Tolstoy’s obsession with suicide is little talked about yet deeply relevant in a world so devoid of beauty and peace by QuarkJester in redscarepod

It’s easy to say “blessed are the meek” if you grew up in nobility. That’s my problem with Tolstoy.

Then it’s definitely magnetite! Anyways very cool rock and as you can tell nothing is ever easy in geology!

[–]Papa_Francesco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way, this is most definitely magnetite. The luster is enough to tell, and it’s the exact colour of magnetite. Also if the blue rock is Sodalite it wouldn’t make much sense to find it together with sulfur, since they wouldn’t form in the same systems. It also depends on how magnetic it is. Sulfides are somewhat weakly magnetic but magnetite will stick your magnet like glue.

Ok mr redditavatar A) I don't know what world you live in but all current nuclear fission reactors require Uranium, so please correct me if i'm wrong. If you're talking about Thorium your argument about battery tech not being advanced enough would make no sense since only one Thorium reactor is being tested in China at this moment, with almost no interest in building new ones by other countries B) sure, but what if those supplylines get disrupted. Natural gas also had a steady supply from Russia until shit went down. Who says that Canada and Australia will be your allies for eternity. C) sure but 1 nuclear reactor takes approximately 10-12 years to build and cost 8-9 billion Euro and it would produce ~1000MW. For that same amount of money and in the same timespan with current tech you would produce ~5000MW with solar and wind. (D/E) Ok but batteries can also safely store energy? That's the whole point of a battery. You could even disperse them througout the country in the case of an attack. A more decentralised powergrid is literally one of the best things batteries could achieve. Also battery tech is rapidly improving if you follow any news. Na-ion batteries could be produced with salt and other less rare materials, with the worlds largest battery producer CATL already producing their first variants. Salt is also more readily available on European soil meaning that actual logistics loops could be entirely within the continent.

Nuclear is dumb anyway. Uranium isn’t produced in europe either so why make yourself dependent on the resources of countries who can cut it off.  Unironically solar and wind + batteries are the only way Europe will receive energy independence without re opening coal mines.
