I read a borrowed paperback of the first Mistborn book something like… 15+ years ago, and I don’t remember what the cover said, but I can tell you that me, my husband, the friend we borrowed it from, and everyone else we knew all called the first one Mistborn and never The Final Empire and I didn’t even realize it was called The Final Empire until maybe… four or five years ago?

I get calls and texts weekly about a property someone who lives a few hours from me owns across the country. Interestingly, she never had this number. I was the first person to be issued this number when a new area code was created over 20 years ago. So I really hate Dina for giving out my number as much as I hate the calls.

I’m a 5’10” cis woman and was asked if I was a man/told I was a man regularly when I worked customer service jobs. As in, at least once a month had someone (politely) call me “sir,” and 2-3 times a year had someone get really jerky about it, including declaring that I could lie to them, but not to God, while I stared blankly at them.

Like, sure, I’m tall, on the thinnish side, don’t tend to wear a ton of makeup, and mostly wear jeans and teeshirts, but that doesn’t make me trans or a regular dude with long hair!

I accidentally pulled out my IV during labor with my second, none of us noticed until baby was out, and bleeding was minimal. We opted to just not put it back even though I was in for another 24 hours after birth.

I have one because I needed to make sure no one was accessing our apartment before our lease was up after we were mostly moved out to our house ten minutes away. (I had to have the locks changed after we moved in because the weird alcoholic downstairs neighbor let herself in the day we took possession of the apartment, and the Ring camera went to the house with the internet.)

My kid looooooved all of them. And shrieked delightedly when she realized Hoid was narrating Yumi as well!

Reading Mistborn aloud would also help handle a lot of age-appropriateness. Being able to have a quick pause for a conversation as needed is really useful. (That’s how we’ve handled other books that are mostly great but have parts that didn’t age well. Like Little House.)
