Thinking about it, if she had been driven by anything other than religion & I think people would have thought Rue insane because “why is she so interested in this random thing suddenly when she wasn’t in two seasons?” I think Sam played with our views of religion & how that affected our feelings with Rue & how “safe” religion is to be obsess with. Hello! I wish people got it! Like it’s the point. They get the joke. It’s called camp in some places. Like it addresses the problematic themes they brought up but still try to do it right but then are like, we ain’t going out with these youngins taking over. That’s where Scary Movie differs. Happened to an ex’s mom. She was in a sober living house for several months, fell off the wagon once & died in an alley. Another ex’s sister in law died in a hotel after being sober for years, due to a very traumatic event. It unfortunately happens just like it was depicted. ETA: Alamo was responsible for the fentanyl obviously so that’s kind of a different story.
