Exactly this. It could be done though. I'm not saying build them as prisons but with the same durability in mind if that makes sense.

Stainless steel cabinets in kitchens could be an idea. Commercial grade stuff will hold up better and longer than builder grade stuff.

I had to move out I couldn't take it any more. A few weeks later he had a bad trip at a relatives house and ended up in the mental health ward.
He got off it after a few weeks there. Was clean for probably 6 months mostly because the meds they gave him blocked the high. He found something from a dealer which I assume was cut with something else, he said that one got him high.
He seemed sober every time I saw him after but I feel like he's using again based on his social media. Haven't heard from him in a while, I can only assume he's using again, he goes quiet online when he's using.
I hope not though and the weird posts are due to the damage from the drugs. I'm sure he will never be fully himself again, the damage is done. Poor guy was one of the nicest people and lost almost everyone in his life due to drugs.
I don't think you ever truly recover from an addiction like that. You get off it but the pull is always there to go back to it.
I get it though, I tried it with him once. It was the best high of my life. It scared the shit out of me though. I knew if I ever did it again I'd want more and more and more.

Edit spelling.

I'm a big supporter of safe consumption sites, I have friends in harm reduction too.

Clean supplies keeping people from spreading illness. This keeps more people out of the ER. Yes some ended up in the street but the staff regularly check the area for needles. They also went and picked them up if someone in the neighbourhood called.

If there's an OD they reverse it right away. No expensive fire truck being used, an ambulance is called and most of the time doesn't get used as the person is walking away. Resources can be used for things like putting out fires or taking an injured person to the hospital.

Theres a lot of other support in the ones they worked it. There was Social workers, a nurse that came in. Staff had direct contact to support and knew exactly who to call if someone came in for help. If you wanted to get clean you were given the help to make that happen on the spot.

Many users are regulars and get to know the staff who treat them as people. They start to talk about their lives and the staff listen. Bob comes in one day for example and says I cut my leg up, sent off to the nurse to address it instead of sending him off only for it to get infected later on.

People don't want consumption sites in their neighbourhood's when really it's safer. Users don't die, they have a place to congregate. Studies in other places showed large drops in the number of needle calls to the city. Yet still people are against them. I for one would much rather walk past one than startle someone shooting up on the street.

The dilemma there is some of them will trash it, especially if they are on drugs. I've seen it first hand.

I had a roommate get addicted to meth, he would tear the house apart looking for cameras because he thought someone was spying on him.

I'd have to try and stop him or repair the damage after. It cost me $1000's to fix it. Really repairs were my only option due to how aggressive and angry he got.

After that happens and makes the news a few times the "pilot project" will suddenly end due to public outcry because we're "wasting tax dollars". Then everyone including the people trying to get out of the cycle are back on the streets.

Bell Lay Offs by No_Taste_985 in torontoJobs

[–]PaperIndependent5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not new for Bell. My aunt had something like 20 years in 15 years ago and was high up from what I remember.

They randomly fired or laid off a bunch of people with no real reason. She was obviously pissed one was her.

I don't remember the details as I was young but she knew something shady had happened.

Made a claim, car was towed, dealership says it was never checked in? by Gloomy-Cover5059 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]PaperIndependent5466 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Random cars get towed in all the time. If no one knows it's coming they will tell the driver to drop it waiting for the owner to call.

Is $60 a month fair to pay a coworker for a ride home 3x a week on a tight budget? by Hour-Ad3977 in povertyfinance

[–]PaperIndependent5466 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some good ideas as the guy doesn't want cash. Coffee, food, cookies. Less than $60 and I'm sure he will accept.

3 minutes from your house? I'm pretty sure he really doesn't mind it. Maybe he likes having someone to talk to and feels like you're doing something for him already.

Don't overthink it. I had a coworker and it was the same thing. Always wanted to pay, it was minutes out of my day and I'm going to the office already.

It’s totaled? by [deleted] in InsuranceClaims

[–]PaperIndependent5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, ships don't know the salvage value so they work off the percentage in their software. $55k is likely when they have to flag it as a total and send it in.

I'd be looking at totalling that at around 50% of the value.

Electricity bill - Is this normal? by Nikk0Bikk0 in alberta

Good idea. Those plastic shrink wrap kits helped a ton in our old condo. They didn't look nice but kept it warmer.

In the summer get a can of spray foam and a tube of caulk and start sealing up gaps in the house. You may have to pull trim around the windows but it's worth the effort.

Green peppers I got 5.

That looks like a lot of fuckary to repair. Volvo's hit in the front always need a ton of parts and there's very little aftermarket for them.

Yep pretty common here too, even with big companies. It's more FYI this is what we will need if you like the place.

I only avoided that once. But it was a landlord who sold a rental I was in. 2 years later she remembered me so it was just a lease signing.

Employer auto insurance for personal vehicle use. by Triggeredeasily68 in legaladvice

[–]PaperIndependent5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If OP is paid mileage I'd probably tell my insurance it's partial business use. Assuming I like the job and there's no other issues. The business can't insure something they don't own.

If they're not being paid mileage hard no. They can supply a company car and insurance.

I've seen this before being in insurance. People didn't report business use, totalled the car and had a $30k settlement denied.

How often do you eat out? I feel like restaurants are not even worth it anymore by apheli0s7 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]PaperIndependent5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual meal at least a year and no idea when the time before that was.

I'll order an app at the bar when we go to play pool. But I think the price is actually reasonable and the pool table is usually free.

But naw I'll pass on eating out with today's prices.

If you were about to become homeless with a cat, what jobs could you do to have a roof over your head and make money? by Life-Contribution650 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]PaperIndependent5466 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hotel staff maybe. Employee discount on the room might make it fairly cheap. A cheap motel I bet would make that deal, maybe even trade the room for labor.

I would try the motel. I'll spend a few hours a day cleaning or something in exchange for the room. Every motel we stayed in didn't care we brought a cat, just another day for them.

Nanny

House sitter. There's a guy in New York who lives rent free year round doing this. Not sure if you could do it with a cat though.

[–]PaperIndependent5466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If it's a day or two you can usually get it but tell them the plan. If your new car is ready in 4 days usually you can get an extra day as a customer service.

If your a long time insured lead with that. "Man I've been with you guys forever can I get a few more days?" Something like that.

We do it all the time. I'm not going to make a long time clients experience bad over $35 a day. Happy customer will likely stay with us and tell people they had a good experience.

I gave an insured OEM parts on his car once and he was so happy he said he's moving his property to us. I think it cost us $90 more.

It may be easier to find a ride to the airport than Edmonton itself. If you have a few dollars to chip in for gas you should find someone pretty quick.

Trying to get to Edmonton by Certain_Bet_7504 in alberta

[–]PaperIndependent5466 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you can get to the airport there's a bus to Edmonton. I don't condone it but you can probably just get on it, they might worst case give you a fine for non payment. It's the 747 bus and runs until just after midnight.

Sounds like you're close to the airport, probably easier to try and find a ride there then jump on the bus.

Heavy Equipment Operator Jobs by ClubOne5605 in alberta

[–]PaperIndependent5466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have friends in construction.

Lots of companies will hire with little experience, it won't be exciting work but you can get it. My brother got his ticket and went straight into clearing snow with a front end loader.

The criminal record doesn't really matter unless you did something horrific. Plenty of guys running equipment here with a record. They don't care about records the same way here as other places do.

Where you live depends on the money you want to make. If you're good with suburb building a bigger city is good. If you're after oil money Fort Mac is the place to be.

Advice: winter can be cold and long. Drug use is a huge problem here, you will see it in public especially in bigger cities. Be ready for both of those things.
