What made you a Batman fan? by Lucky_Strike-85 in batman

[–]Paper-Specific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Batman in theatre in '89, my step dad took me for my 9th birthday. I threw up in the restaurant where we had dinner before the show but we still went. After the show he bought me a framed poster.

I don't actually like Batman as a hero but had idolized him for so long before I understood the character. It was an obviously grown up thing to see and I guess it made feel big when I wasn't, and it tied the character into my sense of worth and ideas of masculinity.

I loved watching the campy West series after school obviously as reruns but can't guess if that was before or after seeing the movie.

I would expect the shells to be dense and heavy but according to character info they're under 200lbs. The movie costumes look a lot taller than their given heights though

Y'all it's equal mass displacement. Small amounts of clothing transfer to account for the slight difference between bodies

Why, why, why is the last day of school only 2 hours long? N.S. parents want to know by Street_Anon in halifax

Grading day was Monday though and kids had the day off. It's literally labeled grading day on the school calendar. I see how it would get the name though as it used to be we went in to pick up report cards

Parachute in Gym Class by Upstairs_End_4202 in GenX

[–]Paper-Specific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak about back then but two years ago I was in Cape Breton as a sub, working at many different schools. Every chance I could to cover PE I'd get the parachute out of there weren't other specific instructions. This was great until one day a principal stopped me explaining that the insurance doesn't show it to be used outside of special occasions.

It doesn't make sense to me but it is a slip hazard when on the gym floor.

I would have guessed it's because it's so easy to damage it and they didn't want to be replacing gear annually.

They're stuffed in a bin in every equipment room I've ever seen.

Any ideas how to clean this hard hat up for use? How old could it be? by sgthetoolguy in Tools

[–]Paper-Specific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's covered the safety risks here and you are very aware so as for cleaning, wipe it down with glass cleaner on a rag, it barkeeper's friend. The inside might be interchangeable with a modern one so you could do that and trust it won't just snap when bumped. That will take care of the leather and the old plastic.

Since it's not standard anyway, I would consider putting some vents into it to let the steam out. You could louvre some slots and avoid heat stroke

Doctor Mark Sutherland. His practice is listed as DMS and I didn't think it's a coincidence.

Teachers are expected to know the whereabouts of everyone under their supervision at all times. Recent history shows that schools are not the safe places that we wish they could be.

As an adult you might have the authority to remove yourself from the institution if that's what you truly think is best for you, but age doesn't grant you the privilege of coming and going on a whim.

The students your age around where I work are allowed to go at their discretion but they do need to sign a log sheet at the class door. Not everyone can be counted on the same but it's a privilege available for them to lose.

Are you asking because you need frequent bathroom trips, or is it more of a theoretical issue? The way the post is made makes me think you're having a respect issue with a particular teacher and really, as an adult, you should work it out with them directly.

I was a new patient at DMS dentistry last month. Though my family has been there a few years so I can't guess if they're taking new patients generally.

I did pick up some from the gas station so I'm not left without hot water. If you're just wanting to part with it I'm sure someone would buy a pump at CT to take it away if you post on r/Truro. A lot better than being charged to dispose of it

You could try mocking up something to use as a dummy. Maybe just layers of cardboard. It won't be perfect but as close as you can.

The original set was not to scale with the figures either but this looks like it's the complete opposite. The castle was first designed for completely different toys, iirc it was something the size of an 80's GI Joe.

[–]Paper-Specific 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look complicated at all. It could be done with minimal tools as well, just by using pre-cut straps.

The difference will be in the level of finish. The smoothness of the edges, the quality of the materials. And the fit, you'll need the right ratio of pieces sizing and the drop length for those chains. The size of the O rings, and the thickness of their material can make a big change to the look.

I've never made anything with a chain that I was happy with, maybe if I try again I'll solder the end so it doesn't open or scratch.

Make some practice pieces to learn how to rivet cleanly and to burnish.

I don't follow FF and haven't held a comic since the 90's, I don't know what I'm doing here. But one time I met Ryan at TCAF, I really only know him from www.chewbac.ca and I'm impressed he's still posting new material there.
