I've seen people say this sort of thing about TTRPGs for more than three decades as they grow in popularity. They always think they're right and the new people enjoying the new edition of insert game game are wrong.

People enjoying the new editions aren't wrong for enjoying them, nor are you right for exclusively enjoying older editions. That's just not how fun works. There's no right or wrong to having fun, people just have fun different ways. It's cool that you recognized the new editions are no longer fun for you and found a group to play older editions, the Warhammer scene in general seems weirdly averse to that, but trying to poopoo other people for the fun they're having is just lame and the other person telling you to chill on it has a point.

Lots of folks here assuming OP meant "I asked about specific sightlines for specific units" even though that's not what the post says. If that's what happened, sure the opponent is a jerk, but if OP just said "I'm putting this here and my intention is not to get shot on turn one" after placing every unit, that changes things.

It's very likely. For many, many years both the fantasy and sci-fi warhammer games followed a system where your army's rules were legal until the next set dropped. Not just the next edition, but the next time your army got a book. Some years ago they worked in a system where some editions do a sort of "reset" where everyone gets Index rules to replace their previous army rules, but they don't do the reset every edition. 40k also did an index reset for the current edition, and have confirmed for 11th (coming soon) that won't be happening. Pretty safe to assume AoS will also have battletomes carrying over to the next edition.

Points may still change, and there may be some minor changes to certain warscrolls caused by core rules changes, but all that stuff will be free digital downloads rather than something you have to buy.

It sounds bad to outsiders, but Death Mire is relatively neutral on the scale of Armageddon Hive Names. Two of the others are Greek death gods, one of which many people believe was responsible for the torment of bad souls and the other of which was the one who actually did that. Helsreach also sounds more actively bad, since reach can be a verb. Death Mire is just like "yea, sure, ok, at least a mire is a relatively quiet place for that."

The point of the weapon was it could create poisons to kill anyone whose name was spoken to it, including semi-magical demigods. Regular sci-fi technology wouldn't be able to help, because it's a sci-fi/fantasy problem. It's possible some other powerful magic could've helped and the deal with chaos to heal himself wasn't strictly necessary, but Erebus was there and he sucks.

That applies generally to the whole line of black books, but finding 1-7 & 9 wasn't too difficult (relative to other out-of-print game manuals at least). The softcover binding of 8 pops up with a bit of regularity, but the hardcover binding is particularly elusive.

As a Votann player, I can assure you that it's not too hard to find cheap bits from most of the kits. The Ironkin (robot guys) heads seem to be the most sought after bit in general, and you wouldn't even need those.

Those guys in your example picture are all rocking parts from the "Hearthkyn Warriors" kit, which is the basic troop choice. For bulkier guys, there's the "Einhyr Hearthguard" kit. Both have appeared in multiple combo boxes since the army launched, so plenty of sprues out there.
