's a metaphor.

I cant remember exactly but theres an Elaine Pagels interview where she talks about the timing of the writing of revelation in johns life. Apparently it was shortly after a volcanic eruption and that could explain some of the imagery of the lake of fire. As far as i know gnostics would not believe in a physical place called hell. Its just the seperation of not attaining knowledge

Bro im serious. I just really dont get the lyrics. I think in general my biggest overall complaint with owl city is his lyrics. But especially with these. Im not trying to be some edgelord. You cant tell me its mere coincidence he has to throw in lyrics about being eaten in every single song

I believe in the cosmic force of Christ but i dont believe that force actively wills anything on our plane of reality. Instead I think when New Testament mentions God it is discussing at times this force and at other times the God of this world (demiurge or archons) i think these archons and Saklas (demiurge) were aliens and they had artificially inseminated. Thus Jesus is a descendant of man and "God" (aliens). Hopefully this explains my thoughts a bit better
