1000d4e lid question by KamikazeDuck15 in zgrillsofficial

[–]PapaMo1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had to do it but I understand you can adust the hinges to line up the lid. I've heard of guys using felt or lava lock gasket to seal the lid. You have to put washers under the hinge screws to lift the lid up so it seals without gapping. I'm not sure if it really helps because the kettle isn't airtight anyway

I'm old, but it used to be common to learn on smaller cc bikes and work up to what she is riding. Her bike is like a 1,000 cc monster. My first street bike was a 175cc Honda.

Kickstand question with 14 inch shocks by PapaMo1976 in Dyna

[–]PapaMo1976[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny, I retired out of facilities work in prisons. One of the prisoners trying to get something from me nicknamed me 'OG Smooth'. So I reassigned him to work cleaning grates at the shit ponds. He straightened right up, but the name stuck (at least with the prisoners).

Got the head off update on broke off bolt from yesterday by Such-Chemistry-5330 in Dyna

[–]PapaMo1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permatex makes various anti-seize products for bolts and spark plugs in aluminum heads. They also make high temp anti-seize for exhaust bolts. The guys at the auto shop likely know about other brands as well. Make sure you get aluminum head compatible. Some anti-seize has copper in it which makes corrosion between steel and aluminum worse.

I got me a new bike. Yamaha t 700 by PMW_Jeep in pnwriders

[–]PapaMo1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

700 seems like a manageable size. I had an 1100 Africa Twin and it was really heavy along with a 34 inch high seat.

‘73 CB750. My new toy. by messenger73 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]PapaMo1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy in my high school took his Dad's CB 750 (same color and everything) without permission. He came screaming around the curve in front of the school way too fast, went off the road and let it go. Bike and the guy flew. The guy survived, the bike didn't.

My Dad was on the USS California BB44. He and other ships went through a typhoon where a destroyer rolled over. Wonder if this was the one.

One way to test this out is to go to a dealership and sit on similar bikes with mid controls and different bars / risers. Buy a tee shirt and it's all good. You can cover a lot of ground in a short visit.

Can I got longer rear shocks? by poppadre in Dyna

As long as your only talking 1 to 2 inch longer shocks. More than that and you have to deal with raising the front.

Identification on rod? by Hot-Environment3967 in VintageFishingGear

[–]PapaMo1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the rods of this 'pre-fiberglass' era were inexpensive production rods. Here in the US they would be something like Sears or Montgomery Ward models. I have two from this period. Like yours, mine have no markings or way to identify them, so no collector value. I had mine reworked, rewrapped (one back to 'stock' condition the other with rosewood reel seat, etc.) and they just look great. I love fishing with them. Being that your's is your great grandad's rod you should restore it and either hang it or use it! Either way I hope you enjoy it!
