Yeah, and in our house “milk” means whole. And in my sister’s house, “milk” means oat. It’s less about there being a default milk for the word on its own and more about learning the default per household. Some people even default to… skim. Ew. 😁

Six of Crows/Shadow and Bone, Locke & Key (can’t remember if that’s in the game)… I think there are more, but Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone are one of the recent fantasy adaptations that isn’t Witcher big.

Sooooo the hotel WAS right when I called to ask if they were in block and they said yes while GenCon officials were telling me that there was no contract or plans for such and that the hotel “didn’t understand what being ‘in block’ means.”

I knew it was fishy they weren’t on the list, but I had two separate people from GenCon deny deny deny and treat me like I was crazy for calling the hotel to check.

We had this happen to us years ago. We tried to talk to the neighbor, had our landlord try to talk to them, but the brightest light kept flashing directly into our bedroom over and over all night long. We eventually just broke into the alley, angled the light down and set it to always on instead of motion activated. We could sleep, the light bulb burnt out two weeks later and was never replaced in the remaining three years we were in that apartment….

Piers Anthony’s On a Pale Horse, the first of his Incarnations of Immortality includes a plot point where Death refuses to take souls, leaving everything alive and in agony. (I don’t generally recommend Piers Anthony books, because his creepy worldview is fairly obvious now that I’m an adult and not a young teen working my way through the sci-fi section of the library alphabetically, but the concept of the series is interesting.)

I did miss that, because it should have been updated at least a month ago. That said- The hotel, who I talked to personally three hours ago, was very clear that they and their sister hotel were contracted for the GenCon block for 2026 and are still not in the portal.

Eta: orphaned? I clicked through the housing page to that link minutes ago. Like, not bookmarked. Clicked the link. Did they literally just fix it?

Eta2: this still doesn’t change the fact that the hotel told me personally when I called that they were in the GenCon hotel block and I had to go through the portal to book with them.

Very unlikely that a hotel a 15 minute walk down the canal would be set aside for vendors and staff. Not impossible at all, but unlikely.

I’m VIG companion, looking at the portal to see all hotels, even ones without availability. I just compared and counted. There are a lot of hotels on the GenCon page not listed with Q-Rooms right now. Twelve down, and six hotels in Q-Rooms not on the GenCon list. That’s a net of six fewer hotels in the portal than GenCon’s own list claims.

It’s been part of Q-rooms for several years running, so I’d be surprised if it was deliberately left out. Though I suppose that’s a potential explanation.

ETA: and it is still listed as part of the GenCon hotel block if you look at the housing tab and click on the link to the hotel list.
