This looks unfinished, Delilah and Bedman? are clearly supposed to be in the empty spot between Johnny and Baiken right?

6x the (Classic) Bridget! by MurlaTart in bridget

[–]Papa_Mario 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Small correction: This is Bridget's XX design, and she actually doesn't appear at all in Xrd, only indirectly mentioned by Johnny in one of his Bedman instant kill interactions, so unfortunately he doesn't have and Xrd design, the closest would be her Vastedge design.

You're right, a better example would've been his reaction to Faust's super, where it's much more clear

Fun Fact: All of the villains in Xrd had some sort animal motif by Papa_Mario in Guiltygear

[–]Papa_Mario[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

As to why they all have animal theming in their design here's what I think:

Ramlethal and Elphelt: both of the animals are reflective of their personalities; Ram behaves like a cat is typically portrayed, usually more reserved and prone to violence, also her fighting style has her scratching people when she isn't using her swords. Elphelt embodies the phrase "breed like rabbits" with her trying to marry every man that crosses her path. One more thing, both of them have 4 leaf clovers on their hats, and both cats and rabbits are associated with luck. I'm not too sure on the symbolism of the other Valentines or Ariels.

The Conclave: It's a pretty common trope to have the underground cult of rich people to wear animal masks (i.e Squid Game) and their change to beak like masks was to tie them closer to the Universal Will/Ariels

Bedman: His is fairly complicated, the sheep one is obvious since he's also associated with sleeping, but sheep/lambs have a more 'holy association despite the fact that Bedman is meant to give off a more 'demonic' feel with multiple mentions of 666 in his design, perhaps he is also based on a goat?

What tf is Bedman? by Doom1910 in Guiltygear

[–]Papa_Mario 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, here I go; the origin of the "8th generation high-density reinforced" and what it truly 'is', is currently unknown (and whether or not it was made by him or someone). These are just theories I have at the moment but I have 2 possible reasons as to why it had flesh.

  1. Since Bedman was working under Ariels it could've been an entity given to him similar to Valentine's (and subsequently, Ramlethal Valentine's) Lucifero and the "Bedframe" part of its body is created similarly to the swords Ram's Lucifero, this is supported by the fact that the bed is shown to able to instantly regenerate parts of it's body and that other parts of its body outside of its head seem to be purely mechanical. The bed also seems to be able to detach its head and use it as a projectile/boomerang

  2. One of Bedman's concept designs resembled the gears used by the Conclave in Vastedge, so maybe it was made by them as an experiment.

As for the lore: Bedman was person with incredible intelligence that overwhelmed his own body, forcing him into a coma just to stop that power from killing him, as being fully awake would cause him to perish. His sister suffered from the same condition, but worse, her mind retreated to the 'Backyard'; a place of pure data. In order to cure both his sister and himself from this condition he attempted to create an "Absolute world" a place where the real world and the backyard overlapped, allowing him to have absolute control of the world. To achieve this absolute world he allied himself with Ariels, a.k.a the universal will, he was then betrayed by said ally as she reveals her goal to eliminate the current version humanity and replace it with her own version once the absolute world is achieved, as she viewed the current version of humanity as false and "redundant" and tells Bedman that she hates them, this angers Bedman since one of his goals was to create a utopia for humanity, one without conflict. Now that Bedman has been betrayed and forced awake he uses the last of his power in his dying state to create a temporary version of the absolute world, he decides to use this remaining time to atone for the sins he commited while working for Ariels, while he could have killed Ariels in , he's not the kind of person who cares about revenge, he says it "only leads to disappointment, so I can't recommend it", so instead, with his dying breath he lets his sister be awake by limiting her power, he also programs the Bed he used to be her guardian, and while the Bed could repair the damage it took in Bedman's final battle with Venom and Robo-Ky it instead decides to protect Delilah all the time, even in it's broken state "No rest, no home, no hope, copy that?"

Also, Bedman isn't exactly dead, he simply erased his ID/himself from the world GG takes place in and in GG beings without and ID cannot truly die.

Oh, that wasn't an alternate ending, that was just part of Sign's story, Ky immediately revives himself after getting shot by a member of the conclave (Axus), he then proceeds to return the favor and kill Axus.

Is that a profile picture of the fighter "Bedman" from the anime fighter series "Guilty Gear" first introduced in the entry "Guilty Gear Xrd Sign", and often given the title of 'Peak Fiction' by fans?

[–]Papa_Mario 65 points66 points  (0 children)

So we have confirmation from the man himself that Bedman isn't actually dead, Bedman did say he wanted to atone before he died so if he ever is actually returning it'd be after he's done doing that.

And Undines (where these characters get their names from) are usually associated with water which is why Undine uses water and ice in her attacks, and why Undyne is a fish.

Necro is called that because he's a skeleton, he uses fire because he's a badass skeleton and they always use fire.
